Rifts or TMNT. Both Palladium games which means people have a strong knee-jerk reaction but I've had fun playing both since the 80s/90s.

I entertained a Rifts game for a few minutes - even conferred with someone who'd run one for a while. It was the thought of having to deal with the vastness of the Rifts universe that would kill me. So many classes, so much data.

TMNT or Robotech would be much easier I think since their rules are contained - or maybe even a gateway into a more robust Palladium system. Who knows, haha. My problem is with level-based systems though. I've never been a fan of MU + levels.

Quest - This is a beautiful game in both content and appearance. I'd love so very much to see it's mechanics used online. I'm not sure how well it would survive MU, but the premise, simplicity, and accessibility are top-notch.

Honestly, I'll take The Jovian Chronicles or Heavy Gear.

Silouhette was pretty good too! For the longest, I had the Shilouette 'generic' game system as well as Heavy Gears and Jovian Chronicles. You're right, that'd totally be fun.

Another system I'd always wanted to try - I was looking at my shelf again, this thread has made me nostalgic. I'm adding a few more to my list:

Scion I love the concept, but I don't think it'd work very well as a MU without some serious modification as much as I love to play TT.

Supernatural/Cortex I've been really tempted to try this one. Especially now. I've also always been curious as to how well Cortex would translate to MU play as well!

Chaosium Basic Roleplaying game Though I've never liked the lack of a link between stats and skills in systems like Chaosium, but the rest of the rules are pretty solid. It'd also take QUITE some time for anyone to 'max out' a character under these rules too.

I loooove Atomic Highway! I've tried to float it here as a MU* a few times over the years... in that extremely lazy way where I just babble about it enthusiastically and hope someone else will do all the work. 🤣

But really, the base systems are super easy to grok, mutations are super fun to roll and strike that sweet spot of unique, amusing and actually useful, and the scavenging and vehicles systems seem like they would flow very well in this format.

I thought the scavaging rules would be hella fun online. It would be interesting tying in the Salvage rules to stronghold upkeep, It'd also be a great reason to get players on-grid and actually exploring. 🙂

I discovered MUs early on in life as many of us did - and it's influenced the kind of TTRPGs I've bought for years, thinking this or that might make an interesting MUs experiment or, they were games that my local group didn't have an interest in/time for.

Sadly, I've never touched a good 90% of them, so I thought I'd list my top few and see what others had sitting in their mental/shelf queue/wishlist!

To me, this is more of a SYSTEMS conversation than setting - but both are welcome! Also, chime in if you'd tried a ruleset and its level of success. Please try to be constructive about it, though! 😄

Atomic Highway/V6 System has been sitting on my shelf for a long time, as one of those games that I'd potentially like to see how it worked out. System and setting. I ❤ a good Mad Max setting. 🙂

Dragon Ball Z RPG/Instant Fuzion. I always thought this system/setting would be amazing for LOLs (and a nice break away from Ansty Games). Plus, I think Online is the only place where you can obtain enough dice for some later powers. Problem: Running out of planets eventually.

Jadeclaw Alas. I don't think I'd ever really been able to handle the crowd it would attract.

Tunnels & Trolls I've always enjoyed how simple MOST of the rules are for this game. Originally made as a solo RPG, I've always thought this would make a good hybrid game or an L&L that needed a quick, GMless combat system.

Mekton Zeta/MTS Because we all need more giant robots in our lives. Though this one, I think is just a matter of time for me. I have a hankering for some Mecha based Space Opera in my life. ❤

Opposite Grand space mecha adventure - the other game I'll probably never get to is Warhammer Fantasy. Oh wow was that fun to play. I'd love to see how well it translates to persistent, online play. Spoiler: You die or become a chaos beast - but it's the journey there that counts. 😄

@SparklesTheClown OOooooooh, don't tell me that. Because I found all of my books this last week while working with Cyberpunk Red.

I was totally thinking that I could use the cinematic system rules from the tactical display, and Zeta + for mecha creation and allow for full-on squad battles.

@Runescryer I've been watching! There's a whole lot of Gundam streaming out there right now!

