As a comment in general, though: something can be great and still not do it for you; and some things can be awful and still entertain certain people.

      This is very true.

Yeah, but that's just you projecting your own insecurities because that's how you deal with the cold, you fucking Norse weirdo.

P.S. Jesus fucking Christ, you're right--decade and a half. Fuck, dude. Just fuck that is a long time.

By the way, what do people think about Stranger Things? I just caught the first episode. Blast from Seven Spielberg style 80s sci-fi past, eh? Im gonna have to try the second episode.

Enjoyed it very much. I found it less Spielberg than Stephen King as it went along (though Spielberg is definitely also an influence). It's definitely a pastiche, but not the bad kind, at least not for me. It uses familiar touch-points to tell its own story.

Finally started 'The Night Of' this weekend. I may be caught up before the finale. First impression: Naz is a moron, but it's engrossing through the first three.

Yeah, I'll have to agree now that I've gotten through most of it. Definitively went towards the horror. Looking forward to seeing how it ends.

So finally finished Stranger Things. I loved it! Looking forward to next season.

I tried to watch the first episode of Night Of, but I realized I just wasn't in the mood for another depressing crime story.

Huh. I am cautiously optimistic. Legion's not my favorite character in any form, though.

I'm not trying to say that Mr. Robot is the best show of the summer, but there aren't any better summer shows.

Full disclosure, I am NOT someone who generally is aware of things that make TV great - costume design, sound editing, cinematography, shot composition, score, etc.

I notice these things in Mr. Robot. More than any other show I can recall, this show captures its atmosphere and mood superbly and with a tense sense of foreboding I can't escape.

Also, the acting is top notch.

The creator is also directing every episode this season, which is super rare in TV (can't recall if this was the case with the first season or not, though I don't think so). I feel like this is part of what gives it such a strong sense of atmosphere.

I've got mixed feelings about this season. Elliot's big reveal about where he really was felt like an enormous and insulting waste of time of time considering how many episodes they dedicated to it, it was almost enough to make me give up on the show...but goddamn do they know how to hook you back in.

I really appreciated the sheer weirdness of this week's episode, I was really missing that aspect of the show from last season.

I really dug S1 of Mr. Robot. I couldn't get through S2E1, though. I found it painfully boring. I came back in at episode 5 and was very pleased. Then went back to E2 and loved it, and I've enjoyed the subsequent episodes. Still can't bring myself to revisit E1.

I'm kind of wondering about the SPOILERS theories floating around. I'm boggled people were predicting such back in S1. I must really suck at subtext. On paper, it makes me feel a bit twitchy, but Esmail might be able to pull it off.

Speaking of Mr. Robot, Rami Malek picked up a best actor in a drama Emmy win last night.

Has anyone been watching The Librarians? I had no idea this was a thing until a random Hulu recommendation, but I just finished the first season and I am loving the hell out of it. It's a little campy (OK, pretty campy) but has such a positive, upbeat, pulpy feel that is super refreshing to me after all the other grimdark supernatural shows out there.

@Wizz I watched the first episode but it seemed... well, I didn't like it, to be honest. It was too cheesy for me.

@Arkandel I almost stopped there too, the two-part pilot is definitely super cheesy (its roots are a made-for-TV movie trilogy), but give it a couple more episodes and the writing, acting, and production values all noticeably bump up.
