(Maybe with a bathroom for the TS.)
Text allows for infinite possibilities and yet, we're still tryna fuck in a dirty gas station bathroom. Some things never change.
Speak for yourself, dirty pants!

Folks ignore the fact ours is a shrinking hobby because they can personally get RP, or they've personally helped someone new get into playing (which is great, btw, don't get me wrong) despite how playerlists are becoming shorter and more games shut down than get opened
so
yeah
I don't think people ignore it. I think almost everyone is keenly aware of it, but everyone's influence largely ends at their own game if they are a game owner, and most players feel very little to no ownership over improving the hobby and have limited ability to do so. And I think most people just don't want to spend their fun time policing other people that aren't super over the top problematic, even when those people are intensely alienating to new players not willing to just deal with them.

Because so many games have worked very hard at removing their ability to influence the game.
Kudos to Arx for showing people how to reverse this trend.

@gingerlily I have been MU'ing since 1996, and my best experience so far ever was at The Reach back in 2006-2008? I have had a really hard time getting into a game since TR closed in any significant fashion.

"active" is a very loose phrase. I've checked on the place from time to time, it's mostly idle people.
-
@magee101 The Reach is definitely a top 3 for me. Wing Commander: RH and Shadowrun Detroit (or was it Seattle?) are also up there.

I'm not sure we want to go down a rabbit hole of debating whether games are active. I think if the owners feel it qualifies, we leave it at that, whether it has 6 players or 600.
-
@apos Yes, I think "open" is a better criteria than "active". Players can judge for themselves if a game is active enough for their tastes.

As @faraday says. You could have a playerbase of 6000000 players, if over 50% of them idled consistently I would probably still call that place active. DoD has like 15-20 connected (which I know from playing there previously that most of those connections are alts of players) of which most are idling for hours if not days. Sure it is open, but not active
-
I have to side with Apos and Faraday, open to the public should be enough to be listed, after all once we get to debates on what counts as active it brings in a whole lot of subjectivity and at times bizarre logic. (Someone once flipped out on me because i referred to the Reach as active when it had over 100 players on an average night because they weren't finding the type of activity they wanted.)
-
Yeah, just to be clear active is defined as people logged in and the idle times listed aren't hours or days. If people are using idle timers vs. actually doing something, I wasn't going to go that deep with it.
For one because that's kind of invasive and a little creepy, I feel-- I don't want to micromanage what counts for activity beyond that level. And for another, 98% of the games on this list I do not play so I cannot substantiate what passes for actual activity on the culture of the game in question. ETA: If players of a particular game let me know that 'this place is a ghost ship with nothing going on' then I'll take it down unless there's some reason to believe that publicity of its existence my re-invigorate life back into it. Most of the time, though; when things are that far gone-- the game is over, even if the lights are technically on still.
I have been a little neglectful of updates lately. I'll have another edit done by the end of the weekend.

Activity comes and goes. The game has players playing, has a solid codebase and CG, and has active staffers. I'm not going to say it's huge, but it offers what it offers.
If you want early rebellion legends style and like SAGA edition, DoD is a good place to play.

Turiel, DnD 5e MUSH

We still updating this list?
Chontio: A Star Wars MUSH http://chontio.aresmush.com/
Star Wars, FFG Star Wars RPG system, AresMUSH

Really needs an update; many of these games are closed/gone.

@coin I'd be happy to set up a wiki on MSB's host if anyone wants to maintain it (whether it's @GangOfDolls or someone else).
-
@arkandel I can do updates and such... dead/running, copy/paste of ads... but any fancy wikicode will have to be done by someone competant.
