Check out Charlie's sheet sometime. Charlie should, arguably, be one of the best shots on the game re: firearms. She's meant to be. She's a sniper.
And then some of you saw how my dice treated me in that shooting competition. Even spending a luck point to reroll, she came out near the bottom. If I hadn't spent that luck point? She would've been the worst. 😄

Some of our MU* characters are nerds. Of course they are!

Every so often the idea of gaming within the game comes up, but who really wants to run a TT campaign WITHIN A GAME?! No one, that's who.

Well, guys, I have a solution. I just found Lasers and Feelings. It's so simple that you could RP a scene around it. You could run this on a road trip. It's cute, it's quirky, it's got room for hilarity, it's creative commons: http://onesevendesign.com/lasers_and_feelings_rpg.pdf

I, for one, am totally gonna use this in a scene someday.

And honestly, I'd say let's leave Jean dead. I love Jean but eventually it'll cause 1) bad IC friction if there's a Scott/Emma relationship (which seems to be the 'default' for this setting, and 2) someone will bitchmoan about her not being Phoenix powerlevels.

I hate Phoenix saga so much. I'd love to see a non-Phoenix Jean.

So I have a few game ideas bouncing around in my head, but obvs only going to work on one. I'd like to get a feel of what people might want to see, with the understanding that it's gonna be a fair while before it's open (between work and school, I have only limited time right at the moment).

      1. The Magicians - this would be a blend of book/show. The elements chosen would be in support of the game environment. My pain point here is I don't know what system to use. The setting is more PvE. There's little combat magic to begin with. And if it's a system without ready-made code, I'd need a coder. (I could break FS3 to work and have theorized how I'd do so, but Faraday would probably cry a lot.) I've already done some work on this idea, as well. I have a metaplot, policies drafted, etc.

      2. The Expanse - This is the game I'm sort of wanting right now. Partly because I am on a big sci-fi kick. It'd be set in the general 'universe,' but without the events of the show (no Scopuli, etc.). I'd set it on Ceres and focus on those elements. I have worked out how people could have ships and would, if the game got large enough, open up large (like 1-2 total) ship crews. I do, however, lack a solid metaplot so far, but I'm sure I could come up with one eventually. FS3 would work for this, easy, so code isn't an issue.

      3. Original SciFi - So I have this scifi setting. It's sort of my personal 'masterwork' for school. I've used it for scripts, game concepts (video game), and short stories. I've fleshed out the historical timeline, one of the societies, and I have 6 plotlines that could be worked with / woven into a metaplot. I'd probably set the game on a station, to start with. FS3 would also work for this. (I'll also note it has a feel akin to Firefly in some ways, if that's your thing)

My worry about #3 is I know people sometimes have a really hard time latching onto original themes, due to the learning curve. I know #1 and #2 have books and shows already there that would allow people to dive in (as well as wikis to supplement knowledge).

I also know I'm opening myself up to being torn to shreds for shitty ideas, but... I'd rather put effort into a game people would be interested in.

There's a lot of reasons for me not to use WoD.

      1. I hate the current CG system out there for it. I hate it with a burning passion. I don't want to touch it. I hate using it to build characters. So if I used WoD? Oh look, back to having to code something from scratch.
      2. Again, as much as people try to argue me, I don't think WoD is easy to ST in. If that makes me some sort of dumbass, then so be it.
      3. CG is slower, approvals would take longer (esp. if I use something that can be abused wildly like Mage), and I don't want to have to keep a full app staff just to go through them.
      4. One of the complaints we hear on the forums are 'yet another WoD game'. That's what it would be. I could slap the veneer of Magicians on it, but it'd be yet another WoD game.

There's a guy sitting across from me on the bus who looks like a total dude bro and is probably 18-20.

He is utterly absorbed in the copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince he is reading and it warms my cold heart.

This is being discussed for the Aliens game (called Hudsons) and we discussed it at length in that thread (my RL needs to chill the fuck out so I can step back into helping out with that project).

One of the big bonuses, in my mind, to such a PC is that it increases the impact of death. It's hard to care about a 'there for flavor' NPC, but easier when someone was actively involved and playing them.

The other perk, for me at least, would be getting to try out character types I might not otherwise. I have a lot of ideas I pass on because I'm not sure I'd enjoy them long-term. It'd give me a place to test drive them.

@auspice Uh. No. You were talking marriage and babies and shit, and I was uncomfortable with what was going on elseMU* (this was the same time as @tek for the record was doing all the weird shit with Clara/Randy, et al), so I made the move to put all my relationships to an end. I should have told you more on that, and I'm sorry. So, yes, I killed off the character, especially since it was a roster pull from a former character who informed me after I pulled the char that he wasn't supposed to be on roster, which made me feel worse. I made that decision. I'll own it.

      lol.
You were the one who brought up marriage on the characters. I know it's he said/she said at this point, but most people can tell you I don't do baby RP. My characters might talk about it, but they'll never actually get there (and most end up being infertile in some way).

I mean, it's saying something that I've had other people tell me you made them uncomfortable by trying to go immediately into declarations of love.

I rolled with it because I tend to be laid back and roll with things unless they go wildly outside of my comfort zone ICly. I RP because I like the challenge and to see what happens. But the insinuation that I'm the one who went there is patently false. However, we are all well aware of your status as a liar.

    • RE: Code systems that make it easier to get on with the business of roleplaying

      Faraday's scene system.

It's similar to the temproom system many WoD games use, but the added features it has are lovely. Being able to see what scenes are open with 'scenes' (with things like 'location,' scene summary (if set), etc. Being able to jump into a scene with 'scene/join' all help in getting access to RP (I don't have to wait for someone to send a meetme, for example).

The system also allows you to define a scene/set (so no need to page each incoming person). It has a scene/log on the fly, scene/repose (so people can either read the full log to catch up or just the last few; again, no need to page people to catch them up!).

When the scene is done? I just make sure the pertinent info is filled out and I can post the scene.

      Done.

It allows me to focus on the RP. I love it. I probably love it the most out of everything she's done with AresMUSH. And I say this as someone who hates logging more than anything.

ETA: Almost forgot. As an ST, the scene/emit function is great. It sets apart my ST poses so that even in a big scene, everyone knows 'oh hey, ST pose!' so it's not lost in the rest and I don't have to do any especial formatting myself.

    • RE: System dealbreakers

Something with 10 million different "moves." I don't mean options. I mean like:

"Okay so you have 3 actions per turn and those actions are divided into sub-actions and you can choose from these charts. You can either MOVE (select from Chart A, B, or C), ATTACK (Chart D, E, F), USE MAGIC (Chart G, H, I), USE ITEM..."

Some systems take this to worse extremes than others, but it becomes this system of micromanaging that just sucks all the fun out of a game for me. Thankfully, they rarely if ever translate to MU*, but that never seems to stop people from trying.
