But there's only so long before I want to control something. Build an empire, start a cult, start a war. Make a name for myself that matters not because it sounds cool, or is attached to power, but through sheer force of will, with no one's permission & on my own schedule.
Write a book. Seriously. Doesn't have to be good.
It's not the same. I write; I have a decent fanfic following & sometimes I get the urge to write something original but it invariably ends up abandoned.
There's something uniquely compelling about writing that involves others; that 'repeating-that-one-line-out-loud-because-it-was-so-clever-and-people-are-ICly-quoting-you' feeling, that 'people-OOCly-paging-you-to-say-'My character can't support your cause but damn that was an amazing proclamation' feeling, that 'people-care-about-this-like-really-care-about-this' feeling.
I don't understand how people can stand to read other people's RP logs for the most part, they aren't as good as a real novel, and only really seem special to me if they involve me in some way. But I have logs from like, way back in Firan days that still make my toes curl with joy.
Geeya being blessed by Soli to not die in childbirth (she died at war instead, but that's irrelevant).
Aldrette being arrested by Nydias for not curtsying to his neonoble wife and subsequently being made HoH.
Aldrette's fiery fight with Ketarus about how she'll never amount to anything, the day before she was named proxy.(Shoutout to Cecilia's player, I might have had my raging issues with Firan's staff but she was good for elevating a woman over the BS men in that damn clan.)
But anyway, logs of someone else doing something else - not interested unless I was there. Maybe I'm just self-centered, or maybe MU writing is less about writing something good and more about writing something that makes you and the people around you feel good.
Books are a different beast altogether, they need to be good or you're wasting your damn time.

@Tinuviel That play made me cry in the theatre, I was mortified.
-
@Tinuviel I sat next to my mother-in-law while watching this play. OMG, was I feeling awkward....
-
@Alamias My mom and all her friends are Broadway people and she took me as a birthday present. I'm not sure which was more awkward; General Butt-Fucking Naked, or one of the cast miming a blowjob while colorfully trash-talking her (I assume friends?) over on the Wicked cast during an intermission.

Tonight was the culmination of a bunch of @investigations and @actions and RP that spanned I dunno how long. A year maybe? A hundred percent worth it and definitely an amazing experience to share with @Darinelle @Snackness @Sparks @Pyrephox
-
I haven't been in an ST'd action-y scene in a while. Been in some that are more sort of casual, 'get into the plot' or info dump-y, but not one that's got ze action. So tonight's scene on Notion was awesome. (As someone put it: all it was missing was a wizard to be D&D-esque)
Especially considering my Caitian was the one that opened the crate of catnip the away team discovered. I'm almost sad that we had to wrap the scene for time on that pose because I'm still giggly imagining the cadets dealing with a stoned El-Tee who just got a face full of DRUGS.

You know what sounds like a fun idea?
Playing a character bit with MPD where the login is shared by 3 players who keep 3 different sets of notes and each prepares their own distinct personality for the character.
You'd log in and ICly people would be like: "Hey, about our text conversation last night..." and you'd be like "Urrrrgh that was Jared uhmmm..."
Or your character wakes up in bed with some gorgeous other player in the bed.
"Good morning."
"Ohhhh hey...good morning..."
"Janet."
"JANET right..." -

"JANET right..."I actually discussed this as a lol concept years ago. MAYBE EVEN WITH YOU.

@Ghost I used to play half of a character with a very good friend who played the other half. We came up with the metaphysics and the background to fit the setting, we both had access to the bit, and when we were both online at the same time we'd make creative use of code so the two souls sharing the body could communicate internally and either one of us could communicate externally.
It was an absolute /hoot/, but it takes one hell of a lot of trust to make it work.

That sounds fun as hell. Especially if you compartmentalize what one knows vs the other. I'd have totally been in on an idea like that.

Taking the "parent character" thing here.
How fucking LULz would it be if there was a character who was a new dad and was tired all of the time, but during some kind of vampire hunt it led to a strip club. The hunters want to go in and pose as customers to find the vampires.
"No. No. OOOOH no. The last time I did this I had to sleep on my couch for a month. Do you have any fucking clue what it's like to live on a couch for a month? I couldn't even explain to her that the glitter was from a fucking vampire. She made me go with her and the baby to swim lessons for a one year old. Does that even fucking make sense? Swimming at one?!? Man...I dunno."
Phone rings...
"See?! It's her. She knows things. Now she's asking me to pick up formula. I have a fucking shotgun on my back with shells that shoot fucking fire and I'm getting texts to pick up baby formula and Wiggles videos. Guys...I love you but I think I'm done. Done. Gotta retire."

@Ghost reminds me of that geico commercial with the secret agent fighting on the helipad of a skyscraper and his mother calls to see about him bringing milk and complaining that his dad was doing nothing about the squirrels and is he having a party there?
-
@jibberthehut hahaha yes.

Having a scene that's so awesome it inspires you to want to go do other scenes. @thesuntsar is amazing.
