Songs evoke feelings, trigger memories... What music do you like to listen to at certain times?

Let's start with an easy one.

What do you listen to when it's raining or storming? What songs remind you of the rain?

      Two for me:

GnR - Sweet Child o' Mine
      Beck - Saw Lightning

@Auspice I think it's great that language is being expanded to include step moms & foster moms & adopted moms and all kinds of moms!

I'm not OK with messaging that has to try and find a way to squeeze motherhood on you because without it, somehow you just aren't a complete woman. You can have inclusive messaging without sending the message that it's something all women need, and really, that's all I'm asking for.

My guess is they're trying to figure out a way to be inclusive (the gender issue) and haven't gotten there yet. It's a growing pain thing.

So just like they, only a handful of years ago (I've only been divorced 4 years) were still pushing the 'This day is for women who remember holding their newborn!' narrative, I imagine in another year or two... they'll have it sussed out for how to present language for all women who are mothers in an inclusive way.

The media sucks at being inclusive in advertising. We know this. I'm just glad they finally got over, after years and years and years, only celebrating women who pooped out a kid.

So, I head home this afternoon.

I have some hours to kill before then, but my mom won't be up until after noon (she's where I get my night owl tendencies from). As such, I called a friend I have in the area who was super excited to find out I'm in town and we'll be meeting up in an hour-ish when they're free.

I'm glad I'll have the time to see them. I didn't have many friends while I was married (thanks to a very controlling, manipulative, gaslighting husband) and I retained even fewer after the divorce, but she and her husband are some of the best. The rare times I do make it to town, I try to see them. 🙂

The utterly confused look on my seat mate's face when muffins fell out of my hoodie pocket.

Yes. Alamo Draft house. And I live near the original motherfuckers. (Not like the original original where they'd show art flicks, but the very first one they opened when they became a legit movie theater). Anyway, they're now a chain and have theaters here and there nationwide (Austin just happens to be where they have the most).

I love em. They have themed menus for releases and the clip show they show before the movie is always custom cut to be themed for the film. It's really a movie lover's movie house. ❤

Aaaaanyway: I loved John Wick 3. It was way better than 2 imo and yeah it has a lot of humor but I loved it anyway and it has me excited already for 4. But. I love action movies anyway.

Graham Norton is such a lovely interviewer.

I'm in the States, so I DVR his shows. I build this backlog that I might not touch for weeks, and then suddenly get the wild hair to watch an episode. Every single time I'm floored with just how conversationally wonderful his programs are.

USA needs more "shared couch conversation" interview shows, or better yet, Graham needs to enter the US nighttime talk show competition.

He needs a less eye-bleed worthy set tho

So soon as I can afford the yarn (might be a good few months as it'll cost me roughly $65 and I am broke-ass-broke rn) I have the next pattern I wish to try (Tania Richter was giving it away the other day <3):

I may have mentioned in the past that I do not wear shawls but I love to knit them because I find them fascinating and a fantastic challenge. It would be my first attempt at double-knitting also. I am ready for the challenge and while I know I will probably get angry and fail a lot (because I am bad at charts), I am excited.

@Auspice - That is beyond gorgeous. Seriously.

Tania Richter's stuff is just amaaaaazing. I do budget for the $1/mo to back her Patreon just to make sure I do not EVER MISS ANOTHER KAL. She does super geeky themed ones (like they are RPG themed! As in you MAKE WHAT IS ESSENTIALLY A CHARACTER SHEET AND IT DICTATES HOW YOUR KAL GOES) and I have missed every single damn one. So I have decreed I shall never miss another.

And this was a freebie she did this month (it's like, $8? on Ravelry usually) as a kind of apology for recent radio silence. She is one talented lady with so so so many patterns that us geeky types can fall in love with. ❤

@Auspice Double-knitting isn't too evil, I swear. The idea of doing it while shaping even a basic triangle is making my brain hurt, I will admit, but you should be able to nail this one.

If you can tell there, this pattern starts from the center. Which kind of hurts my brain ALSO but.
I have succeeded every pattern that has been a brand new 'level' of difficulty where I have just straight dove in.

Not to derail, but who the fuck bullied you for enjoying sports? As far as I know, if you're into dudes, have breasts, and like sports, you're a fucking unicorn that every man would want to saddle up and take for a ride.

There are plenty of people who hate sports to such an extreme (particularly football) that every winter they will take to Facebook every Sunday to whine and bemoan its mere existence while trying to threaten anyone who dares sully their 'walls' with talk of it.

When I asked one friend about it, his reasoning was: 'Well when I was in school, the jocks bullied me so now it's my turn'

...I was really not happy about that and promptly did not speak to him for quite a while.

Coworker (older man): Do you know what this is?
He points to ' ¯_(ツ)_/¯' on one of the spreadsheets.

      I shrugged in answer.

Him: Oh. You don't know either?

...I explained it to him but I did sort of enjoy that one little sitcom-esque moment in my otherwise mindnumbingly dull day.

Having a recruiter (and it not be like, 'We clearly contacted absolutely everyone in our database because this job is in New Jersey, is a 3mo contract paying $15/hr, and you're in Texas') contact me directly about a job is a decent pick-me-up for my morning.
