Welcome to Stranger Than Fiction
Connect At: 66.85.147.85 port 3326
http://www.stfmush.comWelcome to the small town of Callahan, Ohio. Everything is picturesque. Houses line the streets with their perfect lawns. Shops open at 8 and close at 5. People barbecue in their back yards while little league games carry on between festivals. Cheerleaders cheer on the small town heroes of the football field. Everything is perfect...on the surface. What many refuse to see are the mounting lists of missing persons reports or the large number of strange, unsolvable deaths in the area.
While the adults go on with their seemingly perfect lives, the teens of Callahan just can't seem to shake the feeling that something is very. Very wrong.
Inspired by the hit Netflix series 'Stranger Things' as well as the works of R.L Stine and Stephen King, Stranger Than Fiction puts players into the shoes of the students of Callahan High School as they try to uncover the secrets that make their town such a dark and dangerous place.

Wiki looks very nice!
I did have a question though, about the 'adoptable' characters.
Are those characters staff is making explicitly for the roster, or are they characters players made (and played) months ago during a 'first attempt' of the game and are now getting made public as 'roster characters' in this reboot? Or was there a beta back in July, or what?
I thought it was the first option initially and was going to compliment the amount of effort put into those characters, they look like lots of fun. But a bit of wiki-fu'ing (IE, the page history showing that it was made by a name matching the character name, rather than some admin account) made me consider it might be option B, which I'm not sure how I'd feel about.
-
This looks fantastic at a glance. I hope it goes well and will peek more after errands and the holiday chaos. Good luck!
-
@tempest It is actually a combination of all three.
For the most part nearly all of the characters were staff made. I believe there are one or two that may have been previously made by actual players who beta tested the game back in July.
Some of the staff made rosters have been played during the beta phase, thus the reason they actually have more developed wiki sheets and the like.
More rosters will be added to the game as needed, but staff did not want to flood the game with rosters since the game is a blend of open chargen and roster.

That's a good idea. If you don't put up some boundaries you
mightprobably will end up with a really skewed number of ex-special forces snipers and martial arts experts who just happened to have retired in that city. -

Sex : Yup. You gotta pick one! For the mentally delayed players, pick between Male and Female.
That blurb is so uncool on so many levels.

Fucking yikes.
-
Yeah. It's so cringeworthy that I actually went back to take a screen capture.
-
@karmageddon I want to believe it was an oversight/failed attempt at humor.
-
Can we not do this here?
-
Look out, it's the media!
-
It was likely humor. I am on the game and the staff are pretty nice.
-
Also! If anyone is planning on trying it out.. I'm working on a bit. If you want connections/CG together.
Also, Drama fixed the offending phrase on the wiki. So, it was not intended to offend or anything.

I'm giving it a shot. I'm not big on playing sixteen but Riverdale meets Buffy meets It is just too tempting as a change from supers and isn't WoD.
-
@tnp I joined today, pitched a concept, got approved, found a scene and had fun, making some nice in-character connections, all in the space of a few hours.
I'm not ready to call the place the best thing since sliced bread yet, but I can't fault my first taste of activity and staff responsiveness thus far.

I find it works OK when EVERYBODY is playing teenagers (I was an active Harry Potter setting player, back in the day).
This is tempting and seems well put together. I'll give it a look as soon as I finish binging Stranger Things (alas, workplace that makes me...go to work).
-
Is this the closest we’re apt to get to Tales From The Loop MUSH?
Edit: Eh, naw. Despite the Stranger Things comparison it looks more overtly supernatural horror than science horror.
-
@tnp @Collective @Three-Eyed-Crow I am Noelle if you guys want to make connections.
-
I'm iffy on a teenager but am going to give it a shot.

I didn't see anything that explained what happened when you rolled dice, except for damage. In the first system example on the game, you roll 5 dice and then what?
Not a criticism, but it's oddly missing.
