@Xetetic said in If you work hard, son, maybe someday you'll RP:

What can I, as a new member of a MU*, do to demonstrate interest in wanting to "fit in" and play with the rest of the group? Because it's getting to the point where I think I might be better at running MU*s than playing them (thanks to my DMing experience in TTRPGs with friends). Should I just do that instead?

I mean, if you're actually that good at running stuff, and you don't mind the monetary and time outlay (i.e. having no life) of running a server, absolutely! More games are more better!

As for getting involved in RP in Arx, are you having trouble at finding anything, because that's a bit hard to believe? I've had a large BarP scene every night this week that resulted from a bunch of people out on the public grid just showing up. If it's the deeper story that you're looking for, what families and organizations are you in?

Have you ever tried making it the authentic way, with prosciutto* and whatever the hell else goes in it? I hear it's not really worth the expenditure or effort for the result.

*EDIT: Guanciale. Whatever it's actually called.

Nope. I use the standard recipe, except that I use bacon instead. Louisville didn't really have much a demand for guanciale, so stores didn't really stock it, and I haven't looked here in Cali for it, when bacon does just fine.

@ominous That's about the same distance I am give or take. I wonder if you are in the south like me...?

The solution is easy then. Buffy the Supernatural X-Com-Files: Men in Black and Delta Green. You got your group of government agents/militia demon hunters/vigiliante researchers/whatever that are played by the PCs in <insert metropolis big enough for interesting things to happen here> and aside from their BaRP and small cases in said metropolis, they head out on missions to other parts of the country/world to investigate and shoot demons/ghost/witches/Cthulhu. The PC group can even have fae/aliens/demons/angels/elves/vampires that have decided to work for the "good guys" so you let people have their exotic player races.

My 2003 Chevrolet Impala used to do that back in 06-07. I would go to start it up and get nothing. I would call AAA and a guy would come by. He wouldn't have to do anything. We would pop the hood and I would try to start the car, and without doing anything else it would start just fine. I went through this rigmarole three times, before on the fourth time, the guy just showed up, we didn't pop the hood, and he waved his arms over the car pretending to incant some spell, and of course it worked just fine.

After the fourth go 'round, it never gave me problems again. I have no fucking clue what was wrong and what fixed it, other than to say it was possessed by a really dumb demon and the dude exorcised it with his incantation.

Yep, that's exactly the time frame I was in college there. The bookstore doesn't sound familiar but the coffee shop does, and I too can't quite remember where it was.

I need more pupper photos. My landlord does not allow pets, so I must live vicariously through you to get my pupper fix.

...You made me download Flash. I shall never forgive you.

The options seem much more oriented to female characters. Also, I can't figure out how to save an image.

It only took 1.5 hours for a zoning change? Damn. Here that's dozens of hours of prep time with a Planner and a public hearing or two. Then it's probably going to get appealed by one of the neighbors, so more hearings.

Yes, you can, but a lot of the options are still feminine, which is fine. A tool oriented more towards female characters is great, considering how much focus men get.

@ganymede In another thread @Cobaltasaurus said she was coughing up blood and worse, so the focus is on getting better before focusing on puppers.

We should collect the camera data from all stores, determine who the repeat shopping cart offenders are, and begin the purge.

Perhaps it is the lack of a routine? Without a structure to the day, one cannot become complacent enough to go on autopilot, allowing their brain to focus on RPing?

@darren said in Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.:

@macha Here where I live, the vacancy rate for rentals (this includes single family homes as well, not just apartments) is 31%. Rather than lower rents, they just raise the cost for existing tenants. It makes no sense whatsoever.

After living in Santa Barbara for a while, I'm leaning towards implementing rather stringent vacancy taxes/fines on both residential and commercial properties. If someone is not living in a residence or a business is not operating in a commercial space for at least 8 months out of the year, the property owner is fined at double the current market rate of the space with half of the fine going to the general fund and the other half divvied up amongst homeless shelters in the area.
