Wheel of Time MU(SH|X)

Yeah, so I read this whole thread. This shit is my drug. I cut my RP teeth twenty-odd years ago in Wheel of Time chatrooms on AOL. I am guaranteed to play on this thing and would be happy to help as I can. I'll probably just idle on the server forever until people show up.
-
@popes Yeah, I'd play on a WoT MUSH so hard I wouldn't even flake out right away!
-
Update:
I'm at the white boarding systems phase. I think I have gotten the basics of non-channeling specific stats and physical combat pretty well roughed out.
Next up is channeling and how to merge channel vs channel combat with physical

Did you ever decide between Ares and Evennia?
Not that it necessarily matters, but I find Ares to be a much sharper web front-end, but it seems like "coders" are preferring Evennia, and was just kinda curious where you landed.
-
I actually have both running on the server right now but probably leaning towards Ares just because it's so slick out of the box. I am curious to see how web chargen willl go once I rip out and replace FS3 though.
I would still prefer to code in Python instead of Ruby, but it's a lot of extra coding in evennia to get it to functionality already in Ares. I haven't made a decision 100% one way or another so we'll see what happens once I'm done the system design phase.

I need a word to describe skill with the One Power. Not raw power, but how nimble and practiced you are with it... one that isnt' Talent since that has another meaning
-
Capability? Practice? Facility? Or.. uh, skill?
-
@wildbaboons Adeptness? Capability? Finesse?
-
-
+1 Finesse.
But you could also go with just straight up "Weaving."
-
Went with finesse. It's what I was looking for.
Anyone want to help muck around to prettify a wiki?
Maybe someone with experience with ares wiki. maybe.
-
@wildbaboons If you know Wikidot, you should be able to Areswiki pretty easily.
I'd volunteer, but I can't actually get to Ares sites from work. Ports are blocked. I can reach M*s through the Cheesesoftware, but not the actual portal.

Not sure which site you're referring to, but the site admin can potentially fix this by running the web portal on a droplet/linode on port 80. (Or by setting up a sub-domain on an existing website.) Then it looks like just a regular old website. Firewall blockers tend to mostly have an issue when you run it on a weird port. T8S for instance is running on port 8000, which many firewalls will be like : "Yeah, nope."
But yeah, Ares supports a lot of Wikidot syntax for my own sanity.
-
@faraday Mmm.
I can reach the website, but it doesn't have any info. This is from BGSU right now (and my Ares install looks the same, running on the default ports).

We chatted offline, but for record of anyone else having a similar problem - that seems to be a pretty hardcore firewall. Each one is different and it's hard to troubleshoot without being able to go to the person on the other end all: "So hey why is this not working" There are some tricks you can do with ports and subdomains to make it more firewall-friendly which I'd be happy to discuss with folks outside the thread.
-
@yyrqun exactly!

I am woefully unfamiliar with anything wiki related. I'll get there eventually but if someone with Wikidot or Ares wiki experience wants to poke at stuff I won't say no
-
@wildbaboons I love this idea. Mostly because it opens up new avenues. SEACHEAN chanellers no longer under their Sul'dam system potentially. Seeing a world that they've never seen.
The Great Game in ebb and flow.. The riot of color Intruige and people mixing in a metropolitan city trade Hub.

And I think I may have settled on theme (for the moment). Fourth Age, shortly after the Last Battle. Instead of basing it in an existing city, a new city is being formed somewhere or another from all the nations involved as a sort of nexus/UN deal with plenty of opportunity for world building for folks that like to do that, politicking for those sorts, and the more adventurous stuff as well
The time period sounds exactly right.
The city... I don't know that it matters too much. Book purists will want an existing city (Caemlyn, Cairhien, Tar Valon would all work) and more casual players probably won't care what the nexus is called.
Ultimately a few weeks in it shouldn't matter either way as long as the other pieces are in place.
-
My thinking is that an existing city would tie concepts too closely to whatever is in the region and setting things somewhere new would allow everyone from everywhere a place, thought places like the White Tower and the Farm, etc may still be coded ElseWhere where they will likely frequent use, the focus would be on the new place.
I am picturing it as something like the war camps from the Stormlight series. At first everyone starts out in tents, but as the game progresses and different factions want to invest more they can redesc with buildings, etc. Let the players shape the game and all.
I have a very rough idea for a faction/Great Game system that I need to try and flesh out more, but if I can pull it off I think folks will really like
