The streets are clean, mostly, but please pay no attention to the junkie hiding at the mouth of the alley, drool rolling down his chin as he blissfully stares off into nothing. Jobs are plentiful, but please pay no attention to the child quietly sobbing while standing in the long lines at the food banks. Opportunities are equal, but please pay no attention to the whitewashed executive boardrooms.

The San Francisco of 2025 is different. A tech bubble that rivals Silicon Valley in the 1990's has swept through the city, bringing with it prosperity for those with the right skills. It has also brought income disparity the likes of which the city hasn't seen since the gold rush of the late 1940's. Political activism is on the rise as the have-nots push to become the haves, and, just like in any sort of conflict, factions are already forming.

Which side will you be on?

San Francisco: Paris of the West is a nWoD 1e MUX set in near-future (2025) San Francisco. Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Changeling, Geist, and Mortal/Mortal+ characters will be available for play. Coming soon to a telnet client near you!

Chargen is In! (Although people find bugs for me still, but we've got most of them ironed out). XP Room is mostly built, and we have some players approved and on-Grid!

@thenomain The best line I've heard in that vein (I'm a professional software engineer, so I hear a lot of this at work) is: "You're not writing code for yourself. You're writing for the murderous psychopath that will own your code in six months." Apparently consequences that include death are what are required for good code these days. Who knew?

You are the one that has not managed to accomplish as much as the others, it likely has nothing to do with chronological age) of the group. That's the role you've chosen. That doesn't disqualify you from participation, because you've got a Cabal around you. There may be IC ramifications (maybe your cabalmates warn you off because 'you're not ready' or they take extra pains to protect you in combat), but none of these things eliminate your participation. Those things will play out in a way that is hopefully interesting and believable. Because that's the role you chosen. You know... role play.

@kay I don't see why that would be a problem at all! In fact, our setting prefers characters that are new to the city, so you and your crew would be a welcome addition.

@magee101 Our 'alpha' is more about allowing people to log in and look around (right now, we're locked down to staff logins only). CharGen is still being coded, and our Wiki is still being built, but we'd like the opportunity to see who's interested in our idea, set up a dialog, kick around some story ideas with our first 'wave' of players. At some point during Alpha, we'll open up Chargen, because I'm very sure that people will find bugs in my code, and I'd rather find them sooner than later.

Beta is where we start talking about character approval. Some of our House Rules may still be in flux during this point as well, but will be firm by the time we open.

@jennkryst Mummy is possible at a later date with enough interest and an enthusiastic staff.

You are correct. I would like it to post instantly to the screen (which it does for me just fine in MUSHClient).

It really depends on locality. My eyes are much drier in the winter, but that's because heating systems are constantly engaged and they blow dry air. It's too cool here to bother with more than a fan, so the air is generally more moist, and I have much fewer issues with my contacts.

Cyberpunk is definitely an influence in our theme. But we're leaning much more to the -punk than the cyber- in cyberpunk. We pointedly used a nearby year (2025) so that the technology is similar (ermahgerd, iPhone 15!) but no holograms. Essentially, the technology is the same, except... well, that's a spoiler, never mind.

What's the Vampire sphere landscape like? Requiem 1e is something I'm interested in, and I would love to know if there's actually political interplay incentive, or if the sphere itself is reliant on partying with other spheres (no offense intended).

Couple of things to help that: Ever see the John Wick movies? Remember the gold coins that were used to purchase 'stuff' in that unusual world? That is how Vampires on Paris of the West handle Prestation. Doing things for a vampire gets you coins. Requesting a favor? It'll cost you coins. Want something from the Prince? Coin. Banes and Boons start to make sense for once. If that doesn't help political play, nothing else will.

Aside from that... the Vamp TL was chomping at the bit to get political RP started, so Court is going on RIGHT NOW despite the fact that we're not officially 'open' yet.

And staff there have been very open and accommodating of just about everything, from what I've seen, so it's not like people had the door slammed in their faces. If there are people who were in chargen and are now barred, it's probably because they either hadn't logged in for a bit, or hadn't really made any kind of substantial progress on this one.

I know in Mage, literally 20 people got that @mail, and he even said on channel that he'd be willing to work with people if some got missed but were still in chargen. Which is how Mage went from 33 to like, 45 or something.

So this is pretty much the opposite of unkind.

Yes, I'm Gabriel (I mention that I'm the Mage TL earlier in this thread, but it's easy to miss). 20 mages are approved. 16 mages are in the approval queue, and made it into the cap. So, not quite 40, but quite a few more than the 25 I was hoping for. Once I have a Mage Admin at my side and we're in a good rhythm, we'll re-set the cap at something loftier.
