Hello Fellow Hyperfocused Fuckers,
Have y'all ever...ding'd?
-
I sometimes get so annoyed at clients flashing and showing notifications and and and and and....
I just shut it all the fuck down. I close everything. I don't put it on DND. I don't ask people to leave me alone. I shut it all down. I log out. I close the programs. I silence it or disable notifications etcetcetc. I don't give a shit if 'Oh but what if that one person....'
Nope. If they're important enough they have my phone number.
I shut it the fuck down when I'm in that mood because I know I will go off on someone and it's best I don't risk it.
-
@HorrorHound Depends on what you mean by ding'd. If you mean 'Have I lost it and gone off on people because they broke my train of though/what I was focused on' then the answer is yes, many times over.
-
Omgomgomgomgomg. So, y'all ready to learn about yourselves?
Ding'd.
You ever hear of Mushin? Flow? Hyperfocus?
Fun fact about those with ADD/ADHD, we exist in a sort of mental stasis until our brains are activated by physical stimuli, and while we may not be neurotypical, we come with some bonuses:
Reaction. Your body ever react without you having to think? More than just muscle memory, kids. In the state of Flow, or Hyperfocus, we react better.
Hyperfocus itself: Able to enter and disengage rapidly and more often than neurotypical folk, those with ADD/ADHD seem unable to dislodge or be dislodged from hyperfocused tasks (for me, this is how I worked ninety hours on a project until my shirt was, quite literally, shredded and so muddied, I wasn't recognized. My crew did not appreciate my inability to stop.)
Time: Time is a funny thing, subjective, relative, but to those of this category, most often it is observed one extreme: Yesterday was an eternity ago, and tomorrow doesn't exist. This elasticity is likely some instinctive seed, still relevant now as it was when this neurotype was a survival strategy.
Sleep: When asleep, our brains are different. Not just a little different, but the C-Wave moves to an entirely different part of the brain. We're not really sure what this means, but it means something. B-B-B-BONUS RRRROUND: During PSG Studies those with ADD/ADHD that goes untreated have a higher percentage of waking at the drop of a hat and dime to the floor.
There is more. It's good shit, kids. Good shit.
So, dinging. Maaaaan, dinging is the best. Y'all ever Ding? That moment, that second, wherein you can feel your brain shift speeds, time stops being relevant at all, people too, and all there is - is the Hyperfoci. That stimuli. Project. Person. Song. Whatever it is that activated the HF, The Flow, and The Ding that rings like a little bell, and it's like you don't think anymore, don't feel, just, Do.
-
@HorrorHound That description of Time is /real/. Yesterday me is dead, today me matters, future me is... unformed
-
My wife says I am a tyrannical hurricane force of chaos that only happens to happen orderly out of sheer, math-bending luck. Emotional triggers are hairs, our difficulty with emotion is instinctive. Reactionary. First person to strike in the fight, last person to understand why we are in trouble. Typical ADD/ADHD tactic to 'fix' a situation?
Burn it all down, start over in the morning.

I hate my ADD days.
Today is one.
Yesterday just sort of flew by at work. I felt like crap. I had nothing to do. But I was able to focus and go and get it done.
Today? I'm jittery and frustrated and even though I'm striving to just.do.things.....nothing is scratching the unfocused itch and I look at the clock after what feels like an eternity and it's.......fifteen minutes.
It feels like a literal ache, like noise at the base of my skull.
-
Here's what I want y'all to do: Find the trigger. The song. The Button. Find what makes you Ding, and fucking train that. People that have written with me have seen when I hit that trance, and pump pages out. Now I do that at work, and pump projects out.
Find your trigger. Make yourself Ding, and everyone knows boxing. Everyone knows what that bell means.
-
@Auspice Or that restless feeling, like you NEED to DO SOMETHING but said something is a Sherlockian fucking mystery and AUGH. Exercise helps, why I swim, so i can push myself and not feels hitty from all the sweat, and scream underwater so no one can hear. And while I swim, its when i get my ideas, when things click, when it all comes together.... until my focus skips again.

The Buzzing Bees, yeah. Use music. Rhythm. Find what makes you get all achey and wanna dance, get up, jump around, get your heart beating hard and then headbutt your job again.

I use Logic, and other speedlyricists. The Rugged Man, and others.
Pay attention to the lyrics, listen to them, keep pace in your head and just. Apply it.

Unfortunately, at my job I can't really. We finally got music approved but it's got to be kept quiet, no lyrics, and stay pretty chill. I do security work in an ops center. I need to listen out for phones and radios.
Overall all the monitors and cameras and such were great for me but I'm still so all over the place that when it's quiet I just sort of still jitter like okay okay okay okay okay okay.....what now??

I used to do ViPSEC. I feel you. I left, I couldn't take the buzz anymore, as well as guarding shitty rich kids.
Bring a pad and start writing, mang.

I actually do just this. I've got about five sheets in front of me right now, lol.
My boss also has about twenty certifications from the training program the company has that I've completed just since the weekend waiting on her desk.

This. Is. The. Worst.
And it seems to be happening to me more and more. It is slowly killing my will to live.
