I want to play the new Spider-Man game because Miles is the second-best Spider-Man ever (Gwen is the best), but my connection is so shit I have thirty hours of download time left. Fuck off, Playstation.

So. SWTOR. I love this game. I even subscribed. I've played all 8 "classes", finishing all their individual stories and am now going through the expansions with one of them. Gotta say though, I absolutely hated KotFE and KotET.

My favorite class is the Sith Inquisitor followed by the Sith Warrior. I played each twice and they're both better when you do them Light side. While Light choices tend to be Uber Boy Scout-ish (as are the Jedi) and the Dark choices tend to be psychotic serial killer-ish, the Light choices set in the Dark framework make the characters more nuanced. You can end up with a character who's completely loyal to the Empire but feels that it's run by insane sociopaths and needs to change. (Though there's something to be said for just playing a psychotic serial killer now and then.)

Also, even after all these years, they're constantly updating it and adding new content. If you've never tried it, I really recommend it. 5 stars.

It is really hard to speak to without spoilering anything, but the thing that (the two recently returned companions, they came together) are all upset about from the last content update we got. That's the dungeon we get this time I am pretty sure.

@Sunny Ah. I haven't played past KotET yet. I disliked those 2 so much it put a bad taste in my mouth and I stopped with the expansions for the time being. I should continue I suppose.

I haven't played SWTOR in many years but if I remember correctly the reason I stopped was there wasn't enough content to do at max level. Granted this was in the game's first post-launch year so it was only to be expected.

But has this been addressed? I'm referring to stuff like raids, small groups content, even general grinding like WoW's dailies.

Also what I do recall was that the bosses were sort of unrefined - most of the fights were tank-and-spank for instance. Have they added more nuance to gameplay?

It's never going to compare to WoW for endgame. Not even remotely. There is no safety dance, and I doubt there will ever be anything on that level, because it's not that sort of game. There ARE dailies on eleventy billion planets, endgame (and less than endgame) raids, rep grinds, and now there's conquest (weekly goals for loot and points for your guild to get more loot). Also, 'master' difficulty on the chapter -based expansions. It's still primarily single-player story-focused content that has opportunities in places for you to play with other people. If you're looking for That MMO Endgame Experience though, WoW's new expansion is probably the better bet.

@Arkandel So yes, there's plenty to do at max level which is now 75 (I think it used to be 50 or 55?). I'm doing the expansions at max level since one of my personal goals was to get every class up to 75. They've also added new quests on all the planets. If you finish the planet's main story, it opens up additional quests.

Oh yeah, I'm primed for Shadowlands with my guild. I was just curious about SWTOR since the Mandalorian has gotten me all itchy for Star Wars. 🙂

I feel you. Even when I really liked expansions and patches I could never play MMORPGs for long without a guild I liked. The social aspect of it, wiping and doing 5-mans with guildies is what keeps my interest. Playing with randoms even when it happens to be successful just leads me to burnout sooner or later.

If you have alts on Area52 I can hook you up. We're a heroic guild (AotC) more than mythic with one raiding night and mythic+ groups throughout the week.

It's honestly way better approached as a single-player game with occasional multi-player content (not mmo content) and a social background. Play it long enough to catch up on the story, then wait for the next bit of story. Their business model is built around players doing that (just like FFXIV), so it doesn't hurt them any. The Bounty Hunter is one of the weaker class stories, but it's one of the strongest going through the xpacs, with several chapters in places that get extra bits of story relevance and things.

@Arkandel While I pretty much do exactly as @Sunny said and play solo, I'm also a member of a very active guild. They do regular raids, operations, hunts, etc. When I was leveling one of my guys, I twice won a prize from the guild bank for highest weekly conquest points (3rd and 5th places) and there are regular mailings of upcoming stuff.

When I was looking for a guild originally and asked for an invite in response to an on channel recruitment emit, I was quizzed about my RP intentions and whether I was planning to be active in the guild (they were specifically an RP heavy guild). I honestly don't see how anyone can RP in that tiny window but hey, more power to them.

So the guilds can be very active if that's what floats your boat.

@TNP I loved it when it came out, but that was 2008. It's nearly 13 years old and they still demand $15 a month to play the whole game. I just can't rationalize that.

@BetterNow It's now free to play from start to finish. There's not all the options that subscribers have but those are mostly cosmetic such as choice of race which doesn't affect game play. There's also the preferred option which is what you are permanently once you've spent any amount of money, even a buck. Preferred gets more options than free.
