      @LWhiskey

A naval rank of Captain is equivalent to the army rank of Colonel. An army Captain is the equivalent to a naval rank of Commander. It's because of how the titles developed over history. The US Armed Services avoid confusions between forces by just referring to the rank number O-1, O-2, etc.

It has some rough moments owing to the poor transition from novel to film, but it is easily in my top 20.

I mostly remember the weird coded bits.

      • If you drank too much, you could get teleported to a random room on the grid.

      • ritual/eesha <target> - Sex code

      • ritual/threesha <target> <target> - Joke code for a threesome that didn't actually do anything except return some sort of joke response.

      • amiavirgin - Told you if your character was a virgin or not

      • amiavirgin/ooc - Joke code that would respond with some joke answer that implied that, yes, you are a sad, pathetic, virgin loser. Lol.

      • Food, EP (energy points), and ERP (energy reserve points).

      • Being able to poison said food.

      • Stealthing into rooms and hiding once in them.

      • Calling witnesses.

      • Coded hair growth and haircuts.

      • Coded hygiene and bathing.

      • The rooftop code was pretty awesome.

I wanna say there was a coded poker game, and there was the simple Risk style game that was coded. Clan Wars I think it was called.

I forgot about the character tiers. I rather liked that possibilities opened up by that design element, even if the implementation left a lot to be desired.

How has this one not come up yet as a classic?

      Paranoia Agent
Trigger warnings on this one. Dark, surreal, and, I feel, becoming a more and more accurate representation of the world we live in. It starts as a mystery, moves into psychological thriller, then becomes a supernatural metaphor for modern society and escapism. It has a decent sized cast with interesting characters, a nice mystery, good animation, and a good pay-off at the end. Oh, and it was created by the late Satoshi Kon, who also directed Tokyo Godfathers and Paprika.

It starts off simple enough. The main character is attacked by a boy with roller skates and a golden bat. Soon other people are also getting attacked by this hoodlum. However, he only seems to attack people that are under a lot of pressure and can't cope.

Is the fast pace of society getting a little too fast for you? Are the pressures of living overwhelming you? Is the 24-hour Newscycle driving you mad? Is the other side on the political spectrum making you hate humanity? Are your personal failings weighing you down?

Do you just need to escape?

      Lil Slugger wants to help.

People would get money and resources from the plots of land that they owned, but that was it. I don't think there was ever a plan to code military units and such.

Is that a danger to the firefighters, or just a waste of a drone?

If someone is flying a helicopter over an area monitoring the spread or maybe airlifting equipment, firefighters, or water to a hard reach area, they really don't want to have to also worry about colliding midair with a drone flown by Idiot Human Being #6,578,200,635 trying to fucking rubberneck.

Oh, there was D-space. I think that was what it was called. The entirety of the the continent used to be on the grid, including all of the cities and the countryside in between, from what I was told. Then they turned that off and kept only the main city on grid. Though, you could access other cities with permission, as they kept those gridded rooms around.

    • RE: Good Anime

Double post to espouse the merits of Odd Taxi. It's a good mystery and the climax has a good pay-off, while also leaving things on a bit of a cliffhanger. It can be somewhat predictable if you're astute. For instance, I predicted ***Spoiler***

      click to show

the protagonist's illness, the actual murderer, and who was hiding in the closet,

but it was still satisfying watching it all unravel. A Youtube anime reviewer compared it to a Tarantino film in how it uses dialogue, and I can sort of see that.

      Anyways, good anime. I recommend.

Fae L&L with the fae being similar to the ones from Changeling. The politicking and infighting is all over names and titles. No one murdering anyone else and their players getting butthurt over it. More "Argh! You duped me and stole the title 'The Red Lord' from me. Curse you!"

A fantasy survival MU* with the feel of Gothic 1 and Avernus. PCs are a bunch of criminals and other undesirables exiled to fantasy Australia and have to make a go of surviving and creating society from nothing.

Generational tribal MU*. A bit of the above fantasy survival idea only it's based around a tribal society in a fantasy world and its trials and tribulations over generations.

      Watermelon is fucking gross.

And most people don’t season or prepare their chicken well before frying, so it ends up tasting bland and too oily.

You opinion doesn't count, Great Leader. We already know that you're a glorious catbot attorney rather than a feeble human being stricken with our insatiable and undeniable love of fried chicken and watermelons.

Or do you want someone who makes obsessively sure that all things are on calendars and filed the way they should be just because he can't remember if he did that one yet and even though it's crossed off the post-it I don't trust the post-it?

9 times out of 10, it's that one that they want.

I am definitely detail oriented, until I am not. If it's something I am researching, incredibly detail oriented as I delve into every minutiae. If it's updating a spreadsheet entry for the tenth time after making a phone call to someone, making sure to refile I file I pulled, or some other tedious bullshit thing, not detail oriented at all.

    • RE: Pondering, Space Trucking, One ship crew small MU?

      @lotherio

Another possibility is to borrow a bit from the Battletech universe. Jumpships are rare, specialized craft that don't venture away from the jump points in a system. Instead, smaller ships that do the trading and transportation dock with it and jump to the next system. Those smaller ships then undock and head out into the system to do their thing, while the jumpship recharges its batteries. At a set time, you better be back to the jumpship, because it's moving on with or without you and you'll have to catch a ride with the next jumpship that comes through.

With this you get a central hub that everyone congregates at - the jumpship. you have space truckin' as the little ships haul stuff around a system. You don't have too much sprawl to worry about, because the activities are contained in one system. Finally, you have the opportunity for Bob and alice to go do their own things.

Not necessarily. A lot of these ninnies work around livestock, so they are familiar with ivermectin. They just have never injected a horse's dose into themselves before now.

Also, this just shows why those One Weird Trick ads lasted so long. There's a market for that idea.

it would get around the problem of everyone having to agree on a pre-determined outcome (ironically) and just have matches

I don't know; I thought that was the beauty of the idea. "What do you mean it's planned out ahead of time?" Just have the two players roll d6s before the match. Whoever wins the roll wins the upcoming match, and they just freeform the fight back and forth with the loser understanding that they need to accept defeat at some point during the fight.

If you kind of want to make it fair, every time a character takes a L, they get a consolation chip. You can turn in consolation chips to up your die roll result at a 1-to-1 rate. The other player can also use their chips, so you can get a bidding war. Whoever wins the bid loses the bidded chips and the loser keeps their chips for another day and gets to add one since they now have to take another loss.

I'd totally be down for a Mortal Kombat or Pro Wrestling MU.

I once made an Infinite Worlds character that came from an Earth that achieved World Peace(TM) by having leaders fight duels over their grievances. This eventually evolved into all levels of government embracing the squared circle to settle differences. Everything from HOAs to International Politics were dealt with by steroidal champions looking for the pin. Each region was a circuit of wrestlers pummeling each other in a sort of feudal society where if you wanted into the ruling class, you just had to eat some vitamins, do some pushups and come up with a gimmick.

This might make for a fun mush.

I've suggested to friends when we discuss this sort of stuff that, should a one-world government form and manage to maintain a monopoly on military power, all the states should settle their differences through sports matches. Why have a World War when you could have a World Cup?
