Instead of fighting for prestige it will be fighting for money to avoid crippling student debt

It's true. He was 22. Apparently no one believed him (it's hard to imagine that he is over 20 if you rewatch the movie).

All the graduation ceremonies--including @TheOnceler who graduated yesterday! There's just something so wonderful about seeing all the proud families and the beaming graduates around at this time of year. It's incredibly fulfilling to be able to recognize the names of people called across the stage every year--your teachers remember you! And we're so happy to see you reaching these milestones.

I can't even complain about the extra traffic this time of year causes cause everyone is just so happy!

My country's Congress just passed the law to depenalize abortions--they are currently voting article by article. after that, it swings to the senate and we see if they disappoint or not. Huge step forward.

Ghost BC will be on tour here in Austin in November.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow, when I'll have money and be able to get one.

That stack of four boxes in my work room I have been whining at my husband to haul out of the house are now out of the house after three years of very noisy whining.

...two more stacks to go, one to Goodwill and the other to 'I don't care so long as it isn't here, goddammit'.

                                  Oh fucking well.

                                      So random, so dorky.

The husband and I collect (usually) totally worthless rocks at a local(ish) beach whenever we need a day of Not In The Fucking House.

There are rocks... every-fucking-where. Or were. They live in buckets outside now, for the most part, but the fuckers were building up again.

Years ago, we got a tumbler to polish some of the little fuckers. Yay. We got a second one for a different process, but it's huge and by the time it arrived, depression had whacked me hard upside the head and while we set it up enough to see that it worked, the other one had turned to concrete, full of stuff we really liked, now a waste of money and favorite rocks, so both were mostly useless.

I caved and ordered a replacement two weeks ago. It now has a place to live, it works, it's running with a pile of stuff. The holy shit big one has a place to live, too, and is no longer worthless provided it didn't break somehow after a few years hiding in the hall closet, and we might eventually get through the 'yard art buckets'. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it.)

On a lark, I tried to see if I could pry open the old concrete one. No joy. Tried again this morning with the steel scrubber brushes and a wrench -- and got it. It wasn't actually concrete! Odds are good what was in it and partly done can be salvaged (which is happy-making because it was the best of our best stuff from back before the buckets went to live outside), even if we lose a few to the concrete-fu.

We might even be able to get the machine to work. Unlikely, but possible. One part will absolutely need to be replaced, but that's still a big plus if I can scrub the rest of the rust off the fucker, which seems entirely feasible.

Either way, I have been scrubbing and wrenching and getting drenched and sneezing through the worst dust ever and running out to get hoses and sprayers since 5am and...

                                      ...exhausted is good.

Exhausted and having recovered something we thought was a goner, no matter how trivial, is kinda awesome right now.

                                      Oh fucking well.

Bad News: My shower cartridge is crapping out. Again. Which is super, super annoying.

Good News: Thanks to my plumber fixing something else in our shower in March, I've discovered that instead of paying $47 in parts every time this happens, I can call Moen and sit through their ridiculously long hold time to bitch about their guarantee and get free replacement parts. In a single day if I pay for the super expedited shipping, which is still less than half the price of buying the part at the store.

Thank you, plumber! You just saved me $30-something again.

Update: the old machine still runs! Yay! So for $64, I can have another machine up and running. (It's a machine that costs between $230-$400, too, so... not a bad deal there!)

                                            I love my doctor's office.

I was born with a fairly rare condition. And for most of my life, post-pediatricians, the reaction when I name this condition has been:
                                            I don't believe you

even when the scars on my abdomen are in full view. Because the condition is rare enough that you pretty much have to be in obstetrics or pediatrics to have ever dealt with it (or in the case of a gastroenterologist I once met: served as a pediatric surgeon). So many doctors would just think I made up some "medical sounding word" because they knew "everything." There were times this caused severe health problems for me over the years.

So it is a fucking gem in my world when a doctor is willing to hear more about it or is even willing to research it themselves. Those are the true healers, y'know? The ones who know it's impossible to know it all. The ones who acknowledge they are specialists in their field.

The condition I was born with, I only survived because I was born in the exact right place. The surgeon was pioneering ways to save kids born with the condition. He wrote papers on me. I have never met anyone born with it. The closest is I once spoke to someone who had a younger cousin born with it. I've searched online before and the closest I've found is mommy forums with threads and I think the oldest kid on one of those was like, 10.

Anyway. My doctor's office. My doctor, when I went in yesterday, was fascinated to hear about it, wanted to get the name right, and was like 'I have homework to do.' I didn't get my usual doctor (since it was an emergency visit), but my usual doc is even amazing. Like, one of the sweetest people ever. The whole place is lovely. I usually do not like going to the doctor because it makes me uncomfortable to be touched, undressed in a weird place, etc etc... But this office is just... it's welcoming, everyone is so nice and understanding. It deserves the high ratings it has.

They even have an online portal setup so they can do follow-ups at home to check on progress of meds or so you can ask questions that way you don't have to trek back in which everyone knows is a hassle. They basically have figured out this doctor office shit.
