      I also think that with 51 votes saying they're happy and 46 saying either an outright NO or "somewhere in between", that there's a lot of people who aren't exactly comfortable and/or might be feel comfortable being vocal about it.

      You're pretty insistent on pushing people into saying the hobby is bad/unfun which is... sort of going to make people feel like it's bad/unfun because it's like 'yeah there's this guy who just spouts a lot of negativity over there'. Self fulfilling prophecy yo.

      Where's your boom gif now?!

      Dont make me post the gif again, damn it. You goad me with your honeyed words and heroin taunts.

      Srsly, tho? I swear I'm not trying to cram some point into a jar. I'm just saying: "Hey, there's clearly people who are unhappy on some level, so let's start talking about how we can be better."

      I just hate to see this 46 people poll go entirely ignored without some attempt at forward movement.

      A lot of it may be your language, then. You tend to use very negative, inflammatory "chicken little the sky is falling!!' language and then look around going 'Well what are you lot going to do about it?!' and I admit I can fall into that sometimes too and I am trying my best to stop.

      A lot of being better is just fucking be better. Don't fuss over it. Don't theorycraft. Just do it.

      Having a recruiter (and it not be like, 'We clearly contacted absolutely everyone in our database because this job is in New Jersey, is a 3mo contract paying $15/hr, and you're in Texas') contact me directly about a job is a decent pick-me-up for my morning.

      It's a good thing I'm no longer an admin. I'd warn you for overuse of that damn gif. It's becoming an eyesore.

      I take the opposite approach to Ghost.

      I love the guy but I disagree with him on this. For sort of the reason Faraday points out. I am open with who I am. Then there's none of the whispering and wondering. If people wanna avoid me, they can avoid me. If they want me off their game for the sheer fact that I exist they can do so.

      But then there's also no chance that some poor sod is gonna get discriminated against because 'Well they said something that seems like something Auspice would say so I'm gonna assume it's her and we should all treat her like shit now as a result'

      I am more adapted to mornings than I thought.

      Slept in today, but still fucking exhausted as I got in the door at 11:30p. My goal is to be up and go for a hike tomorrow morning before work: we will see.

      Also: fuck you dude who was sitting at the entrance gate when I got home. Complex has two exit gates and an entrance gate. They are intended to be one way. He was sitting there, vehicle dead center, just waiting for me to put in the code. Which I did and then swiftly moved my vehicle over to be well in his way.

      Where I then sat. Until he moved. I don't care that he likely thought I'd sit and politely wait by the code box until he left. I don't care that he likely thought I'd move out of the way so he could depart. It is the fucking entrance gate. He's not supposed to use it as an exit. I stared his ass down until he backed up and out of the way so I could enter.

      Coworker (older man): Do you know what this is?
      He points to ' ¯_(ツ)_/¯' on one of the spreadsheets.

      I shrugged in answer.

      Him: Oh. You don't know either?

      ...I explained it to him but I did sort of enjoy that one little sitcom-esque moment in my otherwise mindnumbingly dull day.

      Conversely to the "everyone is always attacking everyone" argument, there's the rather obvious "everyone takes everything said personally" problem.

      @Lemon-Fox

      It did read to me as an attempt to explain to @Ghost why his idea would not work rather than an attack on you as @saosmash said. However, I can see why you might have read it otherwise considering what you've said about missing the community and I am sympathetic.

      ETA: sorry to pile on. I was still typing when @Roz replied.

      How about "even if it isn't gaining the 1-2 PCs any benefits, it just looks bad?"

      Nothing wrong with the phrase! I just see so many people react so negatively to it that they'll disregard everything else said.

      Overall I am on the same page as you, I believe. 🙂

      @Auspice I believe it's an Indian symbol that was absorbed by the various religions originating in and around India. So it could apply to Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism to a lesser extent.

      Ah! Yes, I know of the Indian origins of the symbol, but hasn't thought of the broader representation for religions. I only know of the Japan facet because there has been a lot of petitions for the maps to be changed (due to the uncomfortable history with the swastika) and Japan has pushed back since they've had it as a symbol to represent those temples for much longer...etc. I read an article about it a bit back.

      @Alamias

      I do know certain maps in Japan use it to mark Buddhist temples. And I think in some areas it's used for Hinduism though I'm less certain on that one.
