I got super emotionally invested in most of them. I am sure this is a surprise.
That's the thing: I really liked DA2. And DA:O and DA:A. But DA:I? Nope. Nothing. I couldn't begin to tell you why.

I totally had the opposite experience. I meant to say 'most of the characters' rather than most of the games. I really loved the DA:O /story/, just loved loved loved, but really didn't get particularly invested in any of the individual people in those stories. It was way easier for me to pick my party based on utility in the other games. I struggled with DA2.
-
@sunny Yeah, I usually have one party of favorites I play with almost exclusively, but in DAI that wasn't really the case. I really loved Varric and Bull and Dorian and Cole and Cassandra and Vivienne. I even liked carting Solas around for the interesting interactions...once I modded the game so that banter always fires on the timer, instead of going hours without.

Remember that plot in DA2 that wasn't about Merrill or Varric that was interesting? Yeah, me neither. Interesting aside: The woman who wrote for Merrill also wrote for Varric. (edit: Okay, Aveline was very good as a character, and I liked her little love plot. I did. It was heart-warming for Lady Man-Hands.)
I've been playing through Fallout 4 again, even though its stories are only a slightly better grade than DA2's. I find the game boring as sin. Why do I have over 700 hours logged in it? What is wrong with me?!

Um yes? I do remember? I remember all the plots because DA2 had the best story and best characters of all the DA games?

I concur.
Keep in mind that I was totally blown away by The Last of Us, though, so anything else is just meh in my books. Except Horizon Zero Dawn, which is the only game that can give me vertigo after a couple of hours.
Goddamned Banuk Figurines.

I have heard this a few times and while I try to give the benefit of the doubt to a company that could knock out some of the best storytelling in video games, but I don't see it. Even if I ignore Fenris (who I wanted to like, I really did) and Anders (who, having wildly enjoyed DA:A, I did not), I don't see it. I saw largely a series of shallow, far too short, and often vaguely referenced events that were tacitly linked together via not a whole lot of a lot.
This is absolutely a matter of preference, though I wish I could see it through the eyes of people who feel as you do about it. Ah well.

I really enjoyed Inquisition, aside from all of the characters being god awful trash heaps (except Cassandra and the Iron Bull guy).
DEEP BREATH um wow you take that back Varric Tethras is the best Dragon Age companion ever, even if he did get sad between 2 and Inquisition, he is still my fake platonic true love. (also cassandra and iron bull are gr8)
sits here in the "I kind of like Solas, even though he's a lying jackass" corner
It is very hard for me not to romance him every single time I play Inquisition, just because I know how it is going to end, and the conga-line of trauma and betrayal a Solasmancing elf character experiences from the 3/4ths point to the end of the game is just...melodramatic catnip. Also, well intentioned extremists who end up betraying you for A Cause are kinda my fictional type (yes, I romanced Anders, and then stabbed him).
-
@pyrephox Well, yes. There are no other remotely interesting romance storylines for a ladychar. (Sorry, Josephine, you're adorable but eh)

Iron Bull is fun, although the potential for Drama doesn't REALLY kick in until the DLC.

If all companions were Morrigan, the Dragon Age series would be much better. The series is a failure because of the lack of Morrigan.
-
@tempest Is the first picture a cinematic? Or is it from DA:I? Damn, man.
-
Pretty sure a cinematic.
ETA : I'm not even sure that's from the game at all, to be completely honest.
-
@tempest Morrigan always brings me the feels, I have no idea why, to be honest. Must be the Lovely Savage trope or something.
I only like Leliana when she's mean.
-
Pretty sure Morrigan is the best thing that DA:O had going for it.
-
@ganymede Depends on your playthrough. The dwarf playthrough was pretty good, but I liked noble warrior/rogue.
I had a highly powerful arcane warrior/blood wizard mage and it was a very meh experience.
Favorite fight: The Revenant
