ETA: The Chaser: Celebration as natural disaster averted by slightly less horrific natural disaster

“It’s a miracle, a terrible terrible miracle!” said one east coast resident whose burning house was now underwater. “Sure my entire town might still be destroyed, but at least now the news will be able to run with some lighthearted footage of a guy canoeing down the street.”

If you want, you lot can borrow footage of the fella canoeing down the street during a tornado warning in my parents' town.

      @Wretched

All of this. So much of this. The friends one today. I rationally know this isn't true, but...

This hits me a few times a year. I'll just hole up for a couple days once or twice a year and talk to no one because it'll get in my head that everyone hates me.

Ike does not like me to leave the apartment. She wants me home with her all the time forever. She has abandonment issues (which is why we have AJ- I don't always like him, but the two of them adore each other).

She knows when I'm prepping to go out. I lay clothes out on the bed. So she lays on them. Yesterday......yesterday she pretended to be asleep. Curled up. 'Snoring.' Except she had her eyes open, watching me. Yes. My cat pretended.to.snore. She's too smart for her own good, I swear to god.

Could whichever one of you coders is fucking with the weather system, please test your code before putting it in production.

And no, Australia is not the test server.

      You sure?
I thought that's how Australia started. 'Let's send all our degens down there to test it out first.'

      (that aside, stay safe.)

I love how pets all have their own unique way of snoozing.
      Share yours.

My black panthress, Ike, always sleeps with her front paws stretched out in front of her. This is especially adorable when it means they're draped out off a couch, the bed, etc into the air.

(AJ is often just yoga cat. He'll twist into various poses. And weirdly, he likes to stretch out against the wall??? You'll find him off to the side of the room, sprawled against the floorboard.)

Band was amazing. Show was amazing.
(Being hit on by the bass player was a real good/needed boost to the ego.)

But holy shit being hunted down by someone's wife on instagram to have her grill me because her 'best friend' saw me close to her man and she needed to know if he cheated on her with me is not the sort of shit I need. Good thing she provided a photo of him.

It was the guy who ended up next to me in the crowd. Y'know. Crowds. At concerts. Where everyone is pressed in tight. Yup. Close by sheer fortune of proximity at a concert.

And the truth of it: he was a goddamn gentleman. He actually pushed back another guy who tried forcing himself to the front (we were at the stage) and right up against my back, near pinning me to the stage. So damn girl, trust your man a bit more and question that so-called 'friend' a bit.

I did talk to this guy a bit before the show and he dropped an 'ex-fiancee' mention. ...and in her stream of messages she called him both husband and fiance so I am wooooondeeeeering if there is some stalker-shiz going on on her end. EITHER WAY NOT MY CIRCUS. I just told her nothing happened and he was, in point of fact, a gentleman.

I'm about to see my favorite band in the world.
The two original members remember me even tho it's been about six years since I last saw them.
I've already made a couple friends.

Tonight's gonna be a good night

      @Testament

Last spring during my stint working security, I worked with some sneakerheads.
One guy was so bad that he would, every couple weeks, buy a new outfit for a night out.......and a pair of shoes to match.
He admitted he had roughly 60 pairs of shoes.

I will say I have a pair of Reeboks in the same colors, roughly, as those Nikes near the top. Except mine are predominately black with the blues and pinks as highlights.

    • RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff

Forced myself to go out today because I spent most of yesterday in bed because of leg pain. Most of today in bed because of leg pain. So I went out, got my free mini facial (Origins stores do these sometimes; check it out). Went to Joanns to get the skeins of thread I need (40% off your entire purchase coupon today/tomorrow).

But my legs hurt so bad the entire time. I'm sitting in my car after Joanns trying not to cry and work up the strength to drive home. It's after 7 and I haven't even eaten today because I haven't had the strength to cook. I shouldn't spend more to eat out but I know when I get home I'm only gonna curl up on the couch under the heating blanket.

@Auspice Bet she earned super big points with that guy.

I hate thinking of it that way, but considering the shit he also said to my friend? Yeah.

      Yeah, I bet she did.

      Grinds

If a woman speaks up to a dude about sexist behavior and you, another woman, have witnessed and/or been subject to this same behavior...

...don't harangue the first over how it's 'just a joke' and you enjoy it (which sort of implies that she should too).

(Note: I am not the wronged party in this. A friend is. But that honestly has me even more pissed off and wanting to do some hair pulling.)

Not really. Most of her message was basically a reply pointing out she is currently seeing someone and is only interested in friends. That's fantastic! A reply that says 'Thanks but no thanks' is unheard of, so it is greatly appreciated!

The thing is she met this person after I messaged her. She says she has been seeing him for a year now. Yeah, you weren't interested only in friends when I sent the original message.

      alt text

Oof. I was gonna say 'maybe she deleted OkCupid, opened it back up, and is going through old messages' (I did that this past summer briefly) buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuut if you're using it for the 'just friends' route mmmmmmmmmaybe don't touch the old messages from when you were still trying to date.

My issue with cooking is that I need someone to meal plan.
If you go 'Ok Monday we're having this and here's the ingredients, Tuesday we're having this and here's the ingredients' I will cook every single day my fibro isn't flaring up. And I cook good.

      Also, I can cook.

Look, 'someone who can cook' was once top of my list and I ended up with an abusive husband. It's less important now.
