The Elder One is feeling under the weather today. Pets have been administered. (Also, Benadryl and Cephalexin, but mostly pets.)

I mean -- have we considered the idea that 'sit still and be quiet' is maybe just not a thing we should expect of a 7 year old of any sort?

RE: MU Things I Love
When you find some people capable of doing a deeply moving, fun, and inspiring story that goes to some weird places IC, but the OOC stays gloriously awesome and you can talk stuff through comfortably.
You know who you are, and I just wanna say, I have mad respect for you.

RE: Pacing in Ares Scenes
It is changing. As people have busier lives, the ability to RP gets fitted into narrower windows of time. Ares portal scenes allow more people to RP at their pace, which is at non-"live" 5-20 minutes between poses pacing.
I personally don't see this as a bad thing. I have gotten used to that, saving bigger chunks of time for GM'd events. I also predict that as people get more used to the joys of the scenes system and web portal that this will become more common.
Might want to prepare. Just saying.

In the seduction example Person A rolls well and say gives Person B a 2 or 3 dice penalty on all roles in the presence of Person A because they get flustered. Still no player is forced to do something they really don't want but Person A has definite advantages in a situation of Person B.
Yep! That's the entire purpose for the Swooning condition. I agree that I think this is what the Conditions system is meant to be used for. Nobody loses control over their character (which is why there is a condition associated with offering an alternative). There are incentives for going along with the dice results, and other incentives/disincentives for going with an alternative approach. It's all narrative cooperation.

RE: Critters!
I have NO IDEA how, but this little punk has figured out how to open my kitchen cabinets and drawers and it's practically all she does now. She finds it especially funny to climb into them at 3 AM and startle me awake by knocking shit out of them, and then loudly complain when I try to take her out.
Childproofing! Not just for children!

But no, I will NEVER support teachers having to also make decisions on religious matters.
Yeah, that's not how separation of church and state works.
In this case, given that I'm assuming it's a public school and that these children are going to attempt to exclude this student from more than just their friendship during school hours, yeah. Teachers do, in fact, have an obligation to ensure that the students understand their religious beliefs don't get to dictate what happens at the school, so, kind of the opposite of what you're likely thinking, there.

RE: Emotional bleed
@Pyrephox said in Emotional bleed:
Or, worse, the bleedover that assumes that 'oh, you play a sexist/racist/classist/whatever character, so you must looooove these things as a player'.
I concur with this, but also contend that this goes in the other direction, too, and is almost more problematic for doing so.
Character 1: Says something jerkass.
Character 2: Calls jerkass out for being a jerkass.Player of Character 1: Hey, that's not cool. It hurts my feelings and I want you to stop.
...then maybe work toward that IC? You don't get to excuse what happened based on the fact that it hurts your feelings. And more and more, staffers are siding with Character 1, in these situations, and letting the player get away with things IC because they say they don't like the consequences OOC. There was a game where this recently happened, and before that, an entire conversation about the need for real consequences for IC actions, in which some vocal people here disagreed.
Bleed is happening, and IMO, it's becoming worse. It's also running both ways, and we should really take steps to remember that IC and OOC are distinct things, and what happens in one shouldn't dictate the other in either direction.
Granted, feelings are real, and some things can make people uncomfortable, but you very much need to maintain at least the idea of healthy separation. Otherwise you're gonna get into real weird territory where IC = OOC and that's supremely unhealthy for anyone involved.

@L-B-Heuschkel said in MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't):
I'm sure as heck in no rush to get to hold all the things together to create my own game but if I ever do? I have thought about basing one off the free town of Fredericia, Denmark -- which historically had freedom of religion and asylum for any crime committed anywhere else since 1650. The result was a Wild West-like chaotic border town-feel, with half a dozen religious denominations and factions struggling for survival, hitmen and kidnappers from elsewhere hunting wanted men who in turn dared not step outside the city gates, a large military garrison constantly feuding with local land owners, and a plethora of absolutely over the top personalities and stories -- and it's all very well documented.
Then add, oh, and by the way, the magic of folklore of superstition is real, shake, and bake.
I vote for this.

RE: Dice code
MU dice commands ought to show every individual die's results.
This part I agree with, if for no other reason than I have seen dice code malfunction in weird ways. Having an extra layer of 'make sure all the moving parts are moving correctly' is good, and some systems have special rules based on how the dice come out. If you're going to generate the numbers, there really isn't a reason not to show the numbers generated.
They ought to also allow players to change the colours of their dice so you can do something of a virtual version of flinging a recalcitrant one away and digging out another.
This part I am not with you on. Jesus, players already get wild with eye-searing ansi in names and comtitles and stuff, can you imagine what kind of painful rainbow vomit we'd see if they could change the colors of everything and make other people see that shit too?
Better to just do this in your client.

If you're one of the marginalized, it's okay to be tired and frustrated at being asked to explain your motivations and beliefs for the umpteenth time. There are people who genuinely want to help, who, by way of privilege, known or unknown, may not entirely understand or connect with what you're saying. Being frustrated with meeting an otherwise-intelligent person with this ignorance is reasonable.

If you want me to listen to your thoughts and consider them seriously, you should take some time and respond when you aren't so hysterical. It's impossible to have a logical discussion with you when you are telling me to grow dicks and fuck myself.
For me, this is the entire discussion, right here. These two statements.
At the end of the day, as shitty as this may sound, if you are in a group that you feel deserves equal attention and recognition? The way you get that is by getting the people in the majority (or, you know, the ones with the proverbial boot on your neck, or whatever) on your side, so that they can help to enact the changes you wish to see. Not by pissing them off and asserting you don't need them to understand, or agree. Because that will get you a kneejerk response that is basically the opposite of the goal you are seeking.
More flies with honey. Etc. If someone is trying to help you, accept their help, give them your story calmly and reasonably. You damage no one but yourself when you react with vitriole. It may be reasonable from, like, a philosophical standpoint, but it's not reasonable as far as 'what are the best logical ways to try and enact the changes I want to see, if the problem is me vs. the rest of the world'.

RE: Dice code
Later 2nd ed. patches and 3rd edition prints the dice right there next to the summary. You still get some folks doing a facepalm or whining or whatnot when they roll 15 dice and get no successes, but at least they're (usually) no longer crying foul at the system itself.
I was admittedly a little baffled by the combat system until @Seraphim73 walked me through a combat log.
And now I am gleefully learning how tactical combat in FS3 can be and it's kind of amazing. You can be a hyper-badass sniper and miss a lot. I love it.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
It's been shown that doing more than about 4.5 miles a day (in one go, that is, not spread out) can actually be detrimental to your health.
But honestly, I would work to spread that out over the day. Depending on your stride length and height and such, it's generally considered a good deal to hit between 10 000 and 18,000 steps per day, which is actually considerable mileage, and has many health benefits.
But just increasing your current stuff by about 3,000 steps is usually enough to start getting healthier and avoid cardiovascular disease and such.
I've been tracking food using MyFitnessPal, and I got a Gear Fit 2 to keep track of steps and sleep and such. S health records a lot of useful info. Unfortunately, S Health and MFP (and the Gear) will not talk to each other directly, or it would be so much easier.
ETA: I've been using credit karma a lot more lately. My credit isn't terrible as it is, but I'm a single white guy who has always rented and has no loans outside of student loans, plus I just got my first credit card (even though it pained me to do so, philosophically) so like...it's hanging in that nebulous region of 'nothing bad, but nothing swell'.
