How To Mu*
-
There's a pretty steep learning curve coming into the hobby of MUing. Getting over that initial hurdle requires some hand holding. In an effort to make that a little easier, @Caryatid has made a new player guide! I've seen similar on different MUs, but I feel that this one is pretty good, and pretty thorough. Note that it's meant to be a general guide, and you might want to edit it with your own relevant information. We've adapted it and put it up on BITN's page.
With @Caryatid's permission (who is just too dang shy to post on her own), I am sharing her work. You are free to use and adapt this guide to your own MU, just please be sure to credit "Caryatid@MSB".

I just expect Caryatid to stand there, watching by the entryway. Someday she might take a quarter step forward with one foot.

I might just suggest dropping in a link to Atlantis for any newcomers on Macs.

Ah! I did that on mine, forgot to update the g-doc. Good catch, Roz.

This is niceee. There was a guide on a MU* I was on, but this is useful because it's not based around a specific MU*'s theme.
-
I go by the advice that people on Dark Souls tell me all the time.
get gud
(this is a joke)

Well, I'll be saving THAT picture to use on people after LoL matches.
-
Just a little reminder that this exists. I had someone ask today about advice for a brand new player. This is a great place to cover some of the most basic elements of MUing.
Also, if anyone has anything to add to it, or whatever else, just lemme know!

@skew Holy crap, that's powerful necromancy.
It's for a good cause, people, chip in!

Add some clients for Linux, even command line ones for power-users who like that choice (ergo tinyfugue).
You may also want to cover colors that mushes tend to use.
Whlie some of them stick to the basic 16 colors, some do use (and ask for you to be able to handle) 256 colors.
Some of the older clients never got around to adding support for 256 (XTERM) colors.
I'd also cover the fact that just like facebook, twitter, and internet blogs, on mushes there will likely be an international presence with people from all around the world, so to keep that in mind when communicating.
A lot of the poo-fling fests I've found on mushes tended to start by miscommunication or a lack of background on something that may have initially been considered a joke or was said with understanding that only a local national (to the one talking) would be able to comprehend.
I'd also ask for this to be sticky. Great document.

@ashen-shugar Can you suggest some Linux clients?
-
@skew Potato, tinyfugue, tintin++, Mudlet.
-
One could probably run SimpleMU or MushClient with Wine, too.

kmud is pretty good, it's my go-to when I play from a Linux system.
Does anyone know any good command-line clients other than tf? I'll get lynched for saying this, but I don't like tf.

I tried SimpleMU on Wine when I attempted Linux years ago and it functioned backwards? Sort of. Like, for example, spawns would open backwards. It also looked weird. XD

@coin SimpleMU works under wine but it's just slow sometimes even on pretty high-end desktops.
