I want a Dark Sun game that isn't a) a MUD or b) house ruled so heavily as to be practically unrecognizable or c) using some weird alternate history theme.

Just straight Dark Sun, at whatever point in the timeline.

This. I used to play the hell out of Armageddon MUD waaaay back in the 90's early oughts. Would love to see a true Dark Sun MUSH to play on now. With work and a kid I AFK for brief moments too much to play on a MUD where perm-death can happen whether you're at the screen or not. 😛

    • RE: How did you discover text-based gaming?

I did some roleplaying in CompuServe's CB Simulator back in the early 90's and played around with Barren Realms Elite and LORD on a local BBS. Once my tiny Iowa town got an ISP I discovered ArmageddonMUD via a place called ISCABBS.

Discovered MUSHing when I was poking around on the web after starting to play VtM in a tabletop group.

@ThatOneDude Is ESO really that good on PS4? I almost picked it up, but grabbed Witcher 3 instead.

Hmm, so maybe add a port of the old door game Trade Wars?

I would play the shit out of this or Barren Realms Elite the MU. Or L.O.R.D. Crap. Now I have to go find a place that still has door games up and running.

@Cirno Ha. I thought GeoCities as well when I saw that site.

Looking at their prices you'd probably be better served going with Digital Ocean like Faraday mentioned, @Lilli. For a dollar more than their lowest priced plan you'd get a VPS to yourself where you can install whatever you need to.

    • RE: Hosting: 10 Things To Know

Pretty decent tips, though I disagree with running SSH on a non-standard port. If somebody wants to try to get in, nmap is going to find it on that other port anyway. Plus moving it to a port above 1024 also takes away the safety net of knowing SSH was properly started by root since any user can start a service above 1024.

Install fail2ban and leave ssh on 22, imo. 🙂

    • V:tM Revised on Humble Bundle

It's not the 20th Anniversary edition (mildly hopeful it gets added later) but you can get nearly every Revised V:tM book for $15 on Humble Bundle right now.

As someone who really dug oWoD and could never really get in to any of the nWoD stuff, I'd love to see things moving back towards the former.

I would also pay stupid amounts of money for an oWoD Crusader Kings. I don't know how such a game might work, but I'd still buy it.

    • RE: Book Recommendations

@tat Can't agree more. The Grisha books are freaking fantastic.

I've owned a copy of the first Stormlight Archive book since it came out and I should really start that up again sometime. I really enjoyed his Mistborn books (especially the wild west ones).

My current recommendation is Mishell Baker's Arcadia Project books. Both books hit me right in the feels, but I enjoyed them anyway.

    • RE: Mac Client Recommendations?

I've been using Atlantis for a bit and for the most part haven't had any issues (spawns are sooooo easy to set up compared to TinyFugue!). Only thing I can't figure out -- assuming it's even possible -- is setting up auto-logging. Am I blind and just not seeing this option anywhere? All I've seen is the open log menu bar option and it appears I have to toggle that myself and set a new file name every time. Which of course just means I don't log anything because I am lazy. 😄

@Auspice said in How to use Potato MU Client:

Not yet. And the 'instructions' (bare as they are) given on the bug report for it by the developer do not work. I've been using Atlantis. 😕

Yeah. I tried those steps as well. Managed to get it to launch but it would then crash as soon as I tried to start doing anything. Looks like I may have to see if I can dig up my old .tfrc files and install TinyFugue.

Anyone managed to get Potato MU running on macOS Sierra? I get a not compatible error when I try to run it. 😕

Ha. I wish. It was CompuServe's version of IRC.
