I just learned that the Colombian national sport involves throwing metal disks at gunpower: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqKzt0XbWQk
........I'm just waiting for this to make its way to the US. I want it now.
"Whenever you explode them, you just yell and drink."
Perfect.Man, wait until you find out my country's official national sport.
where's the explosions tho
you don't need explosions when you're tossing live ducks around. >.>
but you don't use a duck anymore.
My sister lives waaaaay the fuck in the South and lemme tell you, you probably shouldn't believe everything you read on wikipedia.
I mean, not that I support it, buuuuuut.
i'm not gonna bring the wrath of PETA down on MSB

Proof humanity has gone down in value since I was a kid.
At the grocery store:
STUFF IN LOCKUP (Need a clerk to get for you by using keys) circa 1985: Cigarettes. The top shelf booze. The rug cleaning machine.
STUFF IN LOCKUP CIRCA 2019, additions: Baby formula, condoms, pregnancy tests, baby formula, Tide pods.
Saw this last night at the grocery store. Wtflol.
-
People steal the hell out of that stuff. When I worked part-time at a Dollar General last year, baby things, including formula and diapers, Tide and tampons were among the items most often stolen. I swear it's like some people would rather steal the essentials so they have more money to spend on cheap booze and crack.
-
Or they just can't afford the essentials, hard stop.
-
@Darren See, that reads to me more like people were the most desperate for essentials they absolutely needed that they'd end up stealing if they didn't have another way.

Turkey has the best national sport ever.

Diwali at work today. One of my favorite times of the year.
My Indian brothers and sisters bring out all the foods, the smells, the music, the dancing, and the fashion of India and my PurpleStateKnownForRacism office embraces the fuck out of it. I got a lot of cool people and cowboy as fuck execs walking around in Indian finery with their third eyes marked.
Diwali is such a cool holiday.

Follow up. Just listened to an Indian guy make "kind of" cultural appropriation jokes about white people wearing Indian garb (that was either sent from Indian employees to those specific employees or brought back from India as gifts).
By "kind of" I mean those jokes where someone says stuff like "hahaha you ruin everything JUST KIDDING HAHAHA you were adopted JustKidding"
Sigh. I hope this doesn't become a thing. Time will tell if the guy was just joking but the people on that conference call who got "kind of" joked at sure got off that call awkwardly.

But for real, now I need Untitled Pato Game. Or Pato played with Untitled Goose.
-
Man, I hated that pregnancy tests got locked up. Dealing with infertility was hard enough when I could do it quietly, but having to look at someone and ASK for a test when my hopes got up was like a knife to the chest.
-
@silverfox Or when you are a teenage girl who's already being shamed for having sex and now this. Or really anyone. I'm a grown ass woman and I still get looks when I buy condoms.

(Double Post - Not Sorry)
So this is probably a lame thing, but still. I've been so out of sorts RL. I'm not going to bore with details. I took off the entire weekend paid to just have time off. I woke up today. Then I proceeded to clean the house and make dinner, etc. I got so much done and I just feel really accomplished outside of my work life. It's been awhile since I felt like that. So RL thing I love today.

so to balance the 'ugh presentations' in the other thread:
I wore my Destiny 2 hoodie the other day and a coworker recognized it, so we chatted about the game some (tho I haven't played after hitting some burnout last spring).
Today I was the first one to a meeting, dialed in, was working away at my presentation. He walked in and began chatting at me all excited about an exotic he got last night.
We didn't notice when someone called in to the conference line until the "Uhhhh, guys?"
I think he's excited/happy to have someone to chat about Destiny with at work and it's kinda nice (for me) to have someone to talk to about non-work things. Helps me feel a little more integrated.

Costume geeks? You owe it to yourselves.

I changed the formative assessment on the module I just inherited. I took it from a submitted piece of work to an in-class discussion of their planned essay. Students emailed me to tell me they loved it and wish all units would!

Can I just say I wanna see more posts like this as I start trying to think about having to do things along these lines?

I'm happy to brainstorm but I bought books to figure some shit out. Any by the thesis whisper are great. I'm also going to do a poster presentation to help them build up to a case study. They just have to present the facts of the case in the poster, and then do more analysis and in-depth work for the case study.
For the research module, we're using the recent footballers' wives drama as a dissertation example, and I'm doing exercises like "tweet the paper" and giving them a paper with no title or abstract, asking them to write those. There is also the peanut butter and jelly sandwich instructions to illustrate how much data to expect within a methods chapter...
I am using juggling on friday to demostrate health behaviour theory

When an employee (that I don't rely on) gives their 2 week notice and clearly gives no fucks.
Never. Not. Entertaining.
-
This dude sitting in front of me at this book signing stole his seat from someone who had to step away and was kind of a douche about it.
Including dragging it forward / out of line from everyone else (he's clearly soooooooo important). But every time I have a coughing fit (into my scarf mind you because even tho it's asthma I know how people might feel) he leans forward and hunches and looks super uncomfortable so ha ha fuck you buddy.
-
That feeling when you've been sick for over a week and been unable to do much at all in the house, and then suddenly you're feeling just fine again and you deep clean the bathroom and then have a shower in the sparkly clean place.
Satisfaction.
