Yeah, I think that you would like the Uncharted series and The Last of Us if you enjoyed Dishonored.
-
@Ganymede Nope, no Playstation and no controller. PC only.
-
Thimbleweed Park. Right in the nostalgia. Comfort food of games right now.
-
If you've had a desire to pick up the old D&D games like Torment or Baldur's Gate, they're deeply discounted right now along with a lot of DLC.
-
Since Last of Us 2 has been mentioned, I think it's strange that the sequel hasn't grabbed me quite like the first one did. And I don't really know why. I really enjoyed the first one.
It looks expertly made like the first one, certainly seems like it'd be just as griping and as compelling as the original, but for some reason I've been very 'meh' on it, and hardly been paying attention. And every time I do see new information about it, there's been no spark of interest.
It's been bothering me. Because for all intents and purposes, this is a game I should really like. Maybe my opinion will change once I get my hands on it.

I finally made the switch to a controller on my PC instead of mouse/keyboard, and I've found pretty much the only thing I can't do is mmo heal because the speed needed when something goes off the rails I just cannot do (particularly target switching). Is this just something that will come with practice, for those that use controllers, or is it actually harder to do?
ETA: Or worse, is it just a getting old thing?

For me it depends on the game I'm playing. Some games using a controller is better/more comfortable and for others, it's keyboard or bust.
One example is Destiny 2. I could never make the switch to controller. I know people who are great with a controller and could keep up with keyboard / mouse players, but I personally always felt so slowed down.

I've examined the design of the controller and seen how they're used and can only come to one conclusion: they're horrible for carpal tunnel. Holding them in that position, the heavy thumb usage, seems like they're bound to cause pain with extended use.
Can anyone confirm/deny that? Preferably someone with actual carpal tunnel issues and not someone without it who says it's perfectly comfortable.

For meeeeeeeee... I actually find switching it up helps.
I mean, mind you, if I'm using the controller 8 hours a day every single day? Yeah, I'm gonna have just as many issues.
But the fact that I've been (during quarantine, woo) moving away from the keyboard to use the controller for a couple hours a night instead? It's been giving my hands a break. Putting them into a new position that isn't my keyboard/mouse. I've actually had a bit less of the usual pain my right hand gets.I think the trick really is that 'mix it up.' If you spend most of your time on a keyboard (us MUers), that's what's gonna fuck you up. If you spend most of your time on a controller. If you spend most of your time with knitting needles........

@Sunny
Auspice had it right. It really depends on the game. Some games are best with KB/M. Some are better or easier to play with controllers.I determine usage based on if the game is a port or not. Some games are still best utilized for controller after porting, for example, Valkyria Chronicles was that way for me.
Others are still best with KB/M; like I'm playing Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord and that would just be terrible with a controller.
Sometimes using both to try out a game is also a good option, it lets you find what fits right for you based on how the game plays and how you play it, feels.

And it really can just be personal preference (tho I think that port advice is really really good as a guiding line).
I've been playing a lot of Deep Rock Galactic (SPACE DWAAAARVES) with some people and they all play KB/M while I prefer controller. I think it's actually wonderful to play with a controller, but they all think I'm a fucking weirdo for not using KB/M.

@Auspice Makes sense. Though I type almost all day at work and then type more at home and that doesn't bother me. Heavy mouse usage can but I'm leery about the amount of thumb movement required with a controller. That's isolating a very specific muscle and nerve. I suppose only trying it will prove anything.
-
Honestly, I prefer the controller and have never gotten carpal tunnel pains from it despite, what, 35+ years of gaming?
Except playing Street Fighter II, but those were thumb-pad calluses.

I think that if you're sensitive to that kind of thing, it's important to find a controller that fits your hand well because it greatly affects the tension and strain you'll feel in your fingers.

This.
I think a controller works because wrapping my hand around it (I use an XBone controller) kinda... eases? tension because in typing, my hands is more of that almost-claw shape, but holding a controller, my hand is opened up more. -
@Ganymede Slightly late to this, but I was really into the competitive online scene for Homeworld when the original released. I do not know if they have incorporated the same factors into the remake but in the original engine?
Vertical attacks did not just completely throw people for a loop mentally but ships also had differing levels of armour on difference facings. The front was heaviest, the back lightest, but the top and bottom had lighter armour than the sides. Additionally most of the capital ships were better at firing 'up' than down so swinging your fleet under that of the enemy could be really decisive.
Of course the original Homeworld's engine also let you rapidly issue formation and stance commands to fighters so that they would vibrate in place whilst constantly firing and throwing off enemy gunfire that tried to predict for their oscillating movement. That was generally considered a dick move but telling your fighter wings to shift between sphere and claw formation whilst maneuvering them behind enemy capital vessels could be utterly devastating and looked amazingly cool.
-
Everything is incorporated, as far as I know. It has been re-mastered too, so the graphics are boss.
Totally worth it.
-
Huh. The entire story of Last of Us 2 got leaked by a disgruntled employee in a payment dispute with Naughty Dog. And now, Naughty Dog is pushing the release date which had been on 'indefinite hold' to now June 19.

Things I really don't care about: leaked game plots.

I'm not sure I can name a game where my enjoyment of the game hinged on wanting to know how the plot played out (Although the ending of ME3 almost ruined the game for me). The enjoyment comes from the storytelling and gameplay.
