When someone starts shit-talking you on channel, and you aren't there to either refute them or clear up any misconceptions, and other people step in and defend you. Especially when that defense comes from people you would never have thought had a positive impression of you.

New players who are not only happy to have help learning the ropes, but are also kind and generous roleplayers enthusiastic about what the game/sphere is all about. Helps make up for all the people who just 'peer' passive-aggressively on channels and make no real effort to reach out.
Fresh blood and perspectives help me get out of my burnout and remind me of why the splat is supposed to be fun.

When you find that handful of players and characters that you and yours click with, and you actually look forward to logging in in order to hang with them; how it reminds you of why you got into this hobby in the first place.

When I went through the same thing, what ultimately gave me the strength to go no contact with my birth mother and most of the assholes from that side of the divorce was when my psychiatrist 'gave me permission' to go on ahead and do it.
It wasn't so much that he permitted me, but that he asked 'what do you owe these people who have given you nothing but pain?' But having the exterior affirmation/confirmation that those people were actually assholes, and my pain was legitimate was empowering.
I give you permission to cut that cruel asshole out of your life. Ignore those interior voices that insist that you owe them anything. My son will never know his maternal grandmother, but that is entirely her own fault, and my stepmother is the best grandmother a kid could hope for, and I consider her my mother at this point.
It's still hard sometimes, and those echoe-y guilty feelings pop up every once in a while, but I am a much mentally healthy a person for having done it, even if I am on a bit of a downturn at the moment.

All things aside, I would really, really like it if players whose PCs get involved romantically with mine would stop using our RP as a means of working out their RL relationship issues and traumas.
Or, at the very least, talk to me OOC about WTF they're going through before pulling all kinds of IC fuckery that leaves me wondering what the actual fuck I'd done to deserve the weirdness and borderline abusive behavior towards my PC.

A couple of friends of mine in the subculture I'm in are going through an extremely rough patch, and I managed to rope in a much more famous person (tm) to assist me in putting together a network of fundraising club nights and such. Another mutual friend is spearheading a compilation CD release. Much More Famous Person put up a GoFundMe, and we've brought in almost $2,000 in a couple of hours. So, hooray, goth-industrial fans are NOT just a bunch of apathetic scenesters!

I also recommend getting the ACLU involved, as well as Tweeting at everyone from MSNBC to NPR to the Guardian to goddamn presidential candidates. Immigration attorneys.

People also forget that beauty is subjective. Ages ago I used a singer whose record company once saddled him with the fake accolade of being voted the most beautiful man in the world, but I still gave him app: 3. I always undercut the stat a bit, because what I find beautiful isn't necessarily going to be what others find beautiful. And I don't find plastic surgery-ed Instagram models with back-breaking bosoms attractive, nor Frazetta-Comes-Alive men with artful stubble. But I get that whomever put the desc together and photoshopped the shit out of their played-by models to further enhance the attributes of these sorts of characters most likely does.
Just don't get mad at me when my aesthetics don't match yours is all I ask.

Max Miller's Tasting History. Has even gotten my son interested in cooking.
Juno Birch killing off Joy Desprets in various versions of The Sims on her eponymous channel. Also will do makeup tutorials.
IMHO: the Show. In My Homosexual Opinion.
It's local Chicago drag queens reviewing the various iterations of Rupaul's Drag Race. Darby Lynn Cartwright, Aunty Chan, and Alexis P Bevels. The Queer Table. Chicago and northern Indiana Queers discussing various things, hosted by The Vixen and DiDa Ritz.
Camp Wannakiki. The Sugarbaker Twins hosting a contest for camp queens that takes place at a summer camp. Superior to Drag Race because everyone is in drag, not just the contestants. No manufactured drama, either.
Joe Lycett's Got Your Back/Joe Lycett. I have the oddest crush on Birmingham's most famous pansexual benevolent troll.
Hey Qween with Jonny Mcgovern. More drag. Was better before Lady RedCoture died this past summer. Still has all the drag queen interviews, but it's lost the spark she brought.
Lastly, it's not a YouTuber, but the archives of BBC's Riverside programme from the early 80s is glorious. Where else are you going to see the vocalist from Sham 69 doing ballet, unironically.

