The corporations in Columbus couldn’t care less. Nationwide funded our relatively shitty NHL franchise and I don’t know who funded our relatively shitty minor-league baseball stadium downtown, but The Crew’s fans have heart in the face of their relatively constant relatively shitty situations.

Your Clippers are now the Triple-A affiliate for the Cleveland Indians who now play downtown near the Arena, where your relatively shitty NHL franchise did better than the Chicago Blackhawks and other established franchises.

That said, the Crew's current investor-operator is upset because the Clippers got a snazzy new venue, and their team didn't. The owner wanted a new stadium, and the City wanted a commitment. Both met in late 2017, and left with nothing. And that lawsuit has already been filed not only by the City, but by the State of Ohio, thanks to our friendly, neighborhood gremlin, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, and a law that was passed after Art Modell's move.

“It is better to live doing the things that you like. It is foolish to live within this dream of a world seeing unpleasantness and doing only things that you do not like.” -- Yamamoto Tsunetomo.

Currently getting 125 Mbps down, 0.96 Mbps down on firberop. 45 down 32 up on wireless. When I use the speed test of the service provider it can't even locate my province as the closest one, but there is nothing wrong, REALLY!

@admiral I ended up texting her, referred her to the policies and where to find the relevant one and that she still had a balance due and please pay it as soon as possible. She paid the balance last, unhappily, with the "daycare was closed but I still had to pay" in the comment section. I was unimpressed. You still gotta pay in the big daycare centers, you are a nanny and getting two weeks paid vacation, so why the hell am I not allowed my paid vacation says scheduled in a way to nit overly inconvenience you?

They won't like october. My dad is coming down for canadian thanksgiving which co-incides wuth tge two days off from school for columbus day holiday. Usually i have the kids all on school holidays. Nope, not this time. Closed to fix windows and bathtubs and see my dad for the first time in 12 years. Find someone else.

I can already see the angry.

@jibberthehut People are always going to be upset about anything they don't get for free, and if they get it for free they'll wonder why you aren't paying them for the pleasure of working for them.

It sucks, but you have to walk a very fine line between obeisance and self respect as a small business owner.

If I were in your place I'd tell them I was going to be closed for facility maintenance and improvements. If you mention a vacation at all they're going to screech.

This one is a peeve: No, Mom. There are no finished rocks yet. I told you this process takes 2-3 months. It's been two weeks! Believe me, I wish it was that quick way more than you do.

This is karmic payback for all the road trips when I was a little kid and every utterance of 'are we there yet' in my life, I'm sure of it.

Yes, Mom, I put some of the boringest plain white rocks you love for no reason I could possibly understand into the noisy machines, too.

                      Sigh.

                      Oh fucking well.

@admiral yup, pretty much. Because i am not comfortable installing windows myself, but my dad flips houses. Win win. I get a pair of new basement windows that are not 60 years old and to see my parents and take some of my two weeks holiday. It sucks for them, but tgats life. I take 2 daysholiday outside of statutory, thats pretty good considering most daycares in the area take the bank holidays too and between christmas and new years. But i will word it that way. Thanks

So in prep for 4th of July (the first I'll get to actually attend festivities for in a handful of years), I'm looking for this picnic blanket I have. It's one of those handy ones that folds up all neat and snaps together.

I have looked in every box, bin, etc...... except one that is buried awkwardly behind others.

So I'm assuming that's where it is seeing as how I haven't found it yet.
                          Ugh.

...when the a/c dies on the hottest days of the year. And you have an elderly long-haired cat. And you melt in heat like Dorothy just threw a bucket of water on you.

If anybody has a spare $5k just hanging around that they need to be rid of to end some crazy curse from a one-eyed old hag or something, send a PM. 😕 I can offer only lots of good karma and seashells.

(Kidding, obviously. But if that is the case, really, send a PM! 😕 )

@surreality We just dropped $800 on having our A.C. fixed, down from the B.S. $6K estimate we received from the repair company. I strongly advise getting a second opinion.

In the meantime, I don't live that far and if you and the hubs can fit our old window A.C. unit in your vehicle, you're welcome to come borrow one or two of them for a spell so at least one room in your house is livable.

(Alternately, I think my office is even closer, so if the boy can load one in my car, and I can meet you at the Wegmans by work so you don't have to worry that @insomniac7809 and I are going to store you in the garage freezer like internet psychos. Or something.)

@Aria Thankfully, the folks know this is 'crisis mode', so they're handling it, as they technically own this house as well. I think. I'm getting groused at about it -- like I had some control over a 16 year old unit finally dying -- but... yeah, we could get the coil replaced in 2 weeks for $1k less, but it is 16 years old. It's overdue as it is for its swan song, apparently. If it wasn't practically an antique, I would be giving this way more side-eye.

If it gets truly impossible, I can flee next door to crash in my old bedroom. (Their cats' room, now. Their cats would be so confused!)

So much appreciated, though. ❤ (He is also naturally off at work in NJ until late late tomorrow night. Of course, right?)
