Battletech Tabletops and Mechwarrior Online?
-
Anyone play it? Thought about looking into it and getting into it but unfortunately, no one plays it around here and with the toddler it is increasingly harder to host tabletops here at my home (last thing I need is Little Girl Amin taking the dropships off the board and yelling, "ball! ball!)
Also, anyone try Mechwarrior Online? I don't like MMORPGs that much but I do like strategic combat play with a team.

Mechwarrior Online is /NOT/ remotely battletech. It is a FPS sim that uses giant robots of the same name and vague description but it is /nothing/ like BattleTech tabletop or even MechWarrior RPG.
It's essentially shoot em up robots.
That's it.
It can be fun I guess, but it takes a lot of time to build up enough money to get solid mechs skilled up and built. You're going to suffer without a unit to play with, and the community warfare is a joke. (Way to many fronts where people can bounce from planet to planet way to easy)
The Clans are getting their asses kicked back to their homeworlds and mech's have all these 'quirks' that Inner Sphere mechs are as strong as Clan mechs are.
Oh, pin point accuracy.
It's not BattleTech, it's an FPS with a thin coating of BattleMechs'.
-
So I take it you don't like it?
-
@BigDaddyAmin I've played the hell out of it since closed beta, and spent hundreds of dollars on it.
It's a fun game sometimes but it's not BattleTech. Just go into it with your eyes open.
-
Well I have never played Battletech either. Just the Mechwarrior FPS from the late nineties early 2000s.
The Community Warfare thing looked cool but honestly, maybe a tabletop community might be better.
-
You might check out Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries if you want something a little more mechwarrior-ish. You hire pilots, build your mechs, consider salvage, pick contracts, and so on.
-
Mechwarrior 4 was a hell of a game. A lot closer to TT than MWO is. The sad thing is that in closed beta the game was really a lot better then they bowed to the CounterStrike CryBabies and got rid of weapon convergence.
EDIT: 'They' being Pirannha games who made MWO not MW4.

It is why I quit playing MWO. But Mechwarrior 4 is great. There's a mod that adds a whole slew of mechs, a few new mechs, and a bunch of new pilots. Also weapons. Lots of neat weapons.

I'm going to second MechWarrior 4: Mercs. It's a pretty good game which requires a brain or two. I also liked the Mech Commander series, but it wasn't as popular.

I... I only have the one, and it's not in very good condition at that.

@Big-Daddy-Amin
Thinking about it, Harebrained Schemes will be releasing a new Battletech/Mechwarrior focused game this year too. You could just wait.
-
@Jaded That is true, I kickstarted that. Reminds me I have to replay Hong Kong and go through the new 'content' they released for it.
-
-
@Jaded I wanted to get the jacket, but, I ended up being tight on money when it ended and had to reduce my pledge.
-
-
Well, I must say after downloading Mechwarrior Online and playing it....eh. If only there was a gaming community nearby where I could learn Battletech. I have been watching played-bys on YouTube of MegaMek and it is cool.
-
Thanks, Jaded. I like the look of this new battletech game. House Davion FTW.

No problem. I used to use Megamek a lot when I did forum RP in the Fan Councils. Don't do Fan Councils. Ahem.
I will admit the new game would be one of my must purchase titles of the year if I wasn't already going to receive it for my pledge.
-
@Jaded I love how it's a reboot back to 3025 and will likely /never/ have Clan invasion.
