well I might have remembered to come back and do so but since you complained
-
@Auspice I hope you get haunted by a ghost that excels in Pee Wee Herman impressions.

Adding some on here that I haven't seen yet, though a lot of my staples have already been covered.
NileRed - Adorably geeky guy does chemistry experiments. Starting to drift into the realm of the weird, like can you make moonshine out of toilet paper (yes, yes you can). Does a really good job of showing and explaining the process and why the transformations work.
CGP Grey Fairly complex political and social topics presented in a pretty presentable way.
Vinheteiro A man stares at you uncomfortably while playing the piano.

Griffin and Justin McElroy
Whole damn family is involved in media. I listen to their sister show "Court Appointed."
I listen to MBMBAM, Adventure Zone, Besties, Sawbones, occasionally Wonderful, and, of course, Til Death Do Us Blart.
-
Everyone else's lists look like the programming from NPR and mine is basically "Get drunk and watch people play video games."

I mean, mine has Dope or Nope on it. And kiwami. And HowtoBasic.
I have a couple game-related channels in my subs, but by and far I just can't enjoy watching other people play games. It's not something I've been able to get into.
-
Pierre XO - Avant-garde multi-discipline artist and philosopher. He's thoughtful, well-spoken, and more fair than I could ever be.
Blaire White - My problematic fave - her words. Conservative transgender political commentator. I'm not conservative but I agree with a lot of her stances, plus she's the kind of funny I'm into.
James Charles - Beauty guru with 1000 palettes-worth of personality and charm & I just want him to be happy.
Brad Mondo - Hairstylist and video-reactor & honestly just the loveliest person on Earth.
-
brad mondo is a treasure.
James Charles fast-talk tapdances on every single one of my nerves, but I also want him to be happy at this point. Like who among us did not act like a dumb teen when we were dumb teens, let him fucking live. -
@Kanye-Qwest
I posted mine really quickly and am now going back to read everyone else's entries (I didn't want mine to be influenced by what anyone else posted) and I am lowkey throwing shade your way for Brad not making your list. Contrapoints did though, so I'm half-tempted to go try and sit through one of her videos, but someone I staunchly disagree with on all-the-things swears by her so I feel pre-biased. -
I didn't put Brad on mine because of the personal shame of not watching every video lately. :X
But he is just a gem of a human.
-
Love Mondo and James and Tati - I'm not much for the tea as they call it. People have fall outs all the time, people fuck up all the time, people are stupid all the time. Including youtubers. I have some moments in my past where I'm trying to fall asleep at night and my brain is like "hey you remember that time you.." and I lay here wishing I could curl up under a rock for the rest of my life.
So like, I can't judge too much.
But since we're talking about favorite beauty guru types... I definitely have a few favorites. This one needs a mention!
Now, I don't have African type hair, but I still find her vivacious, funny, and her accent makes me feel happy. And I love how adventurous and just not scared she is. Pure gem.

@nyctophiliac
TatiI checked out Vivianna though, and while her OTT cheerfulness is grating, as someone that spent several hours wrestling my giant afro into its this is a professional & appropriate hairstyle! disguise for a job interview today - I'm subscribing. Thanks for this one. -
Mondo is the only beauty youtuber I still watch. His utter positivity and love for all people of all types is just so heartwarming.

Brad is in my subs, though, he is a literal treasure and a rare bright spot in the world!
Same with BDG from Unraveled. And I really like Contrapoints. Videos aesthetic as hell and not afraid to tackle controversial subjects/opinions with thoughtfulness. She has deradicalized nazis and incels, according to testimonies I've seen, and that's pretty great. Men need help.
My favorite BEAUTY CHANNELS though are lord John Mcclean and Raw Beauty Kristi. I miss Makeupstruggles.
ETA: good luck with the job

This is a very modest list, but I don't have anything hugely profound as to why they're among my favorites as they kind of speak for themselves as to the content:
Music
Two Steps from Hell
Ivan TorrentContent
Liziqi
VeritasiumHonorable Mention (for childhood nostalgia)
Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue -- Saskia has a lot to say on the subject of guinea pigs. I wish I had known even a tenth of what she has demonstrated and/or discussed in her videos about them, especially the taming aspect, when my sibling and I had one as a pet 30ish years ago. -
@Auspice Nope or Dope are good people! I know them! We make the same kinda videos and such.

I kind of love them and would absolutely hang out with them for a day. I just realize that it's like the epitome of junk food for the brain.

Confession time! I really like paranormal junk, it's the reason why I play WOD and of course you know, you got to get your inspiration/fix somewhere right? I'm not big on beauty gurus (though I do watch a couple on occasion especially if I'm looking to buy something I watch reviews), not big on political anything, definitely don't watch any gamers - I don't like video games generally.
But give me aliens, bigfoot, paranormal stuff, ghosts, demons, and conspiracy theories. Give them ALL to me. If there was a PhD in "wtf" I would definitely have it.
So here's some of my favorite weird youtube channels. Please share your weird youtube channels too. I KNOW I am not the only one out there.
General Weird/Horror
DTTV Studios - Sumerians! Ancient Aliens!
Amazing Stock One of those "TOP TENZ" things, but usually curated a little better than the average.
Creeps McPasta* - He narrates fiction, as a pose to presenting "facts" like most of the other channels here.
Strange But True Stories! - Same with this guy, he narrates "true" stories. Great voice to fall asleep to.
Quest TV
Gaia TV Interesting new age channel. Sometimes has juicy interesting tidbits to mentally chew on.Bigfoot
Bob Gymlan He doesn't give much of himself away, but he does profess to be a primatologist. Highly doubt this, but you can look into some interesting bigfoot cases through the lens of someone presenting bigfoot as an undiscovered ape species.
Buckeye Bigfoot Bigfoot stories, nice to fall asleep to.Aliens
Destination Declassified Aliens, top tenz style with a british accent.
LA Marzulli LA Marzulli is LA Marzulli. I have based more than one character of mine on him and his ilk - someone sitting out there with conspiracy theories that seem a little stretched in the middle of the desert broadcasting from the inside of some camper. I mean I don't think he's in a camper, I think he has a studio room in a house but pretty much the same thing. Adore it. Interesting interviews sometimes.
UFO Stop It's your one stop for UFO stuff. Not necessarily like, the freshest (go 90s alien tv!) but it's my staple type of entertainment.Crime
That Chapter - Okay, bit sized crime stories but also paranormal junk very rarely. Irish accent is adorable. -
@nyctophiliac So, when I see someone say they don't like video games, I go into full-on panic mode of 'I must fix this disturbance in the force.' Have you ever checked out Secret World Legends? It's free to play now so there's no monetary commitment to try it. But you play someone that's been inducted into one of 3 secret societies and you work your way through this massive, globetrotting collection of conspiracies involving aliens, supernatural creatures, ghosts, paranormal stuff, etc. with some amazing writing and quests that sometimes require you to do some paranormal investigation online/off-game as well (there's a working in-game browser too). From tentacle monsters to haunted carnivals to cursed Native American burial grounds and yes, even Bigfoot, Secret World Legends has it all.