I have a good portion of the Interlock system written in Evennia now, too. This thread is dangerous. 🙂

Doing all of this work with R. Talsorian's Interlock system - I'd love to do a game based on Gundam, or Macross using Mekton Zeta. preferably Macross, but I just don't think there's the audience out there for the series anymore. >.<

@krmbm I misread your question! My bad! Thank you.:) Yeah, I'd love to make data from the external MySQL available through HTTP service as well, for rich web interaction ala Ares!

@krmbm Persistance is a goal, absolutely. It's not difficult to eventually hook in. In fact, I've been coding so that I can just drop in my external DB needs later. Ideally.
I'd want to be able to start in my terminal and switch to a responsive web-client that works from my phone persistently, so my consumption is as uninterrupted as possible. Evennia would definitely be faster to get to that point, of course, being more of a green-field project that I can control from end-to-end.

As far as polished? I started less than a month ago! I'm not even done thinking further than my current rapid prototype - Hey, check out this trick, phase. 😄 I wouldn't call my code a mess, but I certainly wouldn't give it to anyone and expect them to put it in production for end-users. I still need to document, refactor some things... finish it, etc, etc It's coming along though!

Ares is definitely an inspiration for ease of access, and immersion via a strong web presence. I'd love to reach that level of polish - it just takes time.

I don't have a list of features or needs or even wants at the moment, honestly. I've been doing /all/ backend dev work for the day-gig recently and wanted something to sink my design/frontend dev teeth into. I quite literally just rediscovered Pueblo for myself (It's been 20+ years!). attempted a thing out of nostalgia, and it's working so far! Will any games come out of it? Maybe? I'm much better at dev than I am administration TBH.

@Coin I talked to him recently about making a frontend for his code or working with him to create a frontend. He's pretty done with MUX too. It's just fallen behind, which is unfortunate.

I could move forward with the CoFD thing, with a big warning label about the HTML flag? Because unfortunate things (TM) could happen. I pride that I've had very little major spotlight drama in 30 years of doing this. I'd hate to be known as the guy who opened up a huge MUX security hole. 😄

    • RE: MUX web portal experiments. :3

@Coin I know! But as I started to dig in I started to see the possible issues! Like, if someone had their flag access set wrong (or even I could be wrong for that matter!) they could set their users up for serious annoyance and subjected to horrible potential security holes. That, and maintainability. If something goes awry with MUX, I don't have the confidence to fix it myself - and the future of MUX is uncertain. I know Brazil has made a commit recently, but how long until the next? Python in contrast is a piece of cake for me, and worthy of non-work time, fun coding. 🙂

I had also started sketching out how I'd accent Theno's CoFD system with an HTML friendly interface too! >.<.

@golgoth Thank you, and me too! I figured with Cyberpunk 2077 coming out (eventually) and the release of Cyberpunk Red, that just maybe there might be a little spike in interest around the genre.

      Updates!

I sort of hit the end of what I could do with a MUX/Pueblo combination. It was fun, but I honestly didn't want to invest too much infrastructure into a fading codebase. 😞 Evennia's frontend seems pretty robust, so I've started hacking away!

Now I just have to decide between Cyberpunk Red, and The Sprawl for the system I want to move forward with. Both are amazing, but having an interlock chargen coded means being able to play around with something more interesting like Mekton later... :3

I haven't seriously made a game in a while. A real long while. I'm starting to get that itch to play again (as we all do) and I've been dreaming of that high tech, low life. Is it going to be an actual place? Maybe? I hadn't considered anyone being interested tbh. This is more of a tech experiment gone cyberpunk fever-dream.

Here are a few more screens I have designed out so far. 1990's Cyberpunk inspired. The game is using 2020 for its rule base for development - probably moving to Cyberpunk Red when (if) it releases in November. All of these are lipsumed by the way. Still working out the game's voice. 🙂 Not an advertisement, but you'll be seeing a lot of design coming as I work through the Pueblo stuff. Hopefully, after I figure out what I want to do, I can package what I've done so others can benefit too. This old dog has a few new tricks yet!

@Coin Thanks! 🙂 I was really reluctant to put the effort in since MUX is getting pretty long toothed. But, I saw that Brazil had released a patch within the last few months. Good enough for me.

I've plans to do this with Rhost as well. That'll be a bit more involved though - and WAY more server customization.
