Kinds of Mu*s Wanted

The Witcher 3 was probably the best game that's come out the last 2-3 years, as far as I'm concerned. It's so good, and it's enormous, you can play forever. It's a true successor to Skyrim in that way.
I'm taking a break because it's so huge. At first, rising in level seems a chore and super slow--now, I'm struggling to complete quests five levels below mine because I sidequested some shit way over my head and managed to do it anyway, so I skyrocketed in level and I'm like--shit! My quests are going to grey!
Those twin wyverns and the Royal Wyvern right after in Velen? I ganked those things when I was like ten levels under them--by splitting them up and judicious use of Quen. Buuuuut that pushed my level so high noqw I'm struggling.
Worth it for the satisfaction, though.

It's better than Skyrim; it has decent voice acting and controls.
I'm still playing it, but I think I'm going to take a bit of a break. The world is so vast that I kind of forget I'm supposed to be doggedly chasing someone down.

Yes. Exactly.

Funny, I have that happen in Fallout 4, and THAT world isn't even that big.
-
I'm still trying to play Witcher 1. If the controls for Witcher 3 are better than Skyrim, then a lot has changed because the control and combat scheme for Witcher 1 is pretty bad. A lot about Witcher 1 has been bad for me, so I can't confirm or deny the desire to play in a game based on it.

Someone unban Cirno so he can talk about the lack of people of color in The Witcher.
-
@tragedyjones, we could talk about it.
It's a thing. It's too bad it's a thing. Unless there are in Witcher 2 or 3, which I haven't played because I want to get through 1 first.

I have played none, but I saw an article addressing it. Apparently the witcher draws heavily on Real World Polish mythology and a Polish series of novels and created by Polish developers. In short, there aren't a lot of POC (Poles of Color).

That explains their combat system. Reverse Polish Combat Mechanics, throwing turn-based (jrpg) combat before the real-time inputs.

I have zero idea how much of that is a joke

I'm having flashbacks of coding Multi-User Forth now, Theno.

Why the fuck would there be people of color in that world? It's clearly full of white people with white problems.

About half. Reverse Polish Notation puts the operators in front of the operator. 1 6 + would return 7.
Witcher 1 combat is about half turn based and half real time. You select your target then you select your attack, but you do it in this kind of messed up real-time manner that makes it partial QTE.
With the word Polish being used, I decided to bring these two concepts together, calling the Witcher combat system an RPN of RPGs.
(Mind you, RPN is a lot closer to how computers think than 1 + 1, but let's not let that get in the way of a bad joke.)

Witcher 3 is vastly improved from Witcher 1 and 2. In the first two games the combat felt like novel experiments that didn't quite work out while in the third it all feels pretty fluent and awesome.

Everyone is talking about the witcher 3's mechanics, but the writing was probably the best thing about it.

I said the same thing on Reno to Pinball about The Last of Us.
-
I don't think anyone is talking about Witcher 3's mechanics, except that they're better than Witcher 1's. As far as I can tell, everyone is saying how awesome Witcher 3's writing is.
(Please note, by "everyone" in both instances I mean one to three people here. I don't know what people are saying about either in other places.)

I want either a Red Rising MUSH or a MUSH based on the Old Man's War universe....
Resurrecting this, I just read the last book in the trilogy and it contains an awful lot of inspirational goodness. Plus, you know, it just topped the New York Times bestseller list along with having a movie in the works and another trilogy planned, so there is presumably a base of people interested in the series.

Yeah, pretty much. In fact I played it on 'easy' I think because I honestly didn't care either way about the mechanics - I wanted to go through the story and the fights were just in the way.
-
@Arkandel I feel this way about Dragon Age. The fighting in that game is so awful.
