Mutant Genesis (X-Men)

The usual suspect women always go instantly. While I'm sure part of that is everyone's desire to do creepy mindrape on Emma, it's more a reflection on the sexism of comics, where the raw #s just don't favor them. Remember, it took more than a decade to get to Storm from Jean Grey being the team's 'OMG a girl!' (literally their reaction in #1), and to the 80s before they had any kind of variety (Kitty, Dazzler, Rachel, then Rogue and eventually the few more that come in with the New Mutants). If we're talking Gotham, it's probably even worse, since they were pretty much all sexy villains, although it's also a slightly unfair comparison since Gotham isn't a team setting, it's... Batman.
Gotham is a full DC game though, so there's probably more options left there than there are on Mutant Genesis, particularly since it's focused not just on Gotham but the whole Flashpoint storyline which involves all the Amazons and Atlanteans and pretty much the whole world. There are more canon mutants than bat-fam, but they also get to 'Who?' tier pretty fast, and I think the popular ladies were gone on Genesis in the first few hours, let alone days.

Oh, true, but it doesn't change the fact there are just way more mutants (even if many are relative or even complete unknowns) than there are in Gotham; you might not get Emma or Kitty but you can get someone who was around for a year or two.
The same starved population of MUSHers will probably snatch all the characters when they roll on Flashpoint within a couple of hours, recognisable or not.
There's probably no solution about it that doesn't involve OCs.
-
Ehnnnn. Like who? Once you're past Jean/Emma/Storm/Rogue/Wanda/Kitty/Psylocke you're already past non-comic media recognition, with New Mutants on the edge of that and maybe getting a boost since they're getting a movie. Past that... you're really into nerd territory.
Oh, I guess you could be Jubilee! Hooray!
The Gotham thing feels like a semantic argument. Its true for the Gotham/Bat-Fam cast, but Gotham: FP isn't a Gotham game. It's just set there. Flashpoint is a world-sprawling storyline with a lot of focus in Europe as well. As far as I can see, the Atlantean/Amazon casts are untouched, though people have sniped off the main JL ladies.
But yeah, the popular ones will get snatched up though I think it's far from the slim pickings a mutant-only game creates.

@bored One of the first hits on google lists 50 female X-Men members (apologies for the "babe" label): https://comicvine.gamespot.com/profile/trky1/lists/women-of-x-men/33905/
Obviously not all of them are A-listers, but you may be more hard pressed to find as many in Gotham.
-
@arkandel I think that list kind of makes my point, especially if you compare it with characters who are already taken and/or the groups I mentioned. Do you think someone like Vertigo is really an appealing FC?
... oh right, and JUBILEE!!!!
Obviously not all of them are A-listers, but you may be more hard pressed to find as many in Gotham.
And this is you continuing to make the same weird intentionally oblivious argument? I don't get it. FP: Gotham is not a Batman game. It's a game about a global war between the Atlanteans and Amazons where the grid happens to be in Gotham. Taking that into account, there's probably something like 10x the available popular characters.

As someone who has played Jubilee more than once before, I have to just chime in with an obligatory, "Why does everyone say my name like it means 'shut up'?"

Because while I know you don't suck, I'm sorry, but, Jubilee has a weird attraction to those that do more then suck, but suck badly and with intensity.
Jubilee was my first ban on m1963. She was the second Jubilee. The first, was only just not banned, and by a small margin.
Jubilee calls to the crazy. Its not that all Jubes are crazy, at all; I'd never judge a character based on this history. Buuuuuut.
History says: Jubilee are cray, yo.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that characters with extroverted personalities that are given an out from consequences due to their age or any other variable, are going to attract a lot of problematic players.
Doesn't really matter why someone is given an out from consequences. Age, Tragic Backstory, Strong Dude That Doesn't Afraid of Anything, Family That Will Protect The Princess... whatever. Any character that can act like a prima donna and get away with it for some reason is going to attract the worst people in the hobby, with a small percentage of positive, collaborative roleplayers.
-
Where are all the Strong Dudes That Does Afraid of Stuff?
-
@tempest If only the Sentry was in theme.

Curious how this game is doing, three weeks out. No news is usually good news, so cautiously optimistic.

Hello, everyone!
A lot of updated were made to the game in the last few months, so I feel an update here is also warranted!
First major change is that now the crowd over Gods and Monsters MUX has joined our game. The DC and Marvel grids are split, and there is no IC interaction between DC and Marvel characters, but everything else is joined!
Characters can now be X-Men, Brotherhood or Independent, if so suits your playstyle! Keep in mind Indepedent characters require some proactivity, since most events are geared toward the Teams.
We are now also accepting Original Characters on the Mutant Genesis side again (must be mutants, tho). More information in the wiki!
We also added Antagonist PCs, to allow proven Storytellers to claim characters from the Marvelverse, from Punisher to Venom, so they can run stories about them and keep the mutant characters on their toes. The Avengers are now just getting players and we would love to get the Thunderbolts started! The Thunderbolts of our world are inspired by their Dark Reign Era, where they are the USA secret operations supergroup branch
A few available characters needing players: Archangel, Beast, Cable, Cannonball, Dazzler, Magma, Moonstar, Nightcrawler, Polaris, any of the Cuckoos, Storm, Warpath and Wolverine.
Plotwise we have just finished the Sublime arc, and The Avengers have just found their footing. Next up we are tackling the Sentinels and the Acolytes!

Tangent--
I find the idea of playing a single Cuckoo super weird. Like, honestly, I can't imagine more than one player playing the Cuckoos. They're too psychically linked with each other. It would take forever to page-communicate, not to mention OOC disagreements... just... nnngh.

@coin Didn't all but one die in the comics?
That could work, or their link be severed, etc... and roleplay the fallback and consequences of finally being alone in your own head.
-
Three of them are alive in the comics and they are essentially, with a few individuality traits, treated often as 'one character' in how they present as a hive mind.

I wish I could have stayed, but to be entirely honest, I had too much of a hard time breaking through. Events were scheduled before I could get on, and arriving in the middle in all cases left me hanging. I brought up a concern about cliquishness to staff and was told "Oh no, they're totally nice people, really!"
Still, I love Marvel theme games and hope that they thrive. I'm bummed that it didn't work out for me.
ETA: I did have a few scenes that were absolutely lovely, and I'm thankful for the chance to have done something cool with Kitty's ninja-ness!

I'm working on picking up Kitty, so hopefully I'll be able to do well with her. I was actually v. pleased to see that the previous person (you!) had given her both Lockheed and her ninja-ness rather than leaving those behind (as seems to happen often in my experience ;.;). They're why I decided to nab her and join the Marvel side of things.
-
@auspice I hope you enjoy her! I'm familiar enough with you to know you won't go for erasure of her Jewish-ness which is pretty much the standard by which I measure Kitty-players.
-
Bwahahaha. I picked up Colossus and chatted with @Cupcake about relationship-fu without knowing it was her at all.
I really wish I had more time to play the big Russian.

Nah. Neither erasure nor like THIS IS A FULL ON TROPE GUIZ.
It's just another part of who she is, yo.
