I don't buy that $60 per person isn't enough for a second. Especially not when companies set unrealistic expectations for the money they claim they need to earn. They're not happy earning money, they want to earn ALL the money and anything short of that is called a failure.

@bored Well for Jean I'd say the first thing that comes to mind for most people is "she keeps dying and coming back" which I'm told is a source of frustration for a lot of Jean players. But that aside, I think its not that hard to address the issue.

Have people app what's fits the cut off/era. If someone really wants say 'super strong and flying' Rogue, they could always work towards that by running a plot or something to have Rogue get that.

Anyway, that's just kind of the point I'm trying to demonstrate. Do you actually research issue numbers and stat these characters out 'correctly' per this continuity they want to do? And if not, and people can just app what they want, how is it a continuity game any more than UH on an island?

I know, I was just trying to offer a theory or explanation on why people seem to always go for that one version of Rogue. That it wasn't so much about power as that being the most well known one.

Resetting characters like that likely wouldn't be viable at all in that kind of setting. Its just making another Year One game but forcing all the PCs to be Year One in a Year Five (or whatever) world.

And while there are people out there just in it for the power levels, it usually comes more down to people apping the version that they know most. I'd argue that 'super strong, flight, and power absorbing' is what comes to mind as Rogue's default powerset to most people more than just 'power absorb'. Same with Jean, most people are going to think Phoenix more than plain Marvel Girl for her.

Wouldn't staff having to sit down and talk to players about characters they want to app take longer than just filling out an application and slow down people getting to play?

@bobotron Heck, she'd dead at start then her coming back could be a mini-plot of some kind. Have her come back at non-Phoenix levels.

Okay, another question!
Would characters like members of the Exiles be allowed? And if so, would their 'main' universe counterparts be allowed at the same time? Like Beast and Dark Beast? And how about characters like the time displaced original 5?

Edit: Though in all seriousness, what's boring to one can be the most exciting to another. And really its all about what you do and how you do it when it comes to 'boring'.

@ghost What I meant more was that while they might have an X-gene (something the comics really should clarify sometime), they've never actually be associated with the X-sphere. They're like Justice/Vance Astrovik. He's a mutant but never has been associated with the X-men. And while Beast has been on other teams, he's always primarily been known for the X-men. Same as Wolverine.

@ghost As good a reason as that is for Wiccan and Speed, like I said they're Avengers. And if you want to say family, why allow Billy but ban his fiance who's arguably way more of an important relation than Quicksilver or Wanda? Besides, neither of them have been revealed as mutants yet. They're both still in that undefined category, even more since Marvel decided Wanda and Pietro weren't mutants anymore.

@prototart I'd stretch it a little farther an just do away with Hope and her entire 'Five Lights' deal.

There's a couple characters I'd definitely knock off that list for an X-focused game. Namely Speed and Wiccan (They're more Avengers tied any X) and Speedball (Not tied to any X-men stuff and not a mutant)

And another question I have:
Would you make your limiter "Mutants Only" or "X-men Sphere Only"?
Open things to non-mutants that have been members of the X-men (like Deadpool, Hepzibah, etc) and restrict non-X-men related mutants like Justice and Squirrel Girl?

There's always adapting the events of the Children's Crusade crossover to undo No More Mutants. Just a little tweak to say Scarlet Witch undid the spell wide-scale instead of just on Rictor.

And I'd really have to say a non-system/non-dice game would work a lot better.

Just a suggestion but how about a 'temporary no second FC' type of policy? If people really want a second character so badly right out of the gate, make them create an OC if they already have an FC.

I ordered something online recently and requested that the package be left at the back door where there's a weather-proof box specifically for packages. Where did FedEx leave the package instead? On my front lawn. In the middle of a thunderstorm. And it was two days later than they said it would arrive.

This annoys me incredibly.
