So I don't think a lone Mage 2E game was really going to be a hit. The plot mutated into something along the lines of Contagion Chronicles (realities colliding oh noes!), so I'm wondering this:

Would people be open to a Contagion Chronicles game where there's the Sworn and the False as playable factions? If so, other than mage, what would be the easiest splats to implement with (vampire, demon, changeling, werewolf, beast, and potentially deviant are the choices), and would anyone be willing to help out?

If so, just drop me a line. Thanks!

In before someone else goes 'in before Jennkryst asks for Mummy'... and also surprising everyone by suggesting Werewolf instead of Mummy, but under the condition that other shifters exist! BUT TO BE DIFFICULT, add on how they should also use gifts, not aspects or numina or favors.

@jennkryst Just a reminder, this is 2E. So is there even other shifters in 2E?

There are the Changing Breeds. They are a bit different, but they are there or could be easily adapted.

            What are the Contagion Chronicles?

Changing Breeds haven't been ported to 2E yet, at least as far as I'm aware. There may be some homebrew content on the Onyx Path forums though.

@ganymede Contagion Chronicles is multi-splat settings for the Chronicles of Darkness.

                The premise is as follows:
Different realities interact with one another. When that happens, a contagion starts to happen changing the rules (of the game or the just fundamental physics of the world) in ways that the characters have to figure out wtf is going on. There are two factions: The Sworn (people against the Contagion) and the False (people who are for the Contagion). They all have their own reasons for working together in these factions made of different splats.

I think it's an interesting premise for a multisplat game where there's no real antagonist or protagonist from a good/bad point of view. It's just a matter of is that contagion in this reality good or bad for your group in general?

Does that make sense? I hope I didn't ramble too much.

It’s interesting, but the task of world-building seems Herculean.

@ganymede The world is already built, just gotta tell the stories. In other words, I just gotta break the rules and make crazy shit happen for people to react to. The Contagion Chronicles book establishes all the world building in terms of the factions, etc

In my opinion a lone Mage 2E game has a much better chance of working than a mixed-sphere one.

The reason for that is Mages tend to outshine other splats, and their thematic affairs tend to take over everyone else's, but you can make a robust setting based on just them.

Would that be a 'hit' ? I don't know what your definition of the term is in this context so I can't tell. But it can absolutely be fun, I think.

I liked the premise o the Golden Road, but in the back of my mind I recall there was something that put me off...did you make some kind of change to the towers, or add another, or something like that?

@pacha Ahhh yes, the appearance of the five new towers.

The original metaplot of Golden Road was always Contagion-esque. The new towers come from another reality colliding with ours which is what led to their appearance. They're the towers of a different reality so magic was borking up.

I always planned on going in the Contagion Chronicles direction so more contagion/plagues that start breaking the world will continue to happen as per plot. The characters will either want to fix it (The Sworn) or make them happen more (The False).

The main school was a secret HQ for the Sworn. The faculty members were of different factions and basically trying to get students to stop the Contagion, etc, etc.

Now the cat's out of the bag, that's the premise of the plot. Sorry for burying the lede.

All of this sounds great to me. I think the addition of an official sourcebook will help people buy into the changes in the world. Sometimes people are wary of things head staffers change all on their own due to past incidents of that never working out well in the end.

I'm not sure why a standalone mage game doesn't/wouldn't work but crossover games seem to be people's favorites. I would have that that mages only would have worked out well in their own game. So that's going to open up more options for everyone.

And lastly, probably most importantly, this sounds like something different in something familiar. Many people are comfortable with the setting, but there's both new and different in this new chronicle so it isn't likely to be just yet another iteration of the same old thing. In that vein, I would suggest you encourage people to create brand new characters, not rehash old ones from old games.

New game, new characters, hopefully new outcome.

@warma-sheen So should I just keep it mage only for now and just add the Contagion book as another source book? Or should I introduce another splat?

I would strongly vote Mage-only. While 2E does very much level the playing field for the other supernaturals I think it would take more hand-holding than it is worth to get folks on the same page after 1E.

I would personally not include new towers, although I know a sixth watchtower was a story element at least once, just because they ultimately cannot truly be interacted with before archmastery if they are legit towers from another reality. You just get extra flavors of mage.

If you wanted to shake things up a bit, create a few local Nameless Orders with some real power.

Normally I would concur, but the blurb for the sourcebook expressly suggests that it was created for the purpose of multi-splat parties.

I vote Sin Eaters. The new stuff looks pretty cool. Though, I am bias in favor of Sin Eaters since they are one of the 2 things in WoD that I really like.

@icanbeyourmuse If we're adding more splats, I'm looking for voluneers to help storytell those splats. I know NOTHING about those other splats and how to incorporate those themes in a greater Contagion Chronicle.

                                        Any volunteers?

I would agree here. The fun of the sourcebook seems to be focused on different supers. Plus, people just like having different options. It wouldn't have been what I thought, but that seems to be what people like.

And since you have a sourcebook that takes the 'superfriends' concepts that is often a joke for people and gives it a full on developer thumbs up, you might as well play to it fully.
