losing a pet is hard. And for some, it will stick with you (I was in my 20s before I fully got over the loss of a cat I had as a kid). I'm glad you found two pups to adopt! Your baby would be proud.

In 'people can be shitty Admin IRL, too':
I'm part of a local lady geeks group. I've met some p awesome people through it (and a couple less-than, but w/e! Out of hundreds of people not everyone will be a winner). The best group, however, has been those of us who do needlework. And the mod of the geeks group who oversaw our steotch team decided to launch her own local group just for needlework, that way those who aren't into the geeky stuff and guys can join too (we have a couple male members already!).
While out with them last night, we found out one of our members was BANNED from the geek group, but she's really cool and nice, so it was a ??? WHY WOULD SHE BE BANNED?
Well, turns out the person who runs the geek group, about a year or so ago, removed moderator status (in Discord/FB) from most of the moderators. Without warning. Without word. And when they (understandably) got back to her to be like 'Hey, what gives? Why did you remove us???'
...she banned them.
And before the 'well that's just one side-' stuff: this was corroborated by someone who was a mod at the time and still is. Who says she found herself on thin ice for a bit because she stood up for them and the fact that they were due, at least, an explanation.
But I'm over here like man, I'm really glad I've resisted every urge to 'step up' in the group. No mod. No organizing a group (I almost began organizing the writer's group but held my tongue long enough that someone else jumped up to do it). I'll happily stick to hanging out and organizing the rare outing (like I'm gonna run an Ultimate Werewolf next week).
I'd suggest Red Dead or Outer Worlds.
civ 6 is forgettable as Gany said. I own it and 5 and I still default to 5.
it's not fair that such a small section takes so many hours.

@Auspice Nope or Dope are good people! I know them! We make the same kinda videos and such.
I kind of love them and would absolutely hang out with them for a day. I just realize that it's like the epitome of junk food for the brain.
A vignette to set the stage for season 2 has gone up: https://stargate.aresmush.com/scene/196
Additionally, our first +job action is up: https://stargate.aresmush.com/forum/10/184
(The job action is something we're trialing in which we'll post a 'set' and players can put in +requests to work out their part in it. This is to help lighten the load on US while @Paradox is still super busy IRL and to give more flexibility to those in other timezones).
First +event of season 2 will be scheduled tomorrow or Thursday.
Mondo is the only beauty youtuber I still watch. His utter positivity and love for all people of all types is just so heartwarming.
Just had a really positive phone interview for a job that'd pay really well and have good benefits.
Here's hoping I make it to the face to face. I can usually ace those.
I didn't put Brad on mine because of the personal shame of not watching every video lately. :X
But he is just a gem of a human.

So, I didn't read the last four pages, and while I adore you all, I don't think it'd be a good use of my time.
ANYWAY, I wasn't trying to equate authors = RPing, though I get totally why it was read that way and feel it's a valid conversation (again?) for other to take on.
I was focusing on how it's fun to do terrible things to characters.
Excuse me as I go over here thanks.
Welcome to msb.
But to that point: I love to do the same.
Unfortunately a lot of people don't and/or treat you like you're an attention whore if you do so I'm often super hesitant to do terrible things to my PCs these days unless I'm very comfortable in an environment.

Everyone else's lists look like the programming from NPR and mine is basically "Get drunk and watch people play video games."
I mean, mine has Dope or Nope on it. And kiwami. And HowtoBasic.
I have a couple game-related channels in my subs, but by and far I just can't enjoy watching other people play games. It's not something I've been able to get into.

well I might have remembered to come back and do so but since you complained

Lost In Vegas two black guys who aren't metalheads (primarily rap/r&b) listening to metal songs for the first time and critiquing. They also share their own favorite music with metalheads.
If I wrote a thesis about my theory that heavy metal and rap are both sides of the same coin (only with 2 different audiences), this would be part of my chief argument.
In a similar vein is this guy. He's only ever known hiphop and has been expanding his music knowledge.
All his videos are p good, but holy shit his reaction to Bohemian Rhapsody is PURE WHOLESOME.

@Auspice Ares rocks, and this is indeed one of the reasons why. I recall editing pages of pages of prompts and game code out of logs by hand and yes, I'll cede that that might be one reason to only bother with the important bits.
I know I'm not the only one who checks help files, sheets, +finger, etc. while RPing. All stuff you can't shove to a spawn and auto-filter out of logs. It makes editing a hot mess.
logs don't always get posted because log editing sucks.
I do post all my Ares scenes (unless they're just TS >.>) because it's easier to do.
I had a scene the other day on a non-Ares game that might've been fun to see posted but neither of us wanted to edit a log.

That's one of the places where mush writing and novel writing differ dramatically. One aims for instant gratification in the here and now and to hell with a typo or a repeated verb. The other aims for perfection and goes through five edits to get there. In the end, the novel will have the better prose (one should hope!).
I never edit my poses (unless I'm STing and then they get a pass for clarity).
My professional writing gets bogged down by the internal editor.
That's part of why I enjoy MUing, tbh. I can send the internal editor home for the day and just write.

took turns writing a scene and emailed it back and forth,
I imagine mailed back and forth for two reasons:

Tangent: I will gladly join @Ghost in launching a campaign to burn the played-by trend at the stake. Finally someone said it. Write your fucking descriptions, people.
<3.
It's a very simple way to be a better writer. Each character is its own little writing project to showcase your ability to flesh out the character using your skills as a writer.
I always feel like "PB over description" is a missed opportunity to actually treat the hobby like it's a writing hobby.
I wanna read, god damnit. Tired of seeing all these actors and actresses and want my mind to make new faces.
I don't mind PBs and would prob still use one. I hate writing descriptions. I hate how static they are (which is why I pose my character's current appearance in near every scene). I hate trying to convey in a succinct way what my character looks like. I hate how, pre-PBs, some people were so obsessed with being the PRETTIEST that their descs became purple prose filled blocks of text that you could barely navigate and often described some horrendous inhuman thing because they lost the plot midway through but could only continue forward with their thesaurus-abusing narrative.
I'm happy to have PBs.
