I have the steam controller and the xbox controller and I actually prefer the xbox controller a little bit, but I couldn't tell you why. I just tend to plug in the xbox controller more. It's probably inertia. If someone reorganized my living room I might do the opposite.

It's a lot of fun, but it becomes repetitive too fast.

So Battlefield 1 is pretty damned fun. Really love the desert map they are having people play in the beta right now. Definitely worth looking into if you like shooters.

So I started playing Witcher 3 and, yeah, it's pretty amazing. I'm not yet absolutely pulled into it, and the combat system is leaving me feeling like a noob. I was once pulled out of the amazement of an absolutely stunning sunrise, mist rising off the land, peeking through the trees ... to notice it was 3:30 am. This seems appropriate to the latitude, but man I was shocked right out of my socks.

Mostly it's the combat system that's kicking my newbie ass. I'm certainly one thousand percent more impressed than I was with Fallout 4, with about 4 hours of play-time. I've made a potion, had a dwarf make a leather jacket, killed a ghost with a long tongue, and gotten the sense of the various mechanics that make up the game tied into the storytelling.

Yeah, I'm impressed with the overall. I'll have to ease into the story, since so far it's fetch quest, learn more, fetch quest....

If you haven't yet, make sure that you finish the entire prologue at White Orchard. Do all the quests in it. You'll be glad you learned all the stuff you learn there later on.

As for the combat system, I do pretty well because I remember one basic rule: Quen protects you from anything. You want to really practice switching between your Signs so that you can flip back to Quen, activate the shield, and then flip back to whatever Sign is best against whatever you're fighting. The game tells you the weaknesses of your adversaries. Study everything, because the Oils are pretty important.

You'll learn to hate wraiths because fighting them is a pain in the ass. You either have to lure them into a Yrden trap, or hit them with one of the grenades that makes them targettable. Otherwise they're just intangible fuckers that can hurt you but not the other way around.

And learn to dodge against monsters and block against humans. I especially like to use the quick, short hop dodge instead of the roll, because I can better control the positioning.

And like I said last night: I would vastly suggest using a controller over the mouse and keyboard, but that's a preference you'll have to figure out for yourself.

Glad you like it, though. It's a great game. Just long. I should get back into it, honestly.

CK 2 is such a great game. I have so much fun scheming my way to the top and then inserting my dynasty everywhere else.

I can't even imagine playing without a controller.

@Thenomain, my tip would be to go light. Go with the Cat School. You may be a bit brittle, but dodging out of combat is your way to get safe and charge up your magic. And having Quen is a good shield when you have to wade into a pitched battle.

This is a game you can sink tons of time into. I think I plunged over 100 hours into it, over the course of 3 or 4 months. It's a completionist's game too: you will be rewarded for finishing all of the quests, and there is a lot to be found.

That the game is fucking beautiful accentuates it.

And to think: this was backed by Warner Bros. Imagine if they had put this much thought into, oh, Batman v. Superman.

                    @Ganymede & @Coin

I feel that I've made some of the wisest choices possible by accident: I've taken the general boost that gives you food bonuses for 20 minutes, and the general boost that sets one rune-power boost permanent when you boost it at one of those power stones. And yes, light-attack is my preferred, so I've been putting points in that attack form. Shield, Slash, Roll, Run.

The game is pretty adamant that you know how to focus on the monster information, and it's pretty clear that you really should be doing every side-quest. ('Suggested Level: 10'? I'm not even at the Suggested Level 5 that you think I should be at for being in this zone!)

It's a fun game. Glad I picked it up.

Yeeaaah. Cat School ftw, for me. The bleed bonuses are going to make you so, so, so, so, so happy.

Also, be sure to read the glossary. There are tidbits you need to know for every character throughout the various stories, especially if you want to taste some real sinister flavor.

Viper School was my jam for nuking large swaths of humans. (Bleed of Cat, Toxin of Viper? Yes please.)

                      Wolf is overall good.

You won't appreciate Bear making you untouchable until later, and by then you should be better at dodging than most Dark Souls players.

There is so much data provided to the game, I unfortunetly feel it was tailored for serious MOBA gamers and won't be picked up by others who just want a fun arena-game, like Smite (Fafnir is my dude. I will smelt you all.)

Been playing Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is pretty damn fun. They've improved greatly on the aspect of approaching every area from any particular route. More stealth options(because I'm a masochist and I love getting the Ghost bonus). Combat is still a little unforgiving, but I've always found that to be an aspect of Deus Ex, in that combat was always hard in those games.

Story is still pretty above par, and plenty of side missions to keep me interested. But a good game overall, well polished. And I feel like there's more room for exploration even if the areas seems small. Like, you don't HAVE to break into a highly secure bank that(so far)has no story based purpose, but I REALLY want the two Praxis points that allow me to buy and improve my augmentations.

I highly recommend it if you're into that cyberpunk thing.

EDIT: There was one thing I wanted to point out in the greater options for route-finding, is that usually I'd find a better route once I reached where I was trying to go and realized I hadn't explored thoroughly enough. Which is mildly infuriating and yet really cool because 'damn wish I seen that earlier would've made things so much easier' sort of feeling.

This may or may not change in the future.

Bioshock: The Collection comes out tomorrow, so if I disappear, that's why. Looks so pretty. And it was so pretty before. Actually glad to be sick for once.

Of course my laptop also arrives tomorrow possibly late according to the tracker. Boo!

I like higher difficulties, and the mixture of bleed+toxin is the closest thing you will get to Fire-and-Forget. Or Bleed+Freeze, which becomes worthless later but helpful early on.

I now own an X-Box 360 controller for my PC.

I played a little Bioshock with it tonight, which is a good example of the reason I got it. In general I prefer the mouse/keyboard but there are some games (shooters, especially) where I don't feel like I'm getting the best experience. It felt much more fluid with a controller, for me at least.
