Bit of a necro, but: having a big upcoming plot on your game -- the all-hands-on-deck kind of plot -- and being so freaking excited about it and watching the whole game get so stoked for it.

      aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Putting in a shit ton of time and work on a plot and watching players get super excited about it and run with every little detail you throw at them.

            Typos.

You paged Somebody with 'Sure, sounds good 🙂 Feel like hitting the dicks?'.
You paged Somebody with 'DOCKS. OMG DOCKS'.

"Excuse the hell out of you. He's a bag of dicks. I'm a carefully curated box of cocks." -- to @GirlCalledBlu upon being misrepresented.

I'm finding I like seeing people get excited about roster characters I make (or help to make) almost as much as I like playing the awesome characters myself.

Putting a lot of thought into coming up with a suitable challenge for a character and seeming to actually manage to please everyone involved(!).

I love the process of making a new character. >.> I love making wiki pages. I love choosing music, and played bys, and fiddling, and yes. That. All of it.

You know, I like making a new character from scratch on a game I'm excited about and even PBs (and conversations leading up to picking one) can be fun, I've even even been known to hunt through my notes and the googlez for appropriate book quotes that fit the concept... but music? I can't find and wouldn't even know how to start looking for a soundtrack if I tried.

Sometimes a particular song is part of the inspiration for a concept, which helps.

I'll confess to being lazy enough to just open up my iTunes library and scroll through it looking for things that would fit with the concept I'm working on. Once I have that list noted down somewhere, I'll start googling for "songs about <character element>" or "<emotional state> songs" or whatever, and scroll through some clickbait lists to see if anything there catches my eye. And sometimes if I don't have enough ideas after using those methods, I'll try using iTunes "Genius" feature to fill out my candidates with songs like some of the ones I already like.

Sometimes none of these things work. And then I'll sort of backburner the whole soundtrack thing until some play happens and I get a better grasp of the character.

I generally have two things that put me in the mood to write/working on a character. One) A played by, Two) music. When it comes to just writing, it's usually music that does it for me. I have a really hard time working on my non-RP writing without music. I also somewhat have a hard time RPing with music, but not as bad.

Writing and music is pretty linked for me.

That moment when a character clicks in a scene and both dialogue and prose fits. It may be a quip, a pose, a look to someone else, but the moment when you realize you are typing for minutes on autopilot and it is all perfectly in character and it is all something you are very proud of.

I share the music thing, but when I am making a character I usually have the whole character fleshed out in my head before I even begin writing so I go from start to done for a character amazingly fast, full desc written etc, and then hunt for a reasonable played by for hours on end...

I hate played by's anymore, write a description that tells me what they look like so I can imagine it, thanks.

A lot of people are reminding me lately why MUs can be an amazing medium. I think the reason so many people burn out, become cynical and get jaded in the MU format is just how much effort someone can really invest in creative writing when they get excited about it, and then feel like all their effort is dismissed or taken advantage of. People get burned like that, and hesitate to ever do it again, and who can blame them?

But man, running a new game and having complete strangers decide to take a chance and just pour their hearts into it, seeing all the work they invest and the amount of fun they have, it's hard to think of a more fulfilling medium. You guys are goddamned incredible sometimes.

some fucking idiot who people only like because he's good at taking credit for the work of everyone under him, just like every other fucking L&L headwiz.

Players who rp antagonistic characters that are still able to integrate into mostly cooperative storytelling effort while staying true to their characters' motivations, as well as being OOC really, really chill.

I just amused myself for about 15 minutes by plotting out how I'd use FS3 for a Pern game.

And I had giggles over the vehicle code being 'dragons' instead.

I'm sure everyone has the experience of a really awesome player disappearing off a game and going, "Aw no, they were super cool, I hope they'll be back." They don't come back.

But randomly running into them on a totally different game years later...is super awesome.

This thread doesn't get enough love. We're all so negative, guys.

But my MU Things I Love tonight are those once in a blue moon first RP meetings that turn into delightful extended scenes and pretty much lock in an ongoing connection to explore.
