That person may not have ever had a one-on-one with him. In the lectures he's a bit brusque and intense, but not cruel.

@auspice There are a bunch of people, sadly, who will flick the cruelty switch on when it's less likely a record of their behavior will be available, as it would with notes. (Same goes for when there are other witnesses.)
The more generous side of my brain hopes they just don't realize, in the moment, when talking, how horrible they sound/are coming across, when they would potentially edit or moderate themselves better in text.
That side of my brain is the one I call 'sucker' and let Spider stay here for months, so apply the appropriate volume of salt to that you feel might be warranted.

Student, forcing back in: "I am asking a specific question for a scenario and you're not giving me an answer."This after the instructor tried to demand he stop asking and ask him outside of the class. The guy is trying to find out if he'd be marked off for writing something a specific way (re: formatting). And the only answer he's getting is 'Write it how you want.'
This guy takes mansplaining to the extreme, I swear. Listening to the Q&A part of the class now and he's just over-explaining and talking to everyone like they're children.

Yep. Contact the guy getting interrupted and go to the professor's department head. Specifically mention to them that even your adviser acknowledged having received multiple complaints. If it was in writing, even better.
Be forewarned: If the asshole has tenure, it's much harder to do something. Not impossible, but harder. If he's an adjunct or associate professor or trying for a tenure track job? A long history of complaints is going to be problematic for him.

After several months of waiting for a visa response from immigration, I get an email that says a decision has been made.
...But the email doesn't say what that decision is. So now my ulcer is lighting me on fire as I sit and stew and can do nothing but stress and worry all weekend while waiting for them to send me my documents next week. This is cruel and unusual.

Heard back from one classmate I reached out to. The prof. was belittling and condescending to him in the written feedback (he didn't do a phone conference) and pulled a similar move of 'I'm being really generous with your grade' as he did me.
Thankfully for me it resulted in a 72. For this guy, it was a 38... So that line is just even more cruel.
And like me, the classmate has zero drive or will for the class anymore. He sent a scathing letter (that he shared with me) back to the instructor. But if he (he's ex-Navy) is that upset, I feel more justified in my own anger.

@auspice It's a relief to hear that you aren't being singled out but it really sucks that this professor is being like that. I'm sorry. Sounds a lot like he's just fucking averse to his goddamn job.

Speaking as an education professional, not at the same level as the instructor in question but with marginally better people skills, I shall say this: YOU DO NOT OWN TIME OUTSIDE OF REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS OR THE HOURS OF YOUR INSTITUTION. YOU DO NOT GET TO MAKE DEMANDS OF PEOPLE THAT FORCE THEM TO FIT YOUR SCHEDULE OVER THEIRS OUTSIDE OF AFOREMENTIONED OPERATING HOURS. PEOPLE HAVE LIVES, YOU BRAINDEAD SCUM-SUCKING ASSMAGGOT.
It's only half-midnight here, but I think our intent is the same.

@Tinuviel I feel this completely weird situation in my mind, breaking it.
In one thread we are disagreeing on what is essentially people's claim on the 'boss's time. In this thread we are agreeing that they can fuck off and die.
Both thoughts exist, and coexist, in my head, and its fine. Its just the discussion of both simultaneously which makes me wanna reboot.

I know there are people out there who will insist womens' restrooms are always worse, but I worked at a bowling alley for about six months. I had to clean both.
The mens' room was always, always worse.
I work in a bar. 2 male stalls, 2 female stalls.
I'd clean the men ones any given day, as they never had a single issue.
The female ones have been: broken (removed the toilet bowl from the floor), puked, bio plastered, I've had to call the owner (female) to remove a comatose client, the lock was broken in twice (from the inside, drunk people forget how to operate a simple lock).
My 2 employees and me agree that the women's room is always worse.
Again, YMMV.

When I was in my late teens, I was a shift manager at Roy Rogers. Cleaning the customer bathrooms was a normal part of my close routine, so I got to see the difference first hand. The women's bathrooms were always much worse than the men's. There would be hair stuck to damned near everything, the sink, commode, walls, you name it. There would be bits of tissue paper everywhere, discarded wrappers from mysterious feminine products I couldn't begin to guess the purpose on the stall floors. The most I had to worry about with the men's room, was 'poor aim' and then the mess was isolated and easier to clean.

Maybe it's a 'men in bowling alleys' thing because at my job... they ignored the urinals and just sort of treated the floor like a trough. Like, mopping wasn't needed just for the general cleaning of the floor.
And there were a decent number of women who would bowl, but I never had a majorly bad mess to clean. Maybe I was just lucky over those months.
Though nothing, nothing is as bad as the day I was cleaning and found an ash tray (we had one night a week they could smoke in the place; worst night I'd work... could barely breath for how bad the smoke would get) on top of a vending machine.
I'm short. Had to stand on my toes to reach it. The thing tipped onto me and it was... spit, from chaw.
At least most of the guys were 'kind' enough to spit into empty soda bottles and leave those for us to clean up. Whatever asshole did that decided an ash tray left on a vending machine was the way to go.

My worst experience to date involved an elderly man who rushed into the shop I work in now in desperate need of a bathroom. I let him use our employee bathroom, and had no idea that anything was wrong until I had to use the bathroom myself a few hours later. That's when I discovered the mess. It was like a crap bomb had exploded a few feet above the commode. I swear to God, it was like those pictures of the Tunguska Blast in Russia, only with crap instead of trees. I figure he cut things a bit too close and lost control before he was able to sit down. You'd think he would have had the common decency to say something to alert me to the problem on his way out but I as I recall, he left the store without even saying "thank you". To this day I have not let another customer use the employee restroom.

I'm angry right now. But it's that impotent rage of feeling so useless.
Both my partner and I suffer from bipolar disorder, and they are stuck in the deepest pit of despair I've ever seen them in. They're also 'home' in America (yay visa problems) while I'm at our home in Australia.I hate being useless. I hate too that I'm more concerned with my own uselessness than anything else.
I just want this cycle to end.
