Lifepath modules can make a stronger character than normally using priority or point buy, when coding chargen however they an be a minor pain in the ass.
I say this because I have coded lifepath chargen before.
The annoying part is the knowledge skills it gives, the best way I found to do it was to just make a general knowledge skill and language skill pool and let the PC spend those as they wished at the end.
That said, it makes for a more well rounded character overall using the lifepath modules which is I think a good thing.
As for non-north american characters, yeah you have to invent some modules for other countries but it's not that bad imho.

What language are you building/framework/whatever this on? I know someone had been building it in Python/Evennia a year or so ago. I might even have portions of his code on a hdd and have his contact if needed.

Holy crap guys, in under a week we have actually started making some level of progress towards this thing. Still looking for anyone willing to put in assistance, though!
-
@tragedyjones I know at least one voluntold someone who can help with data entry, once the code is there and stuffs.
-
I want to play Shadowrun.
I want to play a version of Shadowrun that doesn't require you to calculate wind-direction in order to determine whether or not your shotgun geeks someone. Please make a shadowrun game that uses a system created after 1999.
THX.

Will 2013 work? Best I can do!

New issue discovered, re: linear karma.
When attributes become easy to raise, purchasing 'ware or adept powers to do so becomes inefficient.
-
Issue resolved, there is a max natural rating that can only be exceeded by Augmentation. Give in. Go chrome.

I'm willing to put in assistance where I can. I come from mostly a Python programming background, but can fumble around other codebases.
Failing that, I can fill in where needed for building/descing/pestering you all to get this up and going/providing pictures of pizza and beer.
-
Development continues. Work has begun on the wiki. Grid design will begin in earnest this week I hope.
Current project: Create guidelines for joining IC organizations for non-Shadowrunner PCs.
-
I have to ask, can we play as AI? Every time I see a shadowrun game it seems people shy away from letting anyone play those somewhat more out there concepts like monads and AI's.
-
5e lacks rules for being free spriits, so no there.
AIs cannot be built using the lifepath system, so also no. Pooooooop.
-
What I don't know I can pick up in a hurry for Rhost. What do you need?
-
A time machine to stop the release of Civilization and Final Fantasy XV. I think are the two major speed bumps. Also, FIGHT THE MAN and their choice to go 2:1 time.
-
While I have literally zero computer programming expertise nor experience, I am happy to lend whatever creative writing is needed to help expand or flesh out the world(s). Just shoot me a message.
-
@tragedyjones I've written these for Shadowrun:Denver (never got approved) but definitely some thoughtful bullet points and a way to make it risk vs reward (as alts). I also have a law enforcement background, for what it's worth.

I've tried to start a SR 5E MUSH. Written in the Evennia code. I've killed the project because I can't find an expert who knows Python to act as Head Code Wiz.
However, you can connect to it currently, but only a few things I've developed are actually view-able by login. And mostly I just use it as an experimental resource to play with Python and Evennia.
You can connect to Deep Shadows MUSH Here or by deepshadowsmush.com:6250

Presuming that I can get the code from a soirce, I am looking to leave the CofD behind me for a while and work on a Shadowrun 5 game. However, my usual suspects don't really know SR and so I am looking for some people interested in possibly helping out.
Instead of the old MUSH code type deal, would you be interested in looking to Evennia?
I tried a year or so to try and get something started, but finding a Python programmer to work on Evennia has been troublesome.

@Tirit I was literally about to email you just now because I've been staring at your old project and wondering if you'd want to try and kick it off. I figured I would check back on here to see what's up and what the hell do you know, you put it back up! I'll pop in on there shortly.
