Those would put me in the 28-29 years ago range. I don't recall which was my first actual Mush. Maybe Dragonsfire Moo which was a Pern game.

That was my first game, too!

Also, put me in the column of 'doesn't mind people knowing who I play/ed.'
I mean, look, if they hate me? I don't have to run into them if they're avoiding me. Win/win.

Facebook was built ON, BY, and FOR drama. Don't ever think that it is intended for any other use.

Yeah, speaking of this... Been seeing my ex-husband suddenly cropping up on a friend's Facebook (they met because he ended up roommates' with a high school friend of hers 😐 ). And all his 'supportive' talk when she mentions her recovery from abuse, etc.... it makes me rage inside. So hard. Because I know the abuse she's speaking of. And it's similar to the exact bullshit he pulled on me (that he's now pretending was 'so terrible' that she went through and he's really just seeing as a 'oh so she's susceptible to it').

And I know she's his type.

Like would it be dramatic of me if I go to her and am like 'btw he is gross and shitty and this is all part of his game and I don't want to see you hurt and please for the love of god stay away from him'? Because I know in the World O Relationships I probably just come across as 'the crazy ex' but she is my friend and I do not want to see her suffer goddamnit.

      Minor victories:

I can still get to my feet from sitting on the ground without needing to leverage myself using my hands. I'd call that #winning for being in my thirties now.

    • RE: First Through the Gate Syndrome

@saosmash said in First Through the Gate Syndrome:

I used to hesitate before posing in a gmed scene due to anxiety about spotlighting but now I am old and I just pose. I've discovered that if I pose "actively" and am doing something people are more likely to also be doing something and the beginning of scenes kicks things off right away instead of standing around.

I think it is just one of those things. Somebody's gotta break the seal.

One method I've taken (to your standing around part) is, when STing, I start people in media res. And I know other STs who do the same.

For years it was the norm to start in the 'setup' stage of plot (on BSG this might be 'you're in the ready room and the alert goes off...' or 'you're all prepping for a mission and have to board the Raptor...') and people could take over an hour just to go through that.

Now I just thrust them into the midst of it.
'On the other side of the Stargate....' - because of course you're all gonna gear up, get your mission debriefing, and go through the Gate. That can be assumed. So I just fold it all into my set.

I've also been trying to be more proactive about just outright asking people 'So, are you moving on to the next area?'
I used to avoid it because I didn't want to seem like I was railroading people or cutting off someone's pose, but now I do it because it keeps people from milling around waiting for someone to 'go first.' (And if someone was working on finishing up a pose for Area A, they can fold it into their pose for Area B.)

    • RE: Star vs Ensemble Cast - Why Theme is Vital

      Double-posting because...

This is something that actually irks me. Theme and setting are two different things.

I can have two Battlestar games. One is about the beginning of the war, the rise of the Cylons, and humanity's fumble. The other is about the end stages of the war when humanity has to find a place to rebuild. Both are BSG. But both have very different atmospheres (IC). One is about failure the other is about hope. One can become the other, yes, but the driving theme at the start is still different.

WoD and D&D - these are not settings. They are toolsets that dictate the rules of the world. So 'World of Darkness game set in modern day Brussels' has no theme. It has a setting and a guidebook.

'World of Darkness game set in Iraq during the start of the Gulf War' has a theme. A really weird theme, but a theme.

I honestly feel the fact that we let theme and setting be interchangeable words means a lot of people are missing out on the theme question when building their game.

I have a world I've been developing IRL. It's sci-fi, humanity spread around the galaxy, etc etc... but the theme is 'Fighting against an oppressive government' for my story in particular. I could pluck another one out of there and make it, say, 'Exploring new worlds' and it would wildly change the story being told.

    • RE: Getting Young Blood Into MU*'ing

Honestly, I think 'MUSH' has become akin to 'bandaid' or 'kleenex' in that what was a brand name (a specific type of codebase) is now a common-use term.

I used to always differentiate (MUX, MOO, MUSH, MUSE, MUD..........) and I still often just say 'MU*' in the sense one might '*NIX' as a catchall for Linux/Unix/.....

@faraday may have hit it on the head: a MUSH is a game that emphasizes RP over code.

Maybe you didn't mean your post to be as offensive as I took it but I'm just a bit tired of this culture our society has developed of "Oh? You don't agree with me? Well, you must be a racist/sexist/*phobe/Etc.".

