Getting Involved (and getting other people involved)

Do you mind if I lift your every-player-is-an-ST post and mod it a touch to stick it on my game's wiki/newsfiles stuff?

Generally speaking, and I stress generally, when a player becomes ST and runs a scene, their character is either not involved at all or is used as an NPC to spur the action along. This varies depending on the game culture WoD vs supers vs whatever but I think that /generally/ that's often the case.
As to what an ST is, it's the GM. The DM. The guy who comes up with a plot, either long term or one off, and runs it for other players. It can either be planned in detail or completely spur of the moment. It can be a backyard barbecue, a bank robbery or an invasion of aliens. The barbecue could be purely social or be invaded by aliens. The bank robbery could be over in a round and move on to pure social to give the heroes the opportunity to meet each other.
It can literally be anything the fits the setting. And anyone can do it. That's why things like OOC Rooms and OOC channels are so important. They let players coordinate these things and get them going.

Enjoy, @il-volpe.No skin off my nose. The more who push it, the better.

Sadly, yes, some will. Or, and this has been my experience, escalate /insanely/. Like, "pose random NPC on public street being kinda a dick, so Other PC pulls out every supernatural power they have to curbstomp NPC into the pavement for no goddamned reason". Or one random scene where I had my PC in a bookstore, asking about a random book. NPC said, "Sorry, dude, already sold," so the other PC decides to try and turn it into a graphic torture scene to figure out where the book went.
Ahhhahaha. Part of my fear of STing is stuff like this. I've heard so many horror stories.

@Silver I will admit sometimes I'd love to RP, but I don't know the fuck's going on!
But really I think at times my desire not to stand around and chat makes me something of a pariah. I should probably take a cue from you and fuck with people's heads a little more.
@Pyrephox: The LARP circles around here call it the Cigarette Test and it's usually used to critique storytellers, but it can be used on players too.
"I went to get a pack of camels. A cabal of Assamites jumped out from behind the 7/11 and tried to bushwhack me." "Man, he failed the cigarette test."

I'll be fair: it doesn't happen often. A lot of the time, people that you ST for are very pleasant, fun, and totally cool to run things for. That's one of the reasons I keep doing it! I love to see how players react to what I put out there - it's usually not what I expect, and in good ways.
