Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning

I mean, the idea of @rs is to encourage RP, but why would we be so granular as to track who you RP with and who you RP with "a lot" (what does that even mean?) and then force it? It's called @randomscene for a reason, yo.
I do wish I could swap between alts though. Nothing's more awk than Leona's BFF getting a @rs on the Fractal I play. >.>
-
@Darinelle -- other way around! I'm advocating for less well-known-to-me people popping up on the @rs. It's just funny to me, because so far -- two weeks out of three as far as @rs turnover -- I've gotten a couple of people that I was just RPing with and/or would RP with anyway, so there's been less "randomness" to that than there would be if I got totally obscure-to-me people. Definitely a luck of the draw thing, though.
-
@fortydeuce Oh, I meant "force it to not be those people."
I'll be honest - I very rarely get people I know well and RP with regularly on any alt, and when I do it's inevitably the one least likely to have any reason to reach out to them at all. I think you've been exceptionally lucky/unlucky is all.
-
Lucky in one sense -- I like the well-known person (Thena, who was Derovai's Gala plus-one)! I like the A and B from the A, B, and C scene that popped up at cron -- but Thena's player and I were both like "okay, then; I guess that works, but yeaaah" when we saw the @rs!
ETA: And I wasn't saying track it all the time. Just maybe in the newbie period and for the cron where you drop off of @rs's newbie list, so you're sure of getting at least 9 contacts you don't already know? Obviously, I'm not hurting for contacts or anything, but it might be worth preventing on more cloistered concepts.
Because if I were to break down mine, it would run:
A,B,C = already played with A and B
D,E,F = E is related to PC I know.
G,H,I = G is IC acquaintance; H is in-org person.Which, if I were a shy person (I'm not! I'm not saying this was problematic for me, only doing the math on it) would tap out at only four people I'd have no reason besides @rs to look up. Hope that makes sense as an explanation as to why it caught my eye.
-
@fortydeuce It's not the worst idea, but it's also not an idea i find so compelling i'd pitch it as code ahead of combat revamp, exploration rooms, or the social system.
-
I had the same person, someone I already knew, pop up something like 3 times (I think) over a few weeks, but that can be amusing too. Just come up with increasingly unlikely ways of running into each other, have fun with it.
Trading it between alts might be helpful, as sometimes have a hard time coming up with a good reason to interact with someone, but that's on me.
-
@Kanye-Qwest Oh, sure. I tend to overthink code things just a little, and I'm not saying this should be priority #1 by any means! Just that the repetition caught my eye and I figured I'd toss it up as a point of interest. Like @Darinelle says, it's more likely my weird luck about it than anything else. But I could see a more cloistered concept or the like feeling a little "huh, okay then" if they got a draw like that.
-
@fortydeuce What! A revelation! Dude I've been in game since alpha and I haven't had a revelation (I don't think). That's awesome!
-
@sincerely Girrrrrrrl we gotta get you some clues.
-
I actually have no problem with who pops up, I like having a mix of well-known and unknown, because it reminds me to touch base with people.
However, I would love it if randomscene worked in pairs, like the way it did on Firan. So, like, if I have JoeSchmoe in my randomscene, JoeSchmoe also has me. That way we're both looking out for each other and it would make coordinating so much easier, especially for us who don't have a ton of time to commit to the game. -

I've been busy making things. The world could be falling down and Joscelin is just gonna be in her shop, making pretty things. Eff. The. World. Her interests are pretty much jewelry, gemstones, precious metals, the history of all three, and learning about the Grayhopes.

This is why you're one of my favorite people.

@sincerely I'm in the same boat. Have to admit, jealous of @fortydeuce!
-
Have we met? I don't know if we've met. Find me; meet me. I'm pretty public (OK, public to a fault.) Got a (semi-)private thing now and at 3 PM EST, but otherwise open today.

Just out of curiosity, anyone have the ascii art creator that was meandering around Firan for a while? Would it work on Arx?
-
@ortallus There's a coloring tool on the web and for Windows for the full array of 256 colors, but I haven't seen an ASCII art tool beyond a few "image to ASCII" websites. Or, well, there's a paid software for Mac that I've used, but I imagine that's not what you're looking for. But if the tool you're thinking of just uses %r or whatnot, it'd work.

Yeah, it used %r%t and (######) style ascii. It was great. Written specifically by a Firan player, for Firan. I wish I still had it, but I think I dumped it after Firan went down.
-
@ortallus I use the muse one that Talen made and @Roz shared, but it's also the one I used to learn all this stuff. I use an ASCII converter sometimes but mostly build from scratch, and a notepad to even out all the different letters and symbols the converter puts in. I've seen some art with the #s, I don't know if it's the tool from Firan you're talking about though.
-
Aha, you're right, I think it is the same one, after all! I guess I pasted in the ascii art after using another program, then colorized it, if I remember right.
I don't have a crafter yet, but I loved using it on Firan.
Thanks muchly!
-
@ortallus Yeah, sorry, I wouldn't call that an ASCII art creator, it's a coloring tool, so I didn't think it's what you wanted.
