When I was in the US I was told that it's apparently better to write a zero dollar tip receipt and just give your server, or whomever, cash. Due to taxes, or somesuch. Is there any truth to that idea?

This may be happening, but this will lead to cheating the restaurant, not the government of its taxes.

Yeah, or more nefarious or pessimistic, could it truly be that people may be unwilling to pay restaurants more because having control over the tip makes the food cheaper for the diner and gives them more control over the performance of the serving staff?

Here's an alternate view, sort of.

Could it be that dispossessed, entitled diners with a modicum of "self-motivated" success prefer exerting control over others who they see as undeserving of payment for their labor?

Said another way, could people who otherwise have little actual control over their success want to punish people for being inconvenienced or slighted, thus assuaging the "successful" personas they need to bolster their egos?

Said yet another way, could it be possible that people are petty tyrants in their minds and little shits in their behavior?

I see the slow movement from tips to wages at high end places here, but unfortunately in other areas the gig platforms are moving people rapidly the other way.

Around here, we're seeing the shift in the casual fast-food joints, like Noodles & Co.. The most vocal critics of no-tipping seem to come from large cities, where restaurant owners have reversed course. In the latter places, though, tips can lead to higher-than-living-wage paychecks, and, in my opinion, restaurant goers like the ability to smack down "their lessers" because, fuck, why not hold oneself up as progressive while simultaneously holding down the "lazy and indolent"?

I frankly think a lot of the backlash is due to elitist prejudice. From an economic standpoint, there's no good reason to continue tipping as a practice; it is unpredictable, and predictability is the hallmark of a strong business model. There are reasons why fast-food joints are much more successful insofar as growth is concerned.

ETA: That is to say a business' reliance on tips rather than paying an actual living wage.

There is a slow movement in the United States to move away from tips towards a better wage for service workers, but it is exceedingly slow.

Probably not? I don't think homeowners' insurance covers that. It's really just one board though that had a hole in it that I couldn't see because the planter fell apart and dirt was everywhere covering it.

Why did you fall through the board? That's the key inquiry.

Although a homeowner's negligence is usually not covered by the insurance, a defect in the house that causes consequential damage usually is. If you were aware of the hole and simply forgot it was there, you likely are not covered; you caused your own injury. But if the board broke apart without notice or reason, and you feel through, you may be entitled to compensation.

The next question is whether your deductible makes it worth filing a claim. I'm guessing not.

Now that’s living the high life!

Actually, the service at the Golden Corral here is pretty damn good. In fact, there's a lot of places that I frequent which have great service. Of course, I used to work in the service industry, so I may be more forgiving on certain things, and more picky about others (like, WTF, host, why the fuck is my server on the other side of the restaurant, you stupid bint?).

I might be able to afford a larger house if I didn't tip so largely, but I've been there -- I've been there. Take this 40% tip because you showed me a pic of your baby, and she's adorable, sir.

Yep. Just like anyone who says "it's not the money, it's the principle"... it's the money.

      It's not always bad.

      Act I, Scene III

      Client: Should I go forward?
Me: Well, it's going to cost you a whole lot of money, like, $25,000, probably, and you're looking to recover around $1,000. Economically-speaking, it would be extremely unwise to proceed.
Client: I want to sue them and pay you the money. It's not about the money; it's about the principle. Don't fuck with me.
Me: (eyes lighting up) Yes, sir. (stage whisper) Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

I don't care, but then... I'm also fussy as fuck-all and FTB-prone more and more. There are... four people I've written anything like that with in the past four years.

That's about the same rate with me.

As an old fucking person, I am very much in the same boat as you, Mietze, and others that have replied; I'm not interested in the creation of sexual writing, and would rather get to the before and the after. And if that's the case for me, I find it matters very, very little what the RL gender is of whomever I'm RPing with. That said, I have also found that the male PCs I've RPed -- and many female ones too -- lack the sort of depth of feeling and emotion that I try to invest into (most of) my own.

I had a recent scene where my (female) PC was naked in a hot tub in an attempt to tempt another,(female) PC into some fun, sexytimes. The thing is that my PC is so damn oblivious to propriety that her "technique" of "here's my pussy u wanna fuk?" in context was horridly awkward and laughable. And that was the point of the scene. I had the lulz at my PC's expense, and while I'm not sure what the other player thought I hope they were laughing along with me.

I want to say it is that a lot of men play women and especially queer women but someone else made the logical point that if they do it well it typically isn't picked up on as a guy doing it, so I can't be sure that the majority of them are but it feels like it. So it winds up being personality and circumstance that attract my pcs to women.

I wonder if it even matters what the RL gender of the player is. I know that I really don't give a shit, and I hope that people who RP with me sexually also don't care. It's not like, after a good TS session with someone who is of an RL identity that I'm not normally attracted to, I suddenly toss my cookies in the shower and scrub myself clean (edit).

That doesn't follow from what you said, though. If you know someone is going to be leaving soon, and you need to replace them, it makes far more sense to have them train their replacement than taking anyone else away from their own duties.

      I concur.

If he's attractive and can be trained to not,be a douche, you may want to evaluate if he rolled a '1' on his flirtation attempt?

If you saw a girl in a hallway who had dropped her books, do you:

      A. Ask her if she needs assistance;
      B. Ask her if she needs pointers on how to carry books properly; or
      C. Pick up her books for her?

The proper answer is A. Anything else is unacceptable. Cupcake's dickbag pulled a B.
