I need the exam, too. It's been a couple years. I may well buy the glasses themselves online after, but I have to go through the whole shebang. I'm just tired of squinting even when wearing 'em.
I also need two pairs since I'm near & far-sighted. I want Gunnars again for computer/indoor use because oh man they are amazing. I never want to go to something else.

I have progressives (the sun-changey-ones?) for my other pair of glasses. I think I'd prefer prescription sunglasses, tbh, but then I'd be on 3 pairs. 'Cause while I could get bifocals or some shit, that'd be a pain for gaming.
@auspice No, those aren't progressive. Progressive lenses are like bifocals. Except there's no line of delineation between far and near. Instead, it's more a gradual change from one to the other. There's also no visible line in the lens.
Got an interview lined up tomorrow with an uncertain company. I think they're one of those who advertise for marketing and then it's a "whoops! Haha! We're actually in store sales teams!" but the job description doesn't list that and is a higher salary than those usually pay.
So meh. They're only a couple miles from my apartment and it's a meet and greet sort of interview. So I'll hear it out.
But! I also got contacted by a recruiter at Dell about a position on their Alienware / gaming team for social media management. Pay there would be almost twice what I'm making. So imma push for that one really hard.
@cobaltasaurus You can go get titers tests for immunizations. School records are destroyed after 6-7 years in most states. http://requestatest.com will let you order from LabCorp, which has testing sites all over the place. Just type in the disease and "titers" and it should come up as an immunization or titers test.
I walked 24 miles in the past 4 days.
Okay, so my left hip and left arch are killing me, and walking 3 miles a day in 80 degree heat may not have been the smartest idea, but I am not at all surprised at how much higher quality my sleep has been.
On the other hand, my left leg and foot aches in a way that I'm not looking forward to dealing with in dress shoes.

Fuck you husband and "doing me a favor" by doing laundry and not thinking to say 'hey honey, where's the new fabric softener" nope. he went digging in the back of a cupboard and found a bottle of shitty store brand that he bought one time a couple years ago that I reacted to and washed all of our bedding, our furniture covers, and a load of my clothes.
Now I have itchy bitchy blisters all over my hands, between my fingers, around my ears, nose and in a week, I'm going to start looking like a zombie. Fuuuuuuuck him and his favor.
Upside... he now has to do the dishes since no way in hell can I do them right now. Guess he pays a price.
Any of you contact lenses-wearing folks feel your eyes are getting way more dry in the summer time?
Like, the ones I'm wearing at the moment came from literally the same box of monthlies as before, and I've only been using these ones for about 15 days, but they feel like wallpaper in my eyes. I haven't changed anything else, including the cleaning solution.
I can't tell if it's the warmer weather, the AC in the office or something else but argh.

I have anxiety. Like, on meds anxiety. Get sharp chest pains when I'm suffering an attack anxiety. Avoid large (sometimes small) social events anxiety. See a therapist when my health insurance isn't being an ass about covering it anxiety.
One of the biggest things for me is taking calls. Like not your average talk on the phone to a friend. Not even calling my doctor or other adult things. I mean working in a call center shit. Hell, one of my projects at work is essentially providing (internal) IT support for a company. I can even handle that because the people on the other hand are internal users, expected to be professional, and we can even be a little laid back and cavalier. Chat with them, be a little firm if necessary, go silent while working on something because hey: they know I'm working to fix their issue and they're probably working on stuff too!
It's customers. Customers who have that 'THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT!!!!111' mindset. Customers who think it's a-ok to treat service industry people like total shit. Customers who think it's totally fine to issue threats; up to and including death threats. And the increasing number of companies that don't give a fuck that their agents are treated this way and insist: just make the customer happy!
It sets off my anxiety so bad that the last company I took these kind of calls for.... I ended up one morning waking up, getting ready to leave my house, and finding myself incapable of walking through the door. It took two months (and a few really, really difficult to even get to therapy visits, some of which were over the phone) to even begin taking short trips back into social situations.
My current job knows this. I am even working on disability paperwork with them. They are waiting on the paperwork from my doctor.
What'd they do this week? Decide that, despite me only being on a particular project for 4-10 hours a week, on weekends, I was going to be one of 5 'test agents' to start taking calls.

Just refuse. Cite medical necessity. You've got the documentation for it. If they try and take retributive action, you've got a mile of proof that their actions were unreasonable given the circumstances.

It really depends on locality. My eyes are much drier in the winter, but that's because heating systems are constantly engaged and they blow dry air. It's too cool here to bother with more than a fan, so the air is generally more moist, and I have much fewer issues with my contacts.

@ganymede In my own experience, I hate doing customer service work because it is a severe anxiety trigger. Despite this, I'm really good at it, probably to overcompensate for how taxing it is to me mentally. Most managers are there to maximize their talent get the job done. So, if you are really great at something, they don't care if it kills you inside to do it. They aren't there to worry about your mental health, just the bottom line.
And people wonder why workers no longer have loyalty to companies. I just read an article about employees that 'ghost' employers by just walking out of a job and never coming back. Like employers haven't been pulling stuff like this for years.

Probably some "well she's our #1 agent for tickets and chats" YES BECAUSE THAT IS ALL TEXT-BASED.
A lot of people without anxiety, without depression, and who have never really had someone in their life who has truly suffered from one of those things have zero comprehension of what it really, truly means.
I've been fighting to get it understood, to get it across to people at work. Unfortunately, my doctor has been delayed in her end of the paperwork, so it's all just in a sort of grey area. I don't know if I can refuse under medical necessity since it's not all completed and right now it's just on my say-so and 'here I have meds.'

Yes. It's a numbers game. And I work for a company that has a client. The client is probably the one that named me and my company wants to make them happy.
Because the client sees the numbers. See, we get progress reports sent out every week to the team. And it calls out who the top performers on the team are. A 'So our top agents this week...' Some weeks there's as many as six or seven of us. Some weeks there's only one of us.
Guess whose name has been on that list almost every week for the past three months? I think the only week I missed being on it was when I was sick a couple weeks ago.
So yes, the client is pretty much guaranteed to pull my name. All I am to them is a name and a number. I'm not a face. I am not a person. I'm numbers in a database that crunch to a positive integer that make their investors happy.
That is all I exist to be.
And it's why I desperately, intensely hate customer service.
I have a phone interview Friday (it's been rescheduled a couple times this week because the person conducting it has been busy) that I think should be good. I interviewed with the company earlier this year. They really liked me, but the job itself wasn't a good fit. This job really is. And I put the resume in Saturday evening and they emailed me Monday morning. That's... a really good sign. That's a 'you hit the top of the pile' hit.