Did you specifically create a change.org petition to have TLJ struck from Star Wars canon?

Did you go to Rose's Wookiepedia page and continually make racist edits?

I assume not. You also phrased your post as you disliked the movie. That's fine. There's major movies out there that people love that I really don't (I didn't enjoy Deadpool at all, for example).

When I say TLJ hate, I mean the things above. I mean the coordinated campaign to flood the Rotten Tomatoes reviews to fuck with their metrics. All based on racism and anti-feminism. I don't mean people who didn't like it based on an actual viewing and breakdown of it as a film.

      Be aware of bleed.
Be aware of your own feelings.
      Become aware of others’ feelings.

honestly I feel like this is all we need 95% of the time.

      That said:
The concept of 'consent' is sometimes a battle. Because some people wanna use it to escape consequences and then it can easily become a dirty word because that leaves everyone else feeling abused.

The approach SGM has taken is: you can step out of anything at any time, but it does not equal escaping IC outcomes. It just means no one can ever make you RP it out.

Don't feel comfortable RPing your character getting arrested after they stabbed someone in front of a cop? Okay. Cool. You don't have to. It happened off-camera. But you can't say 'No' to dealing with the consequences of your decisions.

(Now, obviously, players forcing bad shit on other players is a different story and covered under our 'no harassment' policy. But this is largely for 'consent to plot' so that's what I'm focusing on.)

I referenced goatse today when 'weird internet shit' came up at work. (The younger guys were talking about when they were first shown 2girls1cup.)

A coworker said 'I don't want to know about that crazy shit from back in your day.'

      You know what this means?

That the Internet is as deviant as it can ever get. We made it to the top of that hill before anyone else. Everyone after our generation will be following in our footsteps.

      We won.

It's true. When they're wigged out by 2girls1cup and some minor BMEzine stuff and you're thinking something along the lines of "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.."

Maybe we won. But was it really winning?

I've always been that person at jobs that just clocks in, does their thing, and clocks out. But I've made myself be more social at work. I go to the parties. I've even gone out after work a couple times with coworkers.

On shift, I don't spend the whole day with headphones on. I bullshit around with the guys (I'm the only woman on the team currently; not for lack of trying and we do have other women in the office, just not on my team).

They're actually happy to see me come in. Like literally one of them said "Hey! [Auspice] is here! Awesome!" yesterday. It's... kinda great. And new to me. Or something I've just never been able to notice before due to depression and lack of good enough meds.

suggests some sort of repi- er whats the word

      Reciprocation?

I think you're on the ball there and I think that's why people get annoyed when someone constantly ducks out of RP because 'it's not fun for me.' Yeah, well, I wouldn't be asking you TO RP if it wasn't fun for me, so thanks.

I think that's why I bristle so hard at the 'my fun' or the 'I shouldn't have to RP anything that isn't my fun' idea. Because it implies: someone else's fun is worth more than mine.

On Ithir, there's a lot of people who want teaching scenes in exchange for giving/receiving a teaching discount on a skill. I don't particularly enjoy teaching scenes. On either end. I don't wanna be the student, I don't wanna be the teacher. So I will pass. I'll just say 'let's RP about whatever and just say the teaching happened off-camera.' But I know some people really like those scenes so yes, I've absolutely sucked it up and RP'd giving someone swordplay lessons. I tried to keep that part of the scene short and sweet, but they wanted it and I knew from experience that they had been willing to handwave the teaching part for something for me.

But it absolutely would have been a dick move, IMO, to refuse. So, what, it cost me a couple hours and let our characters talk and have character development while I played out a scene that isn't in my preferred things to do. Whatever.

Tech support does not ask you questions like 'What device are you using?' or 'What error(s) are you getting?' to waste time.

Saying 'just fix it.' is not going to get things fixed any quicker.

Shit like 'I'm having location issues' can mean at least three different problems for me. And all three have different sources and different solutions. So until you fucking cooperate, I can't fix your problem. The more belligerent you get, the longer you're gonna wait to have your problem fixed, and the less I give a shit.

I cut my own hair (it was driving me up the wall and fuck knows when I'd be able to afford to go anywhere to get it done). It doesn't look bad! I just took off a couple inches so it's above my shoulders a bit, but still.

I attribute that to it being a bit curly now. That hides a lot of uneven ends, I'm sure.
