What locations do you want to RP in?

Yeah, but why the extra step? Hell, add the “what is this?” to the summary and I can kill +directory in one stroke.

If you want to condense, have at.

One of the most indispensable things in any setting in the World of Darkness is hope.
Because true tragedy and narrative darkness is about loss and people can't lose something they don't have.

Put this in the Politics topic where it belongs.

On the MUD I played on for 12 years give or take, religion was a big thing. There were temples to all the Gods. My first major char was a priestess who became a big deal High Priestess. At every temple everything, people would rp sitting in 'pews'. There were no pews in the room desc and why would these pagany temples have pews? But people do what they do.
-
Pews are just benches with backs. Admittedly I don't think they fit with say Greek mythology, but wtf do I know?

I once had a character who ran a small art gallery. Paintings, checkout counter, that's it. Somebody came in one day and posed going over to the bar and ordering a drink.

Maybe they were pretending it was opening night for a hot new exhibit, black tie and open bar. Maybe.

I usually play from my phone. I run around in brief mode so it doesn't even display room descs.
I don't feel bad at all. Not even a little. 99% of the time the room name is all you need.
That said.. places that aren't Bars. It may be because RL I abhor the bar scene but I hate when places turn in to nothing but BaRP

It's a MU, so how can one have the requisite BarP without a bar in every room?

I actually wonder why bar rp is such a thing. Are the undead super focused on the final four based on nostalgia for their one time alma mater?
Especially because strangers talking to you at a bar can be really creepy, it doesn't seem like the best setting for meeting new people, or old people.
Is it because people like rping in a new situation with a pretend drink in their hand, just like in real life having one to hold gives you something to do and thus lubricates the awkwardness of being around all those strangers?
Bars are only cool for a short window of life, then they are the worst.

Where, in real life, do you actually meet random people and have a reason to talk for more than 2 sentences?
Mind you, I despise Bar RP, but I understand why it's so prevalent.
Or at least have my thoughts on why it's so prevalent. And the primary one is that doing something besides bar RP actually requires putting a bit of thought into your character (maybe I'm just getting more and more jaded lately, but a lot of people seem to really really be bad at making even slightly interesting characters --not that I'm a hero of creativity and fun or anything myself but more and more characters these days just feel like generic self-inserts 'i wish I was this pretty prince/princess') and why they would be doing something and setting a Bar RP scene usually requires 0 brain power (and tends to be pretty dull because of that). It also doesn't require communication between the two parties to explain why they'd be there.
Sure, I could set something with my vampire lurking around a children's park at 2 am because she had a daughter that died and it haunts her blahblahblah. But then that requires the other person to have a reason to be dicking around the park and also have a reason to poke at my character.
Etc, etc.
For me personally, even though I hate Bar Rp, I still often use it as a filter. I'm not going to waste my time thinking up an actually interesting set for playing with somebody I don't know/haven't played with, only to have their response pose be -- Jim is walking by the park. He notices somebody on the swing and thinks that's weird because it's 2am. He walks over and says, "Hey, how you doin'?"
TL;DR - Bar RP is easy, requires no thought/effort, and is the quintessential lead-in for TS with minimal pre-RP. Like the lowest common denominator of RP or something (pretty sure I have this saying wrong, sue me), which appears to be the most popular.

I would like to play on a MU* based on the hit 90's show, Friends.

A WoD game where all the characters live in the same apartment building? I'm in.
-
I'd like to play Vampire Rachel, and also the coffee shop guy whose name I don't remember. Thx.
-
I nominate the H. H. Holmes murder castle for the building.
'All rooms include special disposal amenities. All leases month to month; inquire for daily and weekly rates; gas and waste services inclusive. Be advised: the furnace acts up intermittently and may blast foul-scented heat even in summer months.'

I don't mind bar RP.
It's good to get to know people.
It's good downtime for characters.
It sucks if it's the only RP in the game. -

So, yeah, I think this is a thing. When I make a character, especially when I make a mortal in a WoD game, I always think about what will make other people want to interact with me. If we take Danielle on F&L she has thing going on in a few different ways. Base level, she's a street artist, so that's an easy hook that can go a few different ways. Deeper, she's a psychic who gets visions of the supernatural world, which has led her to be Highly Suspicious of supers and causes her to go digging around in their business so that she knows what's up and how to protect herself. I don't mind her getting caught doing this, because the goal is not to know everyone's secrets, but to have a reason to be poking around places she wouldn't otherwise be, thus leading to RP.
However, I feel like sometimes people who create a character do so because the concept is interesting, but don't think about who is going to interact with that character or why.
I want to give a shout-out to Fifth Kingdom here, because when I peeked in there, their policy was that everyone had to have a position in court, which, again, helps people establish where/how they'll connect. Likewise, BITN had a rule that everyone had to be 'in the know,' which didn't completely end Bar RP, but did encourage people to create characters with past connections and networks.
TLDR; I don't think it would hurt games to help players think through how their character interacts with the world or other characters, perhaps even setting down hard and fast rules that encourages reasons to interact and interactions that move beyond shallow meetings.

You must live in an area without a bar/pub culture. I sit at the actual bar of local microbreweries at least once a week and just strike up conversations with people. I have had some of my most interesting interactions in this way. Prohibition and the temperance movement really did a number on what is a very natural way to socialize - grab some good beer and talk to strangers for no reason but to just relax and have fun.
-
@Ominous that was kind of the point of pubs and coffeehouses, yeah.
