You could also consult with your local chapter of the NCJW to see if they might have any resources. They'd probably be especially keen if you had an interest in the Women of the Wall or feminism in Israel or the work of the Hand in Hand school.

And I deliberately chose Skipper in my example because of the teenage thing. Then again, Barbie was supposed to be 17 for a couple of decades, so....

RE: Tomorrow is the Deadline....
Weird, as I feel like this would be an even better use of taxpayer funds than all the money currently spent in the guise of preventing voter fraud (which more often than not seems to be coming largely from the ranks of the party so determined to prevent it)...

RE: World (Chronicles?) of Darkness Concepts You Would Enjoy RPing with
They are all OWoD racial types, mostly Changelings.
Redcaps are pure appetite and fury. Pooka are shape-shifting fae. Satyrs are those humans with goat legs from Greek mythology turned into a faerie kith. Most people play them as horny goats, but there is another tack to take, which is that of the intellectual. Nockers are another kith/race of fae who are frustrated perfectionists, loosely based on the mythological Welsh knockers (who were the ghosts of miners) and somehow turned into crotchety Jewish stereotypes by White Wolf.
Mummies are supposed to be refined immortal souls taking up residence in the bodies of slackers, at least in Revised. Most of the ones I have run into on games have been some sort of celebrity, for some reason.

Aww, thanks! That was a nice little confidence booster.

No. Not at all. At least, not that was given any indication in any of the material. Like everything else in the WoD, I think the developers just picked words out of a hat (or had manatees do it with balls in a tank) and put things together with little respect to the actual mythos they could be working with.

RE: Separating Art From Artist
Well, KMFDM worked with the jackass, too. Collaborated in 2017. The only act on that bill that is above reproach, as far as that is concerned, is Front Line Assembly. I just wish they'd make a statement.

RE: RL Sads
I got accused of being the worst racist in all of Evanston, IL because I tried to share a Zinn Foundation post to our school district's FB page, and didn't realize that sharing from the app means that it doesn't copy over the text of the original post, and only shared my snarky commentary and a badly-centered image of a newspaper from 1834.
All I wanted to do was show how even the UK, arguably one of the top three cruelest colonial powers in history still managed to abolish slavery a full thirty-one years before the United States managed to.
Nothing like a steady stream of woke white women flooding your inbox with demands for apologies and 'reflecting upon and fixing the pain (I) caused' and failing to accept that it was a technical error and I had no idea that the text for the post hadn't even transferred over when I did it.
And, yes, I apologized and owned the fact that my snark was egregious and gave them the hairshirt-and-flagellation they demanded...then left the group. And every other local civic group. And the one I was in trying to help promote a less Eurocentric history being taught in the schools. Because it was clear that these women never really respected any of the anti-racist and pro-equity posts I'd been making for the past six years given the way they turned on me on a fucking dime like that. Especially since nobody bothered to ask me if it was a fluke, save for a group moderator. Of course, all the admins and moderators of that page are such because I hand-selected them to ensure that minority voices were being centered and heard, as they were often the ones being shut out of conversations, historically, there, by the old guard of the group.
I get it, though...it makes them all look that much better, and their purely performative anti-racism that much more attention-worthy and shiny. But it still hurt like fuck to experience all this vitriol due to a goddamn technicality. On the upside, my pain and tears led to homemade pie and weed candy to self-medicate the hurt a bit.
Oh...and when the moderator who checked in on me reposted the text of the article in question, all these hypocritical cows loved it.

Here. Have a photo from last year's Dracula's Ball performance in Philadelphia, where I was suddenly both video tech and official band photographer (in spite of being expressly not a photographer):

Harold Budd.
'Ambient' composer.
Collaborated on 'The Moon and the Melodies' with the Cocteau Twins, so a bit of a loss if you're a fan of that sort of sound.

RE: Dead Celebrities 2021 Edition
It was always absolutely criminal and shameful that he was the one who got all the positive media attention (James St. James shamelessly enabled him and profited off of his story, as did the WOW people with the film(s)) and his victim was still being pilloried by other asshole club kids long after the fact.

Not a major celebrity, but he was my friend and neighbor when I lived in Hollywood. Got the gig on 'Friends' because he was a barista at the local posh coffeehouse, Bourgeois Pig, on Franklin. Originally landed in Hollywood for music, not acting. Kept the barista gig for a few years while on the show, too, which is how I met him.

RE: RL Anger
So. My son's school has done a free/super cheap bookstore in it for the past 30-something years, or so. It's a great endeavor, but the lady currently in charge of it is kind of a piece of work - meanly gossipy, cliquish, has not a lick of self-awareness, and doesn't take it well when people don't think exactly as she does, or fall to their knees and worship at the feet of her daughter and her friends. I don't do that. I don't even play favorites when I'm volunteering there and my son's grade comes up to buy/pick out things.
After four months straight of my devoting most of my day there every Friday, this past week (our last official store of the school year), she pulls me aside to tell me that 'parents have called her at home to complain that their kids think I am scary.' No indication of what grade(s) these kids are in; no indication of what it is about me that is 'scary'. When I tried to delve deeper (because, if there is, in fact, a legitimate complaint, of course I will endeavor to mitigate things) all she could say was 'maybe it's your hair'. Because apparently overgrown graying pixie cuts are super frightening these days. No other explanation was offered, she didn't tell me to stop volunteering, nada. It was all very odd, incredibly hurtful, and just some downright mean girls bullshit from a fortysomething. It was also suspect that parents apparently went straight to her, rather than to the school,, and that she couldn't have told me about this at all during the week, but instead waited for me to actually start my shifts?
So, since she couldn't tell me what grades were involved (or, remember, any concrete complaints), and I had signed up to volunteer for the whole day tomorrow for a related event, I un-volunteered for all slots except my son's grade, because all of those teachers and kids know me, and one girl asked me if I was a vampire, but I've known her since she was two, so whatever...they see me every damn day. And I have never gotten so much as a peep about being corporate goth from the administration, or any of the parents in our cohort or other staff, so...yeah. Fuck Debi.

RE: RL Anger
I waltzed in for my shift this afternoon with a new razor-cut/clipped/cropped mess of hair dyed a kind of glorious coppery cherry color. My dad-friend (the only male to regularly volunteer, might I add) turned to me and said 'I see you're here to scare all the kids!' right in front of her and her cronies. It was life-affirming.
She's gone next year, off to Queen Bee the volunteering at the middle school. I shan't miss her.

RE: 2022: A New Year, New Dead Celebrities
She was in the holy grail of dark 90s psychodramas: An Ambush of Ghosts. Never got distro for a variety of reasons. What it did get was an amazing score by In the Nursery. Much like The Nightporter, I can't quite bring myself to watch it.
