This isn't just about SuperMan though, it's about the fact that there are limited plots.
When there are limited plots, there is a very high chance that there will be an FC involved who can just overwhelm the problem and the OC's have nothing to really shine while doing.
In a true open world where there was infinite plots and things going on all the time then yeah OC's might have a place alongside the FC's but...
That isn't fucking reality.
Anyone trying to claim that there are enough plots and scenes going around all the time that the FC's can't, and won't, be involved in is literally sticking their head in the sand and living in a dream world of their own creation.
@Coin got to play an OC with power on a scale of an FC being a Skrull Green Lantern, congratulations, you got to be the special snowflake.
He was pretty background, actually.
Most OC's don't get that chance or opportunity getting shut down and even when they are approved, they usually cannot meaningfully impact any scene that has FC's running around in it.
I don't know why this is so hard to understand, MU'ing is not a perfect environment. Every story does not get told. Things are not equal.... unless everyone /is/ given the same starting rules, and FC's are /built/ with the same rules as OC's.
But that doesn't seem to happen in my experience.
EDIT: And fuck you @Coin for saying I want my OC's to be as powerful as Superman. Way to try a bait and switch with an insult to go with it.
Hey, fuck you right back, maybe express yourself clearly so people don't misinterpret. Also, fuck you twice, because I pointed out that my interpretation wasn't necessarily what you meant, but that it's how you were coming off. My fucking bad for giving you the benfit of the doubt. Holy shit.

It really just kind of feels like you're saying "why bother if I can't make my OC as strong as Superman or Wonder Woman", which I personally think is an absolutely backwards way of approaching this discussion.
I'm not saying you mean to say that, but that's what it reads like.
I bolded it so you don't miss it this time. Jeez.
-
Comparing now to then, it's been my experience that OCs can do just as well as FCs in both importance, relevance and power than, say, 10 years ago.
tl;dr things change

I've been tempted to try a DC game focused on the Teen Titans or Young Justice where the character power level and focus is a bit more even.
Now this is a game I'd totally want to play!

-
People. Come play.
Do it.
-
I want to!
I'm just having a hard time figuring out a character >_>
-
Dammit stop posting about this game that sounds awesome that I don't have time or brain to play!
(No, really, I wish you guys uber success, this is a super fun idea.)
-
Come play vif uns, @Roz . Ve haff Kekse.
Says the guy who still can't decide whom to play.
-
Hows the ooc drama here?
-
I don't think we've been around long enough for OOC drama to rear its head. Give us a couple months.
-
Hmm I'm not big on superhero games, but I might check this one out.
-
In spite of the massive OOC drama in this thread, the game seems to have no OOC drama at all yet. Not that I usually get caught up in that stuff anyway, but the players are very active and open to engaging with new faces.
-
Well, we're still a bit on the small side. But the numbers are growing and things are picking up. I think we're all quite pleased at how it's coming along.
-
So. We have 59 approved characters. I'm going to guess this is about 30+ players based on unique IDs which consistently is about 60-70% of total logons.
We have 3 factions created: X-Men, SHIELD and the Hellfire Club. The grid is fairly typical Manhattan with a spread of socioeconomic businesses and places to live built ranging from poor to filthy rich.
Events so far have included a violent protest against police brutality and a fight between the Italian and Irish mobs.

I'm pretty sure it's just me, but I haven't been able to connect to the game for almost a week. Checked the wiki, still the same address I used when I first made a file for it in my Potato address book, but some reason I keep getting a connection time out.
Not sure what's up with it, but if there's something I need to do to be able to connect, let me know.
-
@Monogram Nothing has changed. The game's been up without any problems. Did you try doing a tracert and seeing where it hangs up? You should also try going through a proxy and seeing if that works.
-
I can try, but I could try mushclient and see if it's different from Potato. Though..the strange thing is it started doing this after I moved. Wonder if that has anything to do with it.
-
@Monogram Yeah nothing has changed, it hasn't even rebooted for for months, has had no DNS change or server change of any kind.
But just for the sake of trying, its IP address is 216.136.9.8 9630, does that do anything differently? And what exactly is the error you're getting? Connection Refused? Or Timed OUt?
-
IP address worked. Dunno what the difference is.
And I got a connection time out. Not refused. -
Strange. Sounds like the DNS resolution was failing. That's something we have no control over.
