So, to out myself as a complete nerd:

I got started with Champions in the 80's -- Mutants and Masterminds, to me, seems like a speedy and streamlined(simple) combat resolution system, perfect for online use. Of the recent supers games I played on, those that used the system had pretty great playerbases, and there was that edge of spice you get when you cannot utterly predict an outcome(and usually no narrative arguments).

Additionally, I ran a lot of scenes. The biggest slowdown was never the mechanics of the system; it was, of course, pose lag or slow player response. +rolls and interpretation thereof didn't take long at all by comparison.

That said, I have been looking at a couple other systems. I know that the M&M system has had several MU iterations and has been coded numerous times, and that the other systems if I use them might need some developing from scratch. If there's usable M&M code out there, that makes life a lot easier.

As for actual setup, I'm looking at a couple hosting solutions. If anyone has advice there, I'll happily take it. I figure I'd grab a yearly package and stand it up, then look for assistance with tool code depending on which codebase I go with(again, advice taken).

..and then I'll talk about my other OC supers MU idea. >.>

      Use Ares.

I mean, honestly, you just---you can't go wrong with it. I don't know if M&M is coded for Ares yet or not, but it's worth it. Just the scene system alone is worth it.

I personally prefer something less crunchy than M&M. In fact, for superhero games, i tend to prefer something more freeform and narrative-focused. But that's your call.

I second this. @faraday is amazing at supporting games that use the platform, and I bet you could get help making a plugin for whichever system you go with. There's enough people interested that at least one of them should have the skills!

I'm definitely not a coder, but I'm pretttttyyyyy good at writing things up and could totally help with lore/help files, setting up wikis, etc.

Imagine a space game on Arx code.

      o.o

Honestly, the Arx codebase wouldn't be ideal for it. We don't handle ranged combat terribly well in the combat system at present, and space/SF combat usually is based around ranged attacks. Plus, there's no spaceflight code, and nothing you could repurpose as spaceflight code. So for true hard SF, you'd almost do better to just start coding a new codebase atop Evennia, or write a space plugin for Ares. (Because frankly, Ares' scene system is amazing, to a degree I want to write an equivalent for Evennia someday.)

That said, there was an SF campaign I wanted to run, where the players would be colonists who discover ancient alien ruins on the planet they've settled. And that you could do with Arx's codebase; the magic and exploration systems could be repurposed for exploring alien ruins and learning how to use alien tech, avoiding security systems and hostile local life. And the clue/revelation system could be used for uncovering more and more of the alien Precursor culture's history and secrets.

But "I fly around in space and shoot things pew pew" vs "science fiction Indiana Jones [cue triumphant adventure music]" (or throw in a hostile force that wants to control whatever ancient tech is found in the ruins and has thus seized the colony and go full Tomb Raider reboot, where you want to find and repurpose the alien tech to free your friends and family still stuck in the now-occupied colony) are very different things.

(Dang it. Now I want to run space Indiana Jones.)

I want a little bit of Indiana Jones in every game I play, tbh. I like discovering exploring. I like doin' stupid shit for either great rewards or death. >.> I guess it helps, too, that SPACE SHIP BATTLES aren't that high on my priority list. Not in a 'my character is manning a battle station' way, anyway.

If you give me a fog-of-war'd map, and tell me there's cool shit to find, I will play that game forever.

@Atomic I was She-Hulk on the original Crucible City, we were an all OC superhero game that used M&M. I've been looking for an all OC superhero game for forever. 😃 I'm not a huge fan of superhero school setting style games, I'd prefer more of a big city or whole planet setting with your friendly neighborhood supers etc, but I'd still be happy with this given the OC superhero goodness.

I used to play on a mutant game on IRC, where instead of -just- a school, it was basically a whole city block structure that supportant mutants of all ages. It held apartments, ye ol' dinner, probably a school?

It would allllllllso be hilarious (if sticking with the school-specific-setting) to offer night classes for adult education. Open it up to some older characters without restricting them to teachers/staff at the school.

A Sunrunner game is a really interesting idea, but I'd have to go back and re-read the source novels...it's been...30 years? since I read the first trilogy.

      Changeling. CHANGELING. Changeling. Changeling.

I would LOVE a game with changeling. A solo changeling game, or just CtL offered in any of the current WoD games, I don't really care. Changeling is my jam, though.

I would also love a fresh D&D game.

Gold's melting point is at about 1,943 degrees Fahrenheit (1064 °C)

Most types of wood will start combusting at about 300 degrees Celsius. The gases burn and increase the temperature of the wood to about 600 degrees Celsius (1,112 degrees Fahrenheit)

I want a CtL game so bad. Big city, with all it entails. Maybe somewhere like Vancouver, where there's a bunch of diverse nature and probably a pretty crazy hedge.

I want to get to tame some Hedge, build a hollow (or a palace?) from the ground up. I want to fight Briar hounds and dragons, and find deep sea artifacts.

I'm with @skew . I want a mix of humdrum and fantasy. The contrast between Hedge and trying to blend in is a big draw.

So I've revised my concept somewhat; I'm going to do the vet, but she'll be working for the National Park to help with the wildlife. Which doesn't mean people can't come to her for their birdies and doggos and kitties (or goats or horses etc.). She is also has more than a passing interest in cryptozoology so you know, anyone interested in going on adventures to observe or join expeditions to explore for the purpose of learning about/discovering new magical creatures, she's your huckleberry.

Edited to Add: Yes, I know vets generally specialize, but for the purposes of RP hooks I'm snapping my reality suspenders and allotting her a more broad scope of practice.

A park ranger vet doubling down on small town pets/ranch animals seems realllllllly plausible! Also, I love the idea.

I'm gonna app in a painter/sketcher who will basically be trying to make fieldguides for all the strange animals and stuff, so yes. Adventure Time is a go.

My crotchety fellow will have been born in the town a long time ago, but had been a little over ambitious and decided to whisk away to city-life for better opportunities. Unfortunately he'd struck out one too many times and after two decades away from the home turf, there's nowhere else he's got to go. He doesn't know many of these younger faces around and he's pretty behind on the times.

Will probably enjoy digging in a musty used bookstore, give side-eye to the youths on instagram and take his coffee black. Also still uses a flip phone.

I'm playing a fresh-out-of-medical-school doctor who's just moved back from California; she's been having these dreams that she chalked up to homesickness...

So if anyone is the right age and wants to have been early-childhood friends (from before Summer's dad moved them away when she was eight), I'm open to connections!

I'm planning on a local that moved away to New York for Art School (where she met @Sab ), and then moved home again. I'm down for the all the connections! She'd probably be 24ish?

@everyone else... I'm fixing to play a cafe/community art store owner. Be more than happy for any connections people want. See you all on Wednesday!

I had thoughts of playing an artist!

It looks like artist is a popular concept!

I'm still tweaking a bit, but I've settled on an art therapy college drop out. Some of the magic seems like it could facilitate some really fucking cool RP if I can get it playing out as I want it to. He probably won't end up as the traditional artsy type, though, so hopefully it doesn't step on anyone else's concept.

I just gotta find a PB at this point, which I'm learning I'm terrible at, so if anyone is interested in talking concept shop/cooking up some connections lemme know!

I'm always interested in connections with you.
