      @Tinuviel

      I generally don't tbh. I only know if they put it in their poses. After almost 15 years of rping it hasn't tripped me up in the actual flow of rp, though I have totally had those moments of 'oh wow, he/she/they are tall/small" but it hasn't ever broken any of my scenes as far as I'm aware. If it is something that my character absolutely would have to know they generally put it in their entrance pose. HT had the ppl command that gave a brief listing of attributes and I generally relied on that.

      Now that I think about it, other than the absolute basics (hair/eye color/height) I couldn't tell you the specifics of my Arx characters descs either, since I didn't write them.

      I stand ready for any and all derision.

        What kind of PBs are bypass nopes, cliche ones like Jason Mamoa or porn star ones or what?

        It's hard to say. In some cases it's like @Tinuviel says, and has to do with celebrities who have been rather terrible people of late. Sometimes it can also just be a character they've played that has skeeved me out forever which just means they were doing their job and are probably great people but nope. Often it's just... okay, brain!

        The thing I've noticed with porn stars is the choice of pictures. When you pick a PB and slap some pictures onto a page, there's a whole range of pictures you can choose. It's not just about raw physical looks, I feel like it's also about style, and sometimes the choices just make no sense to me, unless I get the feeling it's a deliberate take on the character and not just "here are some hot pictures". If it makes sense for the character, then that's totally fine. But that's not about the PB, that's about the player.

          Alright, I'll get this thread back to its disgusting track by asking all the wrong questions!

          Does the played-by (either your character's or someone else's) matter to you when it comes to TS at all? Does it influence how you play your PC or which characters they pursue or uh, how?

          Obviously it will influence some things, and leave other things behind. Depending on how true-to-PB the @descs are, this may affect genitalia, used of descriptors (the tattooed hand pinches the pierced nipple... the pale-skinned hand rakes through the blonde hair), and even potentially pronouns.

            Honestly I really do not care about PBs. I do not obsessively check people's wiki pages because i am old. (Unless theres a soundtrack section which in that case i look at everyone's). I am almost afraid to look because there have been times that, much like a movie made out of a book, that casting choice was such a mismatch for my mind's eye perception of that PC that it was a huge distraction. I tend to view PBs as approximations not exact. Actors can be made up to look very different from movie to movie. So it doesn't bug me to see modern photos in a medieval setting.

              It's not derision so much as it is... disbelief. And a small feeling of insult. Disbelief at the idea that you manage to roleplay without using the visual core of your imagination. And insult at the idea that I wrote this damned thing, I want it read.

                I will have to pay more attention when I have chances to scene but to be honest most places that I've played the last few years have many people incorporating descriptions of their PCs and clothing these days to the point I'm not real sure you need to even look at them.

                  @mietze That mostly started because people weren't reading them to begin with, and then reacting to the character... 'incorrectly.'

                    @Tinuviel I have had to pose the ROOM description at people before. Not every public place has a bar people. I swear its pavalovian. New room? XXXxXXx walks to the bar...

                      @Wretched Ugh, right?

                      I mean I get the whole 'posing the outfit' thing. That makes sense, people wear different clothes day-to-day. But c'mon. I had to write an @desc, it isn't hard to read the damned thing.

                      If you "don't have to" read it, then I shouldn't have to write the bloody thing.

                        I know, and I do feel bad about that.

                        I really am bad at visualizing any descriptions. My favorite authors are the ones that spend little time describing the setting and just get on with it. Most times even if I do read a description I'll just pick out the important details and move on. I can very rarely play with people who write in purple prose because I can't figure out what the hell they are trying to say in all the fluff.

                        (I also skip pages in books if it looks like it is going to spend a lot of time on visual detail. If I skip to a point and realize that I've missed something I'll go back.)

                        Relating this back to TS... other than the conflict it has with my very conservative views of what constitutes porn, sitting and reading pages that describe what two people are doing to one another is a bit meh.

                          I would be okay with that. X.x writing the description to get out of chargen is the worst. It doesn't help I've been mocked for how bad mine are. Playful mockery from my friends so I forgive them but...

                            @Tinuviel or people saw other people doing it and followed suit. Bevause honestly, half the time I see people doing that people still dont respond to the pose correctly and that goes triple for scene sets (and room descs).

                                Just steal one from the Bad Desc thread, and you're golden.

                                Preferably the Dick Cow @desc.

                                I HAVE a go-do desc that is 'This hoopy froodette who knows where her towel is is dressed appropriately for the situation!', and it /usually/ passes muster, but not always. A big factor in why I stopped playing that one game was 'if your @desc does not include this equipment, you do not have it for this fight' Okay. Please change the desc on the item so it matches? 'No.' Picked up a gun that's not your normal loadout but didn't upgrade the desc, so now I can't go dakka with it? Fuck off, staffer.

                                Back to the real questions. When is the orgy scheduled to start?

                                  I used to try to Rp with people using Alt-Girls under the mistaken assumption that the people playing them were familiar with the goth scene... I was wrong, they were just basic bland babes with colored hair and piercings listening to Nickelback and Coldplay.

                                    Is a PB ever a dealbreaker because you don't like the model person? For example would you be okay with TS with a nice character who's using an abusing asshole for their looks?

                                      Absolutely. It's not a dealbreaker in terms of an IC relationship, but I'm not going to start bumping uglies in full and glorious prose. That said, if the 'not liking' goes beyond personal preference and into "that person literally abused puppies (and/or other things. You know what I'm talking about) then I'm probably just going to avoid dealing with the player altogether.

                                        I personally don't draw parallels between who the PB is and who the character is. I don't expect people that use Hugh Jackman to be Wolverine nor Australian for example

                                          Kind of.

                                          I can usually pick out how well I will RP with a person based on their wiki. Part of the decision-making includes seeing which PB they took. It's not so much of an evaluation of my personal attraction to them.

                                          As for my own PB, if it doesn't match how I see my PC then things are just not going to work out for me no matter what I do.

                                            Okay, so while we're still on the topic of IC appearances in general (whether based on a specific PB or otherwise), if you're about to create new character(s) with another player - in other words they're kind of destined to be in a romantic/sexual relationship (*) - do you ask or provide input as to their looks?

                                            (*) While we're at it, would you say you usually create characters more or less knowing in advance who their partner's player will be, or do you wing it once they hit the grid purely based on their RP?
