Greetings and Salutations

Echoing the thanks for putting this together. For better or worse, WORA was the only MU*-focused discussion board that really existed, and it'd be a shame to lose it for community's sake.
I do hope the old board is eventually recovered as an archive at least, like SWOFA exists now. I still occasionally direct my fellow players to old threads, just for the record-keeping of it all.

I'm with Darinelle. And I was wanting to respond to a missing peeps/lost stuff forums. And maybe find an old buddy.
-
@silentsophia We can't do anything about the missing stuff, unfortunately, but we've got the Shout in the Dark category if you want to put out a call.
-
No, I'm Sparticus!
What Happened to WORA: It's around, somewhere, on a server we're still trying to reach. The site host went incommunicado for a long period of time and has since resurfaced. This puts our chances of recovering the information much better than it did several weeks ago.
Peverel has not been involved in WORA for quite some time, and I doubt he cares whether or not someone else makes a clone. WORA technically belongs to Lolth, but I doubt she cares if there a hundred WORAs out there.
I don't. When I overheard @Glitch and @EmmahSue mention "The Soapbox" as a name, it hit the right note.
WORA is vitrol, anger, sputum, like angry sex, so having a place, a more constructive kind of place without WORA's history of bang-on vile accuracies and just banging on would be a good idea. I approve.
-
I am so very very glad someone stepped up to do this. WORA had a number of very constructive areas, and every time I'd brought up alternatives, far too many people seemed to have forgotten that.
Very eagerly awaying dark color themes (it burnss our eyes, preciousss), but it looks good otherwise.
-
Thank you to EmmahSue, et al, for putting something back up.
-
Thank you, indeed. I've been missing WORA recently, I will admit.
-
I needed this thing to communicate my rage and such.
-
Just saying:
We need a dark theme.
You can't rage against the machine without a dark background and keep a straight face.
Please? ITS SO BRIGHT.

@ixokai There have been several requests for this, or at least mentions that the brightness is too strong. The next version of this forum software is supposed to come with a new theme that is gentler on eyes sensitive to the whites.
Also, if any of you are designer types, I'd certainly be willing to do some overrides to lessen the glare. Only thing really holding that back is that there is not an option for individual themes, everyone has to share, so it can't be pure WoD black or something either.
-
I atually prefer this brighter format.

Out of curiosity, how come you picked this forum platform instead of one of the other usual suspects (phpBB, SMF, etc) ?

Simple answer: I'm attracted to shiny things.
More informative answer: I very much like the use of websockets for realtime notifications, chats, etc. The plugin system is also pretty robust with simple events for some of the easier stuff and then straight exposure to core through a module.parent without modifying existing core. Lastly, I'm tired of php.

Thank you thank you thank you.
PHP is the DEVIL.

@Glitch By "designer types" do you mean someone to write the code for the changes? Or someone to help with color-change suggestions? I could probably help come up with better color theme, but can't code it.
-
@Cobaltasaurus I meant more graphic/web designer types, or a good amateur. There wouldn't be any coding involved, just CSS.
-
@Glitch - I could TOTALLY do that.
aaaahahahahahahahahahaha.
I couldn't even finish typing that with a straight face.

If you can give me existing css (e.g. if there is existing css for the site), I could potentially do it. If I have the css to edit I'm capable, but I'm not able to make it from scratch.

Yay!
The biggest problem with WORA going down (PS: it might not be fully lost; we're still sending field agents to check, since the server host whoosit wasn't/isn't actually with anyone we know) is that it's so tough to let folks know about updates.
