Is it reasonable to assume a WoD 3.0 that tries to merge the streamlined functionality of nWoD with the actual-fun-ness of oWoD, then?

That would be the best of all worlds but I don't see it. At least not soon. For one thing they still have cash to milk out of NWoD 2.0 before moving from it.
though there is hope D+D 5th messed what i consider the best qualities of the previous editions so maybe WoD can find that magic as well. -
uWoD (a term I saw for a hypothetical Unified World of Darkness) would probably just fracture fans even further.

As someone who really dug oWoD and could never really get in to any of the nWoD stuff, I'd love to see things moving back towards the former.
I would also pay stupid amounts of money for an oWoD Crusader Kings. I don't know how such a game might work, but I'd still buy it.

One of the main reasons why they shouldn't move back to the former is that they're still putting shit out for the former.
I want them to keep it new, especially if it isn't the same. I mean, man, they're still publishing 20th Anniversary editions for oWoD stuff.

@Coin Not hard at all. Because people want the themes and setups of owod with the more streamlined and easier mechanics of nwod. How is that hard to grasp? What they put out doesn't cover what people want. So yeah, they buy it... then immediately start bitching about how its not exactly what they wanted.

Except there's been translation guides for years now that allow them to play the best part of both systems (and for those things that don't have them, it's painfully simple to do if you're at all motivated).
I like nWoD. I like the differences. It's not a matter of grasping their logic; it's a matter of trying not to roll my eyes at the constant bitching when their solution would effectively take away something other people do like.

I kinda get the feeling you took my response more seriously than intended. It was more a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the growing sense of lazy entitlement that seems to be spreading through the world of consumerism.
There are things I like and dislike about each iteration of WoD that's cropped up from the OG oWoD to the newest GMC stuff.

There hasn't been anything concrete said because they're probably still working out contracts with/for various people. They have a community manager internally for the brand, and OPP is still doing dev announcements. I don't see there being a whole lot of changes, except for maybe consolidating everything under WW again by taking OPP and BNS and just flat-hiring them into the new WW brand.The only way I see changes happening is if they can't hammer out a workable contract regarding OPP and BNS's licenses. I honestly don't see anything changing there and us getting more digital stuff like video games.
ETA: They keep talking about a 'One World of Darkness' and everything I keep reading, to me, seems like that's their design brand for their video games as that is the main company's business model anyway. It looks like they're also going to be pushing LARP books heavily (which is okay by me) and working with BNS (one of the few things they've definitively said about their licensees). Wow if this keeps up WoD edition wars will be almost as amusing as watching people complain about which version of comic continuity is the best.On a less snarky note even though I vasts prefer OWoD to NWoD I two am in the keep publishing both camp. Both are fun in different way and both have issues, but it all depends on the different flavor you want for an individual campaign or MUSH.