A subtle mage. Someone who understood the ramifications and consequences of being able to manipulate reality.
A profoundly terrible and noble sidhe, whose motivations are completely inscrutable and nigh-alien in nature. A master manipulator, but without veering into cliche.
An intelligent redcap, whose cunning surpasses their ferocity.
A mummy that isn't a celebrity, but more of a joyful sage, who is slow to anger and operates on a very refined and cautious plane, due to the risks of being judged.
An intellectual satyr.
A pooka evangelical/prosperity gospel preacher.
A nocker who says more than 'fuck'.

RE: Good writin'.posted in MU Questions & Requests
Based on my most recent scene, with someone who has apparently been on the game for years, but this was my first time RPing with them:
Read the desc of the room. Read the pose I have written. Respond appropriately to those things, rather than just shotgun your way through a staccato series of:
'Amadeus nods.
Amadeus lets it go.**
Amadeus asks, 'How did you do that?' ***poses that give me absolutely zero information or hooks to respond to.
Don't RP from your phone without informing me that you are planning on doing so. Don't expect me to carry the whole scene for you, providing a paragraph (or so; my pose length can vary) of text for every single bland sentence you give in return. Give me a chance to pose before you shotgun - since I am actually writing, it takes me more than fifteen seconds. Don't cheat on rolls unless pre-determined (by asking) if it's okay that rolling dice is unnecessary for the scene.
** Actual response composed in reaction to seeing a ten dollar bill spontaneously combust on a service counter.
*** Eventually said after said combustion, with no Awareness roll made to determine that my PC had actually used Pyrokinesis.

hedgehog's Playlistposted in A Shout in the Dark
There's a ton of smaller games in here, the likes of which I don't remember either the exact name of, or of whom I played.
The Dreaming - Mathew? Maybe Claus? (nocker)
TwoMoons - Severin, or maybe Sevren (some sort of Sun Villager, I think)
Night and Fog - Mat (nocker)
Mountain Cauldron - David (sidhe, with a mistaken identity flaw)
Darkness Rising - Hedgehog (staff)
Ashes to Ashes - Annika (sidhe; didn't last long)
Dreaming 2 - Laila (I think; I might be conflating this with the A2A character)
Emerald City (or something similar- Dark Emerald?; WoD game) - Pixie (nocker pretending to be a sluagh)
Due Rewards - Trixie (nocker), Aidan (M+)
Fallen Leaves - Daniel (I think. M+)
Darkness Falling - Briefly fae staff. Damned if I can remember my name there, though.
Shadowed Isles - Stefan (? M+), Corra (staff - fae admin)
Metro 2.0 - Christian/Stefan (M+), Ariel (staff - fae admin)
Oathcircle - Balance (M+; didn't last long)
City of Hope/New Prospect - Balance (M+; current, but need to be more inspired to play) and Thoreau (Ghille Du)
People seemed to either really like me or really loathe me. There didn't seem to be much in the middle.

Sure. But the nockers especially peeved me, because it was like 'hey - these guys are actually Welsh (maybe even Cornish) in origin, but we already saturated the splats with fae from the UK and Ireland. How do we rectify it?' 'I know! YIDDISH!'

RE: What does Immersion mean to you in MUs?posted in Game Development
I dunno, @Thenomain ...I find it just as jarring to be in a scene that has already been established as taking place in IC +time, daytime, and having a Vampire come trundling in and expecting things be changed to suit them. Especially on a game where there's a ton of Nightzones they could go and RP in. Or when people decide they have no interest in reading a room @desc or +views and just RP whatever the hell they want, even if it is contrary to what they'd be able to do given those things. Or players that ask that they be allowed to participate in a group +event/scene and don't actually do anything with the group in question; instead choosing to RP with themselves instead, ignoring all that is actually happening.
I guess what I'm saying is: inconsiderate, egotistical showboating ruins the immersion for me.

RE: Meanest (But Funniest) Thing You've Done in a Gameposted in Mildly Constructive
As a chaotic good elven cleric, I would require members of the party donate to my goddess' temple before healing them.
It was slightly less cruel than the fact that she considered herself more of a psychopomp than a healer and would roll for the critically wounded to see if it was their time to die or not.
Point being? Don't take the cleric for granted, assholes.

RE: Game Pitch: Three Letter Agency (modern horror setting - X-Files, Fringe, Control, SCP, etc)posted in Game Development
Borrowing elements from Warehouse 13 wouldn't be amiss. It would also pair nicely with seasons 1-3 of Fringe, and inject a bit of levity into something that could become extremely oppressive rather quickly if people take it far too seriously.
