Gauging Interest in a new Erotic RP MU* (with anonymous survey)

@SeriousSirius I mean, ain't many people openly describing how hot they are, groping, or participating in lewd acts during the course of an otherwise normal character/story scene as far as I know.
-
@SquirrelTalk So this is more about openness, then? Because I find it hard to believe that people don't just do whatever they want to do in private. The ones who like fading will fade, the ones who don't won't, etc.
-
@SeriousSirius Well we ARE talking about erotic themed games versus 'normal' ones, which means that lewdness is an open part - or even a goal - of most RP whether or not staff is running plots or whatever. I'm basically talking about an environment where lewd stuff is happening even outside of a traditional TS; things happening matter of factly rather than the minute detail and focus TS scenes tend to ask for. I may be playing on the wrong superhero games, but you don't tend to see people casually pose the way their ass is swaying as they walk, and how shapely it is, in a normal scene.
At least I THINK we're talking about that sort of game/environment? Even if not with superheroes, that's just my hangup.

There's a difference between "this is a game about [supernatural horrors / superheroes / space marines / star wars / etc.], where people in private do whatever they want" and "this is a game with an explicitly sexual theme".
I feel it's pretty clear.
-
@SquirrelTalk Yeah, I get it, I get it.
@Coin While there's some people who still choose to represent their character concepts this way regardless of the medium, I understand.
That's not why I ask, however. My point is, without the added interest of these compelling tools of storytelling (Starwars/W40K/Sci-Fi), what'll make people stay if they can already do all of the dirty bidness in these games with added concepts? Like, what's the true incentive to JUST writing erotica when there's no real overarching story?
Although I guess it's a slice of life kind of thing, and OP did bring mention to some supernatural topics, so my point's entirely moot now that I think about it.

People like sex.
Also, sex games are -- extremely popular.
-
@SeriousSirius I guess that's kind of what I was suggesting, is a game that's run like a Superhero/Star Wars game with plots being run by staff and players and whatnot, but also everything is/can be perverted as hell. But also actual stories, action and character development could conceivably happen.
I can think of a few reasons that it would fall apart, but it'd still be an interesting experiment. Probably better suited to weirdly ambitious fanfiction though.

@Roz Yeah but, in MU*, you can fuck anywhere. In private, yes, but the added result's the same, everyone's doing their thing either way. When the whole of the platform becomes JUST that, it feels like it's taking options from players more-so than giving them.
You could make the argument that every MU* is a sex game, where everyone pretends to be some famous sex symbol living out a personality of their choosing with flaws and vices and things as they'd like to do the things they want to do in whatever environment they choose.
@SquirrelTalk What you're saying makes a lot of sense to me though. It does allow the whole sexualization to take a more... superlative approach in the sense that it'd become the main story. The thing. The tether that joins everyone together, like a big orgy of sexual nomenclature.
This is already starting to feel like a hit.
-
@SeriousSirius It's not really the same. Like, if you go on a sex game and compare it to a non-sex game, it's really not the same. It just isn't. There is a just -- a very distinct difference when the actual point of a game is the sex. As opposed to sex being a side thing a certain percentage of the game enjoys pursuing.
-
@Roz I'll deeeefinitively agree the atmosphere's probably different. I've never been in one, not really, so I can't say for sure. It's probably something like, the gloves coming off, right? Lol, I don't know how else to put it.

I'm mildly curious.. Have you ever played on a place like Shangrila? OR a sexmu* that is 99% about getting laid? Serious questions. The way you speak makes me think not.
Because on games like Arx or WoD ones or what have you sex happens but it is generally not encouraged to bang every which way on everything in the street with basically no consequences.

Exactly. To put it another way...
On a Superhero MU: two characters have sex, it's a secondary aspect to the superhero stuff.
On an ERP superhero MU: characters are empowered by 'sexual energy'/orgone/other, where they need to have sexual release to recharge themselves; it's a core premise of the world and central to the superheroics.
-
To me, the difference is something like this...
A non-erotic game set in mythic Greece: You and your RP partner bring your characters into a scene. You play the owner of a brothel and your partner plays one of his brides. You're both fully clothed, there's no talk about sex, you might hold hands but there's no overt signs of affection otherwise.
An erotic game set in mythic Greece: You pose your character entering with your RP partner on one arm and a prized companion on the other. Both are topless with graphic depictions of their breasts in their @descs and possible links to NSFW images.
Same game, same theme, but in one sex is just a part of life. That's how I see it anyway.
-
@Runescryer I didn't necessarily mean anything quite THAT overt, just allowing lewdness to be kind of a rampant component/underlying ever present element. Or at least permitted and encouraged. People being deeply inappropriate together while an exasperated third party tries to convey plot information to one of them, etc.
It's not perfectly thought out, obviously.
Though yours is another valid avenue.
The funny thing is, a lot of scenes would probably still fade to black to make room for a more focused TS scene later, but less detailed lewdness or casual touching/exposure could be an element in 'normal' scenes. Just needlessly sexy even when it's not the focus.

If I make a werewolf on a WoD MU, I'm playing a werewolf. Sure, there may be kinky shenanigans going on, but there might not; who knows?
If I make a werewolf on an Erotic MU, I'm definitely planning on doing kinky things with the shapeshifting and the biting and the grrrr, alpha wolf, grrr.
There's a very clear veneer that colors every intention.
It's the difference between the pizza delivery boy arriving at a sorority house in a PG-13 movie and getting macked on by a few hotties (he gets macked on, but the movie goes on with either his story or the sorority's); and the pizza delivery guy arriving at a sorority house in a porn film and getting into an orgy (the orgy is the movie; that's the point). It doesn't matter if in both stories the pizza delivery guy gets sacrificed to Cthulhu in the end -- the tone and point of the scene/movie is different.
-
@SquirrelTalk Right. And I wasn't advocating that you were going for something that vert. My point was more to show how erotic/sexual themes can be baked into a central theme, rather than be a secondary thing that players happen to do.

What.

I thought your point was compelling and exactly what everyone needed to hear.
Possible pelagic horrors aside.

I hope that's the styling of all your poses.
GRRR.
