Tell me in the comments what you like to see as far as code when you log onto a mux for the first time. Things like +Weather. Things that add to the element or make the character that you want to create easier to play.
-
What kind of game?
99.9995% of the people like phone talk/texting functionality.
I like complete news files and simple chargen. The simpler the better.
Other than that, pour all your effort in making people feel welcome and included with things to do.
-
A +where that is as condensed as possible, such that it says like, <Room Name> - <Everyone In The Room>
A +hangouts list which you can +go to named or numbered hangouts from
A +join/+summon that doesn't make me do a dance to wait for everyone I wanna summon to go IC first. Have the act of +joining someone IC make you IC.
+temprooms
Tie all my alts together somehow and then do things like track if a bbs message is read or not globally.
Posebreak! -
- +roll/+check/etc. code that follows logical consistency. I'm finding it hard to think of an example where it doesn't, but I know I've seen games where it doesn't, and I'm looking up the helpfile every time to do a simple +roll.
- @mail code where it gives you a preview/write-as-you-go instead of forcing you to construct the message in one shot.
- Breadcrumbs in helpfiles. +help main --> +help main/subtopic. If you file everything as top-level topics, then it makes it impossible to find it unless the person knows just what to look for.
- A +census command for WoD games or others where there are different distinct roles. I know there's some debate over this, and recognize the validity of people's opinions who hate it. However, as someone who likes filling in the gaps with my characters, this passive information is much less awkward for me than asking 'So, what do you need?' on guestchan.

+where/ic

@mail allows you to write as you go.
@mail person=subject
-A line of text.
-Append some text.
@mail/proof (I think; doing this on phone on the fly)
--
And sent. If you’ve been using the one line only version all this then me I’m sorry.
-
@thenomain Sounds like he's @fortydeuce plays Penn games, which only have a one line version.
-
@ixokai Nope, Arx, but same thing.
@mail - lists all mail in player's mailbox
@mail # - read mail by the given number
@mail/raw # - read mail by given number without ansi evaluation
@mail/quick [<player>[,<player2,...]/<subject>=<message>
@mail/org <org name>/<subject>=<message>
@mail/delete # - deletes mail by given number -
@fortydeuce Oh! I never think of Arx as a mush in the context of code questions so never thought of that. Gotcha
-
@ixokai No prob! But yeah, I find not being able to use the Penn/Tiny/Brandy @mail invoker with the -newlines forever annoying. I'd put in a +request, but it's a) not annoying enough to request and b) probably somethng that would require recoding the @mail from scratch, and @Tehom and NV get enough code +requests from me that I feel I'd make their brains explode if I put this in.
-
I’m just going to ping @Griatch and wait. (Not the only Evennia coder, but The Evennia Guy.)
-
Piggybackin. Has there been a +help/search <Tupac>?
Edit. Fuck it. Keepin that typo. ^topic
-
@shincashay
Sometimes. There is one in Evennia base but I’ll be honest, it’s pretty bad.
-
I think the
@mail
in Arx is their own design and not the one from Evennia's contribs. But it's good with input on things at any rate!As for the
help
bag-of-words search, yeah it's pretty primitive and it shows with a larger help suite. I've not had time to work on the help system in base Evennia since it was originally created many moons ago - it's one of the older parts of the code base. Do consider making a Feature Request with the changes/features you'd like to see so it's not forgotten and is tracked properly.

@shincashay If you're curious...
No help entry found for 'tupac'
Suggested: put, autoattack, +autoattack, @spectate_combat, Compact
-
Make it so that +help works with either who or +who. I hate hate hate when I have to put a + in front of every help topic.
-
@tnp I agree on this one heartily.
Though in all sincerity, I'd love to see an all around revision of the various +help help +shelp +help bb (and the list just goes on and on) commands for MUX. We are really at the point at which a game needs a +help file just to list where all the other variants of +help and what they cover are.
-
Don't forget jhelp!
-
Maybe just keywords then. +help fight and then Clippy appears.
Did you mean +help combat?
Naw for reals just aliases that pull up the same thing.
