    • RE: Regarding administration on MSB

I've been entrusted with forum moderator positions before and I think the moderation here will be fine after details have been ironed out, but there is little else more irritating than someone in authority who doesn't seem inclined to follow their own rules and guidelines. You'll be criticized as a moderator because people don't like to be told no - and you'll likely have to hold back that tendency to tell them how ridiculous they're being, otherwise you undermine yourself. If @Auspice continues to get defensive and insulting when she attempts to moderate and people question her decision, then it's something that warrants reconsidering, but I'm... not sure if it's at that point yet.

We'll see, I guess. My two cents. Take it or leave it.

    • RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning

I think the initial reaction re: Custodius entering Arx was that the staff believed they could reign him in if he went overboard with his shenanigans, but then you get staff laying the banhammer on players with good reputations who may have been having an off day while someone with a horrible reputation continues to exist there because he hasn't been caught yet.

Or maybe he has been, and they've ignored it, which is even worse.

The near-acidic sweetness of pineapple complements the saltiness of the ham/bacon and the tang of the tomato sauce perfectly. Some people just can't appreciate true art.

    • RE: Arx's Elevation Situation

Pretty sure I remember seeing land ratings in the alpha document, and I imagine the minister positions were made for future use, so it seems like this is just the userbase outpacing the planned systems. An immediate fix is just not going to happen, and I think people are overestimating the effect these elevations are really going to have on their play.

I have been operating under the possibility that growing too big too fast may come and bite me in the ass if my wee barony suddenly needs to support a gigantic influx of prodigal refugees and don't have the farming output for it. I feel like codified obstacles like that would be a natural fit, with some guard rails to prevent a player being overwhelmed or punishing a house for inactivity (though maybe that'll remedy the empty noble house problem that seems to crop up?)

I know micromanagement is not everyone's cup of tea, but I figured that's the appeal of apping in Princess Twinkles Grayson who is 144th in line for the throne.

There will be complaints about system imbalances, real and imagined, but it'd make the climb feel more rewarding than the grind fest it currently is. But this is also beta, and I can wait on unintentionally bankrupting myself.

lol seems like that one guy who declared Thrax was doomed shortly after Max was revealed to be there was right.

@crysta said in MUSH Marriages (IC):

Longest marriage I had was on Firan I think. Never got divorced and I haven't had any character die yet. Never actually had a break up, come to think of it.

But I think the average time it takes for my character to get into romantic RP is about a year. Not so much because I'm picky so much as it's never my focus and it just kind of happens. I rarely -pursue- it.

I enjoyed having my character married to yours, though it's a shame it outlasted the game. 😛

We were married? Which game was this? I'm trying to remember! Jacen? Elias?

    • RE: Arx- Gareth

That rule is one of the rules you can't really pretend you were unaware of; if he deliberately ignores it and encourages others to do the same, then it's a pretty big problem. The rest of it doesn't really matter, to me.

And it's a good rule. Since the resources given via completed tasks is more valuable than the actual currency in the game, I think it's pretty tempting to abuse the system and become a monster in harassing players to get tasks done FOR THE BETTERMENT OF TEH HOUSE. Which is decidedly not-fun.

EDIT: also you probably shouldn't be casually completing rating 75 tasks (currently the highest in the game) in alpha when it's specifically for big, long-term IC projects anyway.

    • RE: Fantasy MU*s?

@BetterJudgment dinged my name here and I was all like "WTF I never post here..." but apparently I do.

I can safely say after dealing with the old set of staffers versus Mycol the latter is definitely more laid back and more comfortable with letting characters have actual freedom to do what they wanna do, and that @Ide assumption seems pretty on the mark with how the previous staff came off in general. I mean, it got to the point where you had to go to a staffer to make sure you found a family which fit your character concept so the precious family tree that was being set up wasn't slightly off or something... and I think names were decided for some people (who probably smelled the micromanaging craziness and fled shortly thereafter).

I can see Mycol being busy and unintentionally brusque, but he's not anal-retentive.

And yes, the wiki bothers me and it's taken some willpower for me to not complain about it because we don't even follow some of those dumb rules any more lol. Particularly the new (but supposedly old) rules about lethal combat which were implemented shortly before the banned staff members were kicked out (and only added after a staff character bit the dust - but of course didn't actually because of them)... which we have never followed since. There have been several characters who have not produced logs for months and they're still around, too... not sure why because I would think they would have gotten bored by now but whatever.

EDIT: And we need more Northerners dammit.

    • RE: The Realms Adventurous Revival

She doesn't do it to stay anonymous. At least not entirely.

Like I said, she has done borderline iffy stuff. It's "borderline" because it's more rude than actually against the rules; pretending to drop out of a scene due to supposed connection problems only to log onto another alt to ask for RP from other people, dropping plotline commitments just because she isn't interested any more (she suddenly lost interest in running a tournament once her alt was eliminated and couldn't attain the grand prize any more - she logged into another alt when another event was supposed to be scheduled), and a myriad of other weird things (romantically involve several alts with the same character for dramaz).

      So, yeah, no.

    • RE: Sexuality: IC and OOC

OOCly, heterosexual female. ICly, I usually play low-key bi-sexual guys. I'm not really attracted to the female anatomy in RL but through a text medium I can dig romance with female characters. I will admit, my sexytimes with male characters is probably better, though.

While I have heard quite a few from my friends, I can't say I have very many of my own horror stories. I will say I never get 'fangirls' for my heterosexual relationships ... that happens exclusively with my same-sex relationships.

I used to hang out a forum which had a category dedicated to forum thread Mafia but I sucked at it lol. If I wasn't mafia, I was the mafia's most useful idiot.

But Trundle's right - it's a game that can -easily- lead to ridiculous internet grief when people start to take it seriously. You don't think you would, until you do.
